Night Pleasure is a pleasure to read, as liexo says :)
Also, liexo i am talking about the whole dark hunter universe, it have 3 series were- hunter dark hunter and night hunter ( i guess)

I know there are dark hunters and dream hunters, but I thought it was one big family. I stopped reading them at number ten as in France the titles were all mixed up. And then I discovered more books like BDB, M/M and such...  :P

The Amish still use the phrase construction in English when they are not speaking Amish [it's pretty much not German any more.  Would confuse the crap out of a German Tourist. ]

You get stuff like

Pappa, his hat threw down the stairs.

As for the language, you even have books to teach you to speak it

I am going to split this topic off and move it to the Cafe guys since it is no longer about recommendations.

What's the difference between the Mennonites and the Amish ?

Thanks for moving the thread. But how can I possibly hijack a thread that's called 'books, language and everything else, too' ?  :D
Well done !

No it's quite easy : the major rule is the verb ALWAYS comes at the second place in simple sentences, or last in what we call in french 'propositions' : ...... , because...

ex :     he came late, because he was stuck in traffic
he came late, because he in traffic was stuck            stuck was    (can't remember, it's been 15 years !)
             1       2                                             last

ex :     with all the clouds in the sky this morning I doubt we will go pic-nic
with all the clouds in the sky this morning doubt I we pic-nic will go
                                                1                          2                       last

Just add the   der, die, das, den, dem in it, and you know german !  :P

Huh.... did I loose you ?

This is why I hated that class. And yes you nearly lost me. But you know what the problem was? Like for example book. How would I know if book is der, die or das?? Book was easy but the other words  :o How I despised that class. My language is strictly SVO (Subject, Verbal and Objekt) this is how our sentence start and end. So to be introduced to german...damn  :o

The Amish are what we call Old Order but there can be old Older Mennonites also.

Amish are very restrictive.  They have no modern conveniences.  You do not just become an Amish.  They do not let outsiders in.

When I look at the Amish books floating around I have to laugh. They mean Mennonites.   Mennonites follow Menno also but they are a lot more loose in their interpretation.  For example they may not wear bonnets and allow dark colors in clothing as well as buttons but ride in a buggy and not allow modern conveniences to those who dress just like any other conservative person but the women wear a little net cap and are not allowed to have their hair down.

?  I have no clue what you are talking about.

I simply spit off the posts in here from the intro since we were no longer answering her request for book suggestions and created a new topic from the old one.  If you feel the overwhelming desire to muck about feel free to do so.

No clue why it did that.  I moved it all as one.

Sorry I'm a bit busy trying to figure out a plot and a cover for NaNoWriMo.

For the der, die, das thing, I was like am-stram-gram, ok, that one's masculine....  :D
And I was also using my instinct : oh, it should be that...  I didn't do too bad !  :P

I need to look for a bit more info on the Amish, it's intriguing...

 :o :o :o
Jacob wasn't their king, he was the one that disagreed with other Mennonites about how they should apply what they believe in day to day life, so he separated from them, ths creating a new group, the Amish (his surname was Ammann).
Oh, and it was in 1693 that he went his own way, so I'd say yes, he's probably dead.  ;)
I think I got it !   8)
I'll dig a bit further, though...

I just know become I read Philo's link.

As for recently, I couldn't tell you, I never ever watch the news.... too depressing ! And in France they don't care for the Amish, or stuff like that, it's not sensational enough !
But I'm not sure about the king thing... Leader, maybe...
Let me check.

EDIT : Didn't find anything yet...

They would be the founders or elders.

Jacob would be a dissenter.

Not unless it was a strange branch that I have never heard of.  The do not do Church Hierarchies as other churches do.  That goes against all men are equal in the sight of God.

Their customs are different.

@Philo : I looked around a bit, it's very interesting, and the blogger explains things simply, without judging if it's good or bad. I liked that. It really is information.
The log cabin was nice !

But on the Amish pen-pal section, people want to find pen-pal and give their email address, but also their name, address and phone number !  ??? Even crazy me wouldn't do that...
