  • Ut ameris ama.
Please be aware that we have long since finished this.  We NO LONGER ALLOW SHARING OF EBOOKS on this site.  Please do not post a book, it will be removed.  Please do not post a link.  It will be removed.

Dear members

We are in progress of migrating have migrated the site to a new name and defining defined new guidelines. One of the most important is to discontinue hosting ebooks on our website so that we are DMCA compliant.

Over next few days STP's team of Moderators will be deleting all posts from all the Boards containing books and book requests.   These have been deleted.

Please do not make any further book uploads on the site.

Thank you for your understanding.

Note: We will review the new rules when the site is fully migrated, so if you have any suggestions please let us know by contacting one of our Mods.

They're not coming up with anything better for anybody - at least not in the ebook community regard. This "notice" says discontinuation and nothing more. You know. Just like that. In our faces. Like a slap.

Typically, it is a sign of courtesy to give notice (of just about anything in life) in advance. I suppose we were not worthy of such courtesy. It was so much more appropriate to just delete everything and forbid everyone to upload/download on the spot. Very tactful.

Lovely way to show appreciation to a large chunk of people that have provided a lot of your traffic here. Here in this place with all of its ads..

Thanks again moderators for your blatant disregard for any form of courtesy and or tact in this matter.

I am far from disrespectful. I'm merely honest and I do not pander nor grovel. Please refrain from addressing me with your holier-than-thou attitude, as I am not a child and you are not my keeper.

The moderators of this website are entitled to make changes, true, but as members of this website, we are all entitled to state our opinions without the usual pandering that runs rampant round these parts. It's reasonable to make changes, but very unreasonable to expect people not to react.

As for respect, I extend respect as far as respect is extended to me. I stand firm in my belief that this "notice" was sprung unnecessarily abruptly.

Wow ok. That was abrupt but I can't say I'm surprised. I always wondered how far this site would go in terms of ebooks sharing especially that it seemed to be growing with a lot of newbies recently and the huge influx of authors on the opt out list. You guys were defying the odds for a US-based ebook sharing site.

It's disappointing but I don't think they had a choice.

With all due respect to you and all other members unwilling to give us understanding.

There is nothing we can do about the changes that had to be made.

For your information and everyone else's i have attached Author Opt out list that has significantly increased and contains 16859 entries, and has increased more since the list was made. The document has 307 pages.

Thank you for your response and for providing a solid reason for the abruptness. I assure you that neither myself nor other members were unwilling to understand. We simply could not have understood without an actual explanation, which the original notice failed to provide. This puts things into perspective and anyone who doesn't understand from here on out would be highly unreasonable.

It's unfortunate.

i was actually wondering earlier why it seems like my thread was deleted.. now i know.. i do respect the decision and i know it may seem unfair for us but what more for the authors.. after all it is their living.

So this is a major bummer and all :'(, and I was wondering why we still have an author opt out list if we can't share books anymore anyway???

Also big thank you for keeping the site sharing for this long and to all moderators hard work! :-*

I will handle the comments myself. Thanks everyone for understanding and I just want to say that:-

1. We are providing a service free of charge.
2. We work very hard to keep things up and running.
3. We had to make this decision as authors don't understand the digital world yet and they just want to impose the old rules blindly. We have tried to explain in every possible way but they still don't understand.
4. We wanted to give everyone some notice but decided to move quicker due to many reasons.
5. We will still be a close community - discussing, reviewing, looking for new releases etc.

Please feel free to PM me for any suggestions, ideas or even complaints :).

Regards
STP Admin

Amen. Around here, many are concerned more with the groveling and pandering. I prefer the keep-it-real tactic. Everyone is entitled would  to an opinion.

The middle-of-the-night-deletion-thing really leaves a bad taste and that alone is a deterrent to sticking around to see what happens. I would have appreciated a notice that it was going to happen. It's just common courtesy and that would have stayed with people and made this all easier to swallow.

Notice might have been nice i understand u have the right to do what u wish with ur own site but no notice at all seems as if the users of this site mean very little if anything to you. This didn't just happen it was planed and somebody decided not to tell site users. Thankyou to all who made a contribution to the site it ment alot to me a alot of the other fellow readers.
Come on guys, try to understand our situation as well. Believe me when I say this, we had every intention to give notice to all about our actions but due to some recent events we had to move quicker. In any case this change was coming, it was just matter of time.

On positive note, we are changing the name of the site and we are upgrading the server. Ideally wanted to implement the new guidelines with new site but things don't work out always as planned.

PS: We love our users very much and we do care about every single user.
Please always feel free to PM me regarding any issues or suggestions.

Well, STP is, like the best sharing ebooks that i've ever found. Organize and fast response and all that good thing...i'm very lucky to meet you all, guys...

But still, this is reall dissapointmnt for me, who basically, like, live in the third world country and doesn't really understand about globalization...
i dont have visa or credit card or whatever that people need to make an account at paypal, etc. I dont even know if my mate country can make an account at paypal, because basically, even Amazone not have any courier that can send the thing you buy to my country(you can't use kindle here). So this, like, totally blow me away...

i practically can't keep up with you, First world country people, who will more smart and smart and smart and have more entertainment and pop culture compare to us..

whose law this is, btw?
Jusk asking, so i can sew a voodoo doll with some name..
First Impression...must know it will be Totally important and I suck it up

With copyright laws this was inevitable and the shut down of Limewire for downloading files is only a start.
I have been downloading free for years from other site so for those of you who are interested you can still use Bitsnoop and Demonoid for downloading books.
You can't blame the administrators for this decision when the fines are huge for allowing downloads illegally as each book needs the authors permission. You only have to read the beginning of each book to verify that the ebooks are not transferable.
Everyone should be thankful that they have managed to download their books for free thus far  :)
