Only one book for a long journey. What would you choose?
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:08 PM »
Hi fellow STPs

If you have 5 minutes to spare, I have a hypothetical question for you:

Let's say you are to embark on a long journey (months away from civilisation) whereby you can only take one (1) book with you.  What book would choose and why?

Reason I'm asking this question:
I'm wondering if I have missed out on the "book" of a lifetime and I'd hate myself if I did!

Just one itsy bitsy rule:
Book has to be a romance/adult -hey, I don't have anything against YA but heck it, if I'm gonna be stuck somewhere out of civilisation, I'd want me some action ;)

See results below.

I am still curious and it is not too late for your response  ;D

cheers
Aoibheal

I thought our Aoi here was for books we couldn't remember, not a dictionary! :P
And I haven't really checked any books under this genre? sub-genre? whatever it is. Not yet anyways.

lol!! I started off with heavy perfumery in this thread:
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

and our poor LIB was dying of a coughing fit because of it.  That's why I changed my signature signoff to lightly scented bulgarian rose..it's purported to be the best romantic scent and expensive too!  I love that scent!  ;D

sigh...I started calibre with a desktop some light years back and then I had kindle 2, and then I moved to a mini notebook and then moved to a notebook and then .. sigh...I have books everywhere.  Some registered to Microsoft reader only some on Adobe Edition only and then some on FIctionwise and then *scratch head* I couldn't get myself to download everything in one place.  What's the point?? I'll be moving to another desktop another year and then same thing.  Hmm...wish I can have unlimited space in dropbox that way I can store all my books ;)

EDIT: and then I pre-ordered Kindle Fire.  Any suggestions on best way to save all my books??

LOL! Poor LIB. :P
As for your library, good heavens. I'm not sure anyone can help you. I'd go crazy just trying to switch between the readers... :S

O god, this is difficult. one book would not be enough. But if i must choose only one book. I pick 'Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. It has 'action'  ;) and romance. Everything about it is so good.

LOL!!!  I know....it is hard isn't it.  :)

Is Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" really good?  I heard just about everyone...raving on and on about it.  I tried reading it sometime back but gave up only after page 4.  Do you think I should try and read it again?

Thanks iadorelove for sharing with me and STP members, your fave book...the book of your heart ;)

cheers

I would choose The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons.  The book is really long and descriptive.  The romance is breathtaking.  I have never read a book that really captured a time so well.  Another great thing is that it is a trilogy.  Outlander would be my second choice - if you have not read it the series is a must.

I will try and persevere and read on Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.  I have not read The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons and will place it on my tbr list.

you don't have to say you love me  ;D and maybe thoughtless/effortless. But if I were away from all civilization I would prefer to have Kellan (*sigh*) with me  :P

i've moved your thread to general since it's not really a request but more a general discussion (hope you don't mind) but that way there's a bigger chance for participants i think

I would also have Kellan with me

From Aoibheal:  heheheh....now that I've read thoughtless/effortless...I would so love to have Kellan  ;D

I choose The Eight by Katherine Neville. I might end up spending my entire break decoding its plot.;)
Have you checked this out yet?

oops...sorry Aquarise  :-[

As you know, you're one of the rare male counterparts here in STP.   Finally, I now understand your book choice.

ooohhh, that's a hard one. can i cheat and say no book but my kindle so i could have all my favorites from my fave authors like katie macalister, sherrilyn kenyon, and kelley armstrong with me? lol.

LOL yes, i was about to write the same thing! can we do that? cause just ONE book is too limited, every book has its own feeling, and world, and inspiration and a rollercoaster of earth-shattering moments <-----i was on a role there, lol  :)

I didn't answer my own question on this topic did I.  My heart of the hearts book the one book that I would go for on a long journey and will not tire of is titled Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught.

Sigh....it is such a beautifully written story.

really? I'll add it to my reading list! ^^

Hi Hotaru

Nuh uh uh..you can only choose one book my dear "snickers".

Afterall, you're supposed to be on a long journey and you can't possibly lug your whole library; No electronics/smartphones/laptops anything that's remotely technological  ;)

So what's your fave book honey??

My fave book Something wonderful by Judith McNaught is a historical romance.  It might not suit you :)  But recently I have fallen in love with Tate and Joe.  They're the hot male characters from Kristen Ashley's books.  Not historical romance..but contemporary romance category ..I think.  Anyways, if you want to start reading Kristen Ashley's book, you must start with Sweet Dreams (this is Tate & Lauren's story) and then At Peace (Joe and Violet).

hugs & kiss
Aoi
