Author Topic: In need of CreateSpace book pricing advice (RE: GBP & Euros)  (Read 6159 times)

Hello Everyone. I'm Sam. I have a question for those of you residing in countries that use GBP or Euros as a currency.

I'm looking to publish a New Adult Fiction book through Amazon. I've figured out a decent price for the Kindle book, but am not sure on pricing for the paperback copy (available through Amazon's CreateSpace site). The book is 360 pages of actual story plus a Title Page and Copyright Page, so technically it's 362 pages. I'm publishing it in a 8" by 11" trim size with black and white interior on cream paper. The cover is in color. Since this is the first book I've ever published (self-published or otherwise), I want to set a reasonable price for readers willing to try an unknown author. So...

How much would be a fair amount in GBP and Euros?

I can provide more information if it would help you formulate an answer. Thank you in advance for your help.  :-*

I live in France.

The price will depend upon the format, but there are other criterias :
- is it novel-like or documentary-like ?
- is it written in normal font (pocketbook style) or bigger one ?

Do you already have made one ? If so, could we get a picture ? It might help...

It's definitely a novel. It's fictional and has chapters and such. Is that what you meant?

In regards to font, it's standard 12 point in Word. I don't know how much that will change in the upload process...

I don't have a physical copy of the book, but, come to think of it, I should produce one and buy it myself to see what it's like in-hand. Let me get back to you on that.  :)

My sister has a publisher but you might want to compare the price of her book Jabin and the Space Pirates on the US site and on the British site.  It will give you a ball park for new authors who are unknowns.

The short summary is: Ninteen-year-old Annaleigh is a former elite gymnast dying of Fredreich's Ataxia who must choose between the love of a lifetime and her soulmate for eternity when she falls for an Archangel and his still-mortal sister.

I have an appointment now, so I'll come back and post a more detailed summary in about an hour.  I'll also post the first section in the "Advertise Your Book" forum, so y'all can check that out.

CreateSpace gives you an option to order a proof copy at a discounted price so you can "proof" it before making it readily available for purchase to customers. Also, if you set a price and then discover that it's not selling as well as you would like they allow you to go in and make changes at any time although there will be a small waiting period while they adjust the price, etc. As a tip, you should be sure to use vibrant colors on your print copy as the printers tend to darken the color slightly - and I've found that cream paper is easier on the eyes than white. Hope that helps and good luck with your novel!

Hi, I'm British. For an unknown author, you are best sticking to something like 99p to attract readers and gain reviews. Everyone loves a bargain. And then raise it when you have load of reviews to £2-£5. That sort of price is fair.
