Bared to you by Sylvia Day
« on: April 28, 2012, 07:52 AM »
Name of the book:Bared to you.

Genre:Adult, romance

Book publish year :April 2012.

Rating (out of 5):5

Brief intro:From Amazon
Our journey began in fire...

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness--beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily...

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each others most private wounds... and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

My review:
love this book from the beginning to the end and I honestly think this book, the writing, the hero and heroine work better together than the ones in fifty shades of grey which I could barely get through and there should be no comparisons at all. Eva was very spunky and speaks her mind, I wish that Gideon's issues are address in book 1 but it in no ways deter from the book. I did not want this book to end and now I cannot wait for bk2.

I love this series, and I can't wait for the next book! I read all 400 or so pages in one day. I just consumed it.  I think it's much better than Fifty Shades, while still giving that same element that people loved about that series. I definitely think if you like FS, you'll like this series. The heroine is far less grating. Eva is very fleshed out and sassy...and she's layered due to an elaborate and tragic backstory. The hero also has his own issues that have left him a little warped and possessive...but not in an overbearing way. I find Gideon much easier to sympathize with than Christian -- possibly because it seems like outside of his sleep he doesn't have the need to 'hurt' anyone in order to bite back on his anger. He just likes control.

It was super frustrating that very little was given away about his past in this book-- but an effective tool to keep people drooling for the next book though!

I know I wish we had Gideon's backstory in BK 1 but that is going to make BK 2 more interesting. I stayed up late to finish it too I just had to get to the end. I barely finish BK 3 of Fifty, I can't even remember what's it's about.

I just started reading it today. Timely as I can compare it to Fifty which I read last week. So your reply is timely. Amazing how after reading Fifty, most of those gals I know were looking for another Christian. Looking forward to see how the story pans out.

Thanks Linda.

You will love it. I think it's better written and better character development than Fifty IMO. Let me know what you think.

I too read the book in one day.  Definitely enjoyed it.  I hate the comparisons with Fifty Shades, but I can't fault them.  Although they're supposed to be similar due to the same themes (bdsm, child abuse, etc.) I have to say, I think Bared To You was much better in that respect.  I do believe that's partly due to the fact that Eva and Gideon are more compatible than Christian and Anna, imo.  I think they understand each other better, and it doesn't seem like a sacrifice to love Gideon as it did for Anna.  While both relationships struggled, when looking at the details in both of them, I think Eva and Gideon were better.

While they're both pretty smutty, I found their BDSM elements sort of tame.  Fifty Shades more so than Bared to You, but I read A Good Student by Elliott Mabeuse, and that did have some of the cringe-worthy moments I expected to read in these two.

I give this book a fair 2 out of 5 possible STP stars. Full disclosure: I've not read Fifty Shades of Grey, only MOTU I & II back in 2010 and 2011 when they were on Twilighted and Ice Queen's website. I wasn't a fan of that series and don't believe it is a proper representation of the modern BDSM relationship. I know this book is only the first in FSoG duplicates as this subgenre sells quite a bit. However, the basic storyline is hardly original for both series, but Day still did little to make this her own unique story. I actually found this book to be a bit of a Twilight draft in terms of characters and background storyline, like having the cop dad who lives on the west coast.

Some thoughts on Bared to You:
• I was pleased to see the inclusion of minority and gay/bisexual characters in a modern romance novel. Too often I read about these characters in big cities and urban areas without meeting one person of color or non-hetero. While Day's characterizations aren't perfect, I found the boyfriend of Eva's boss to be a walking stereotype, it is a step in the right direction.

• I do like that Eva has her own job, money, and life without Gideon from the start of the book. She has personal problems, but she has a good network of people to lean on and doesn't need Gideon to complete her life. It would suck if he left, but she could keep it moving and be fine eventually.

• I didn't think the sex was that hot or risque, but I thought the same about MOTU. I think people were just shocked that such activities like being tied up or using food items could be found in a popular novel. Because let me tell you, THAT kind of stuff is pretty vanilla. I mean, their first time in the limo ride was alright, but I was creeped out by Gideon continuing to grind into Eva when his freaking brother walked in. Voyeurism isn't cute when both parties don't consent and she couldn't exactly disconnect as she had no undies at the time. And, I actually found the Gideon's "lol btw, I'm a dom" kinda sudden. As if Day remembered this was supposed to be a BDSM novel 2/3rds into the story.

• Okay, now to the nitty gritty. Gideon is no way, shape, or form needs to be in a relationship right now. He attempted to NOT ALLOWED rape Eva, a former victim of long term sexual abuse, in his sleep!!!111 Could you imagine Eva was your friend and told you she wanted to continue a physical relationship with him? I would scream. Level red trigger zone for Eva and she thinks therapy will fix it. Therapy is great, but you can only change so much and this sounds like a deep psychological disorder that is causing him to want to hurt his own rapist during these nightmares. I would tell her to run, not walk away from this relationship.

• Also, they are moving so so fast. I think the time span is less than a month during the first novel? I get it, the sex is amazing. Snaps to that and whatnot. But, right now they are "in lust" and that is causing them to make really stupid decision. They both have such troubling pasts that I don't think a new couple featuring two people who have been sodomized should jump into NOT ALLOWED sex. I know they want to be a normal couple, but up until he started seeing Eva he was taking women to hotel rooms exclusively for sex. He even took his longtime girlfriend/fiancee solely to hotel rooms. That is messy. Not to mention the fact that he hasn't come clean about his own victimized past or troubles with his family. His brother seems Ted Bundy dangerous, so full disclosure is probably best at this point.

• I found Gideon to be bland. Even his Ian Somerhalder physical description did nothing for me. I need a sense of humor or  interesting hobby or something, or he just comes off as a Edward Cullen/Christian Grey clone. He's your typical rich, controlling, socially inept chode who happens to be great in the sack. Next.

• Can we talk about Eva's roommate? Um... can he not have an orgy in their nice living room. Take that silliness to your own bedroom and I pray they have soundproof walls in that apartment.

• So what I'm expecting for the next book: Hopefully a reveal about Gideon's past trauma and details about his brother, Eva's rapist and ex-step brother will probably end up dead by Gideon's overbearing hand, Eva's roommate will have sex with anyone again, and I think that doctor Eva talked to at the dinner party will be making a reappearance as possible competition for Gideon.

Hi guy's,

New user here!

I have only just finished reading bared to you and I must say I loved it, and cannot wait for the next book. I usually try to avoid reading trilogies/series of books until I have them all in my possession.  As its so frustrating not knowing whats happened. But after reading 50shades and some reviews on bared to you i decided to break from my usual mo and give it ago.

I'm little miffed with myself for this now though >:(! I don't think I'll make it until October & then Jan to find out what happen :(

Bared to you is a much better read then 50 (it was better written) with a more compelling story line.  Well that's just MOP..
