Book Swap Sites
« on: April 19, 2013, 02:08 PM »
These sites are NOT for Ebooks.  If you have hard copies or if you only read hard copies [paperback or hardback] these are the sites for you.

Do remember that while this is not illegal and we have been doing this since Gutenberg published the first books, the author does NOT receive any money from this.  You are NOT supporting an author by swapping books.  If you wish to support an author please use a book sellers site.  Again Authors do not receive any money from the swapping [or sale] of used hard copy books.

How many books do you have on your bookshelf that you're never going to read again? They might look good but mostly they're just gathering dust and growing in numbers. Why not swap them for something you would like to read - the latest best selling thriller or a new picture book for your kids?

With Bimbambim the swapping process could not be easier. All you do is tell us what books you have (I Have -button) and which books you would like (I Want - button) and we'll sort out the rest.

You can specify if you want to swap locally, nationally or internationally (books in most languages). Remember reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body, so start exercising those fingers and load up your books!

You're getting rid of you Alex Rider books ? Seriously ? I thought they were great and read them twice already. Marked and Vampire Academy I heard of, but never read.
As for the others...

It gets frustrating doesn't it.  Mine isn't in reading but in numbers.  I can't say the times tables.  I don't know them and can't learn them.

I think both aren't really easy as you'd need to be able to read and count (and time tables are way faster than adding) in your daily life. I'm lucky with that.
I had problems with my eyes as a child, I had cross-eyed. Still do, but you don't see it anymore, except maybe sometimes when I'm really tired. I had a vision of 2/10 and 4/10 when I was like five or something, and now I'm back at 9/10 and 10/10. But I wear glasses when I'm tired...

You're right ! I's a good thing that you decided to read more paperbacks.
Do you know if it might improve your reading ability ?

I think both aren't really easy as you'd need to be able to read and count (and time tables are way faster than adding) in your daily life. I'm lucky with that.

What makes you think I can add or subtract?  :D  I have to use a calculator for anything but extremely simple math and even then I have to stop and think what 7 plus 3 is and on really bad days when my coping is overwhelmed I have to use my fingers.  I am ok doing stuff like money because I know 4 quarters make a dollar.  I'm not doing numbers I am doing visual ratios.  I can do change faster than someone who is counting it out.

I have Dyscalculia (also called math disability or numlexia) and it is very bad form of it.   It seems to be directly related to the concept of numbers and mental math or use of those numbers..  My Spatial is extremely high.  When I had my IQ tested for Spatial Ability, I was around 155 in IQ.  I can look at the flat diagram and snap that shape together.  Not sure how but I simply know what it is going to look like.

My verbal is extremely high also.  I easily grasp concepts and utilize them.

Math... well...   If you put the math concepts [Algebra] into variables such as a(b)/x=z+y*x, I have no problems.  Plug in the numbers and I better have a calculator to give you the number answer.

I'm lucky that my other skills are so high they  hide the disability.  When I am tired or worn out or extremely emotionally upset, the less I can cope and you will see the disability.

Statistically the smarter a person is the worse the disability will be.  Not sure why but for those at the upper end of the bell curve of intelligence [with 100 being the average and the most people]  the ratio of learning disabilities is much higher and tend to be more intense.  I've often wondered if what makes people smart is actually a cousin of the disabilities.   You can have one without the other but most times, we are just very very good at hiding it.    They didn't catch mine until I was in college the second time for my current degrees.

And the only reason we caught it was one of the teachers realized I cannot Parallel think.  I cannot be talking to you about James the Brother of Christ and suddenly flip over answer something about cooking then go back to James and remember where I was.  I must back out of what I am talking about, focus on cooking then back out of cooking and focus on James.  I do this very very fast but this is how I think.  It's also why even if you are my brother and I pass you on the street I may not recognize you if my brain is NOT in that mode.  I will actually have to stop and think "Now who are you? OH YEAH my brother"  It's fast but I still do it.

She said that is why I was so good with the computers.  DOS computers and I think the same way.  You must back a computer out of the program it is in or the file it is in to go elsewhere.  I do the same thing.  HAL [my first DOS computer] and I thought the same way and he was just a tad quicker.   I was good at it for a reason.  I understood how he worked and "Thought"    But he could do math.... :D
