I have to agree about not liking Kiera.  She was sooooo whiny.  It's hard to like a heroine who has two hot guys fighting over her and all she can do is whine because they aren't paying her enough attention, she doesn't feel like she's pretty enough, they all must be cheating on her, blah blah blah.  She really got on my nerves.  Even with that, they were some of the best books I've read.

The series is by S.C. Stephens, I highly highly recommend all of her books.  You can find them all here, as well as on smashwords for free.  The two featuring Keira and Kellon were thoughtless and effortless.  Her book It's all relative had a much more likable heroine, even if the main premise of the book did freak me out, lol.  I felt soooo squeamish wanting them to be together, even though I knew what was going on.

I thought it was very good.  S.C. Stephens has a way of writing that really lets you feel what her characters are feeling.  It's about a girl who goes out and hooks up with this guy, is insanely attracted to him, then finds out the next day that they're related.  It all works out in the end, as  a good love story always does.  You can really feel the torment the two main characters go through to get their happy ending.

Such as Ever from The Immortals or even worse? LOL Oh God, did I want to slap that girl so she'd think straight ! :P
this girl makes me hate the whole series. Sadly i still read it, but mannn. I want to throw things. I have no clue how one person can make the basic same bad decision over and over and over again. it's enough to make me twitchy. And the story is so interesting, i just want to kill her off and get us a new MC. >.<

Ooh, I'll check it out!
And man, I totally forgot Claire, thanks Nina for mentioning her! Also, Hermione Granger. Gotta love her brains! :D

My fave are the kick a$$ girls, like cat from night hunterss, pretty much any of the carpathian girls that christine feehan writes about, she really know how to empower women. Also zoey, rose and alisa from christopher picks last vamp series. Oh ya and one of my all time faves is anita blake, she can be harsh and still grily all at the same time. :)
I spread smutt and sexy joy in the name of my Smutt Queen Blu ;)

It's very hard to name favorite female characters (probable because my attention always shifts to the males in the books :P) but after some thinking I have to say Catherine Crawfield aka Cat from Night Hunress by Janine Frost.
The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!

I totally know what you mean. I can name atleast 10 fave male characters off the top of my head, but for females...I have to think  :P

These are the female characters I admire & wish I could be more like.
(They might not all be the In-Your-Face aggressive sort of girls, but they've got strength, smarts & integrity).
01. Yelena from Study Series by Maria V Snyder. She's smart, protective, fierce & independent.
02. Mira from Dark Days Series by Jocelynn Drake. I like her for the same reasons as Yelena, although the books' plots differ a lot.
03. Kate Daniels from Magic Series by Ilona Andrews. She's messed up & alone in bk 01 but throughout the series she makes loyal friends she'd die for. + Who doesn't want to be her if she has Curran ;)
04. Sonea from The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan. She starts out as a girl in the slums & ends up as the strongest magician. It's just a shame she looses the love of her live at the end. (Still mad about that).
05. Eona from The Eon Series by  Alison Goodman.

I love how Tamora Pierce writes her female characters, Alanna, Daine, Beka, Kel, Alianne, Sandry, Daja, Tris...my favorite of those would have to be Aly because she's just that freaking awesome. Ditto with the majority of Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb's leading ladies.
Other favorite female characters include:
Anita Blake (Hamilton), Mercy Thompson (Briggs), Kahlan (Sword of Truth), Lashana (Elvenbane), Faile, Tuon, Min & Aveindha (Wheel of Time),Diora, Teresa, & Kiriel (Sun Sword), Cimorene (Wrede)...I could go on for days.

Least favorite female character?
I absolutely DETEST Sookie Stackhouse. How can such a vapid and mentally deficient character remain alive and continue making the SAME DAMN MISTAKES over and over again? And why would you want to keep reading about her? I gave up after, I don't know, somewhere between the eighth and tenth book. I cannot abide a character that doesn't learn from mistakes. Sookie is entirely too stupid to live.

Gosh you peeps are making my head ache! LOL the only names I'm familiar from the discussion are Hermione, Meghan and Katniss.  I really am overwhelmed how you guys managed to read a LOOOOT of books and remember them all and vividly describe their characteristics! You are all amazing! anyways sticking with the topic, those three above mentioned names I super agree they are real kick a$$! May I just add too Lisbeth Salander.  Aside from being the best hacker and heart of stone to bad guys like Sala, she still manage to have that heart of Gold to her mom, to Palmgren and the fact that she can still be a friend to Mikael after being inlove once is big thing too.

I'm only familiar with stookie because I saw some of the episodes on TV and I know It wasnt worth watching so didn't think I should read the story too.  :)
I agree with that. I think I didn't even finish book 01.

I think also Elena from the Guild Hunter series is a kick a$$... no?

And what about Kaylin from the Chronicles of Elantra?

Also Phèdre from Kushiel's Legacy is remarkable. Not kick a$$, but more subtle.

I also liked very much Mara from The Empire Trilogy - she managed better than man in an all-man-world!

A really funny one is Gini Koch Katherine Katt - like a female version of M.I.B.!!!

Oh Mei I second you on that!!

Kaylin definitely kick ass and her interactions with the Dragon Lords Diarmat /Sanabalis, Tiamaris and esp. with the Arkon is highly amusing!!!  I have been meaning to reread this series ever since Cast in Ruins came out but sigh...it'd probably take me forever.   Did you understand the whole series??  I had questions, no... make them a gazillion questions on this series.   When is author ever going to write about nightshade for more than 3 chapters?? I'm so curious about him!!

Hmmm.. although let's agree to disagree on Phèdre.  She thrives on "it" without which she'd probably feel life is boring  :P

I second that also D91.  I just don't get what all the hype was about?  When I failed to complete reading the book..I tried to watch the series.  Did not last 10 mins into the show and I gave up.  ::)

cheers Aoi
