What are you reading? (November 2011)
« on: November 03, 2011, 05:22 PM »
My weekly "what are you reading threads" have not been getting a lot of activity :( so I have decided to make them monthly instead of weekly. This is the first of the monthly threads so please feel free to discuss any books that you are reading, or plan to read, what you think about recently read books or ask questions about books others are reading.

The rules of the thread are simple:

This is a 'discussion only' board. No uploads or requests will be tolerated and will be deleted without warning. Please be courteous and follow the posted rules. Thank you.

Continued from You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login.

I am also going to lock all of the other threads.

Enjoy! ;D

I'm currently reading Trust in Advertising and can't put it down. I was up till 4 am reading last night. I tried putting it down around 2am but I just laid there and thought about it so I picked it back up. I just love books like that!

I just read that one and was the same way. I just kept reading... :) That author also has Boycotts and Barflies. It's another cute book that I couldn't put down.

I recently read the Fifty Shades books and Beautiful Disaster. I LOVED THEM!!! I want more like these!

I read Thoughtless about a year ago, and while I couldn't put it down...I have no idea why really. I didn't LOVE the book like I did the FSG and BD. I liked it and really wanted to find out what happened but I remember it being very "wordy" and I would skim over the very long descriptive parts. I am thinking that I may go back and re-read it before reading Effortless, though.

I'm reading When She Woke by Hillary Jordan and it's AMAZING so far. I stopped reading Oddily by Linda Pohring about 1/4 of the way in.... it's boring me to pieces.

I'm reading The Pledge by Kimberly Derting.  The premise is a dystopian type world and the beginning was fabulous.  I just finished reading Chicagoland Series #5 Drink Deep and Morganville #11 Last Breath. Both of which I enjoyed as light reading.

Just finished The Clockwork Angel. Also, I finished the Eight ( Katherine Neville) a few days ago.
The Clockwork Angel was good ( sorry, understatement :) ). If you can, you must read it. The best part is, despite being a prequel to The Mortal Instruments,  you do not have to read it to understand this one. Characters are different but the attraction is still here.
The Eight was amazing. But I had a small complaint that it was a bit too long. It never bores but it is disheartening to see a lot of pages remaining ( and I nearly read half the book on my first day.) Still, if you can, give that amazing book a try.
As for now, I might not be able to read (exams are here :( ) but as soon as I am going to begin again, I will post.

Over the past 3-4 days Ive been reading a trilogy they are Crossover and Journey, just started the final book Destiny of The Chosen One trilogy by Mireille Chester. They have really surprised me with how good they are especially seen as the covers arent very appealing so I didnt think they'd be up to much (yes I judge a book by its cover) but seriously they are really worth a read  :)

I finished Dust & Decay and Hollowmen. Both were really good even though I thought the first books in the series were better.

I'm now reading Ex-Patriots.

Right now I am reading the Witch Fairy Series by Bonnie Lamer.  The first book was only .99 on Amazon so I figure I give them a try.

I actually ended up liking the books more than I thought I would.  The characters were entertaining.  Witches, Fae, prophecies, magic, adventure, and of course, romance.

Here is a quick synopsis:

Xandra is half witch, half fairy. Unknown to her heritage until her seventeenth birthday, Xandra has a lot to catch up on. The witches want her dead, and the fairies want her dying blood to enable the Fae to leave their realm and take their revenge on the humans and the witches who banished them. Her mother sends her off with a fae boy, Kallen, who should keep her alive, and teach her of magic. At least that's what he's supposed to do.

There's just so much going on this time of year!! It's exciting that you're liking Scorpio Races!!! I loved it. I'll probably love any book by Maggie Stiefvater.

I just finished Ex-Patriots (I figured since I bought the book I should actually read it) and thought it was so good. I know there has been discussions lately about the first book being so much better than the others in a series. Well I thought this book was as good or better than the first.

I'm now reading Dead Again by George Magnum. I just can't seem to break away from the zombies lately.

I really liked Ex-Patriots, too.  I thought Ex-Heroes was maybe a little better, but not enough to diss Ex-Patriots.  Sometimes the second or third book in a series  seems a little hurried, but this was well done.

I just finished Janet Evanovich Explosive Eighteen and it was really good.  She still manages to have some really funny parts.  There was not enough Ranger though.  I love this series.  Unfortunately I have to wait awhile for another book.

Hey!  I just finished that, and I was pleasantly surprised.  Her last several books were kinda phoned in or something, but Eighteen was really good; Stephanie's thinking for a change, and the slapstick wasn't so broad.  I liked Lula again.

I agree. I actually liked Ex-Patriots a little more than Ex-Heroes. Both were very good, and it gives me high hopes for Ex-Communication later in 2012.

Just finished Dead Again by George Magnum. It was a decent read. Not the best zombie novel I've read, but enjoyable and moved along quickly. My only real complaint was the book was riddled with editing errors. Actually I take that back. For .99 I'm not complaining about the errors!!!! :)

I'm now on to The Compound by S.A. Bodeen.
