Which book started your love for reading?
« on: July 25, 2012, 04:15 PM »
Hey guys I was on Amazon now, I was bored I started browsing for books I found J.E. Bright A song for Caitlin. I loved that book I read that book when I was a teenager it and Darkest Longings by Susan Lewis were my favorite books. It redefined reading romance books for me, made me fall in love with reading but I used to read before. I grew up with sweet valley series, love stories and sweet dreams series that's where my obsession came from, when other girls used to play I would read. I was always a geek so I was wondering which book started your love for reading?

HERE are some covers of some books I used to read memories you cant beat that

I remember exactly what book made me love reading because it's a story my family likes to tell often...
I was thirteen.. The first Harry Potter movie was out three years earlier and because everyone but me had seen it I decided that I hated..
At christmas we went for shopping and I saw Harry Potter 3 on the shelves..I picked it up and start reading..I liked it but didn't know jack about the characters so I have to admit with a little shame that I saw the movies and didn't read the first two books until really later but that was the first book I read that made me the bookworm that I am today..

Elinor Lyon's "The Golden Shore". I must have taken it out of the library a dozen times. I have no idea why I never asked for my own copy, I think I had some idea that books in libraires were special and not for general buying.
I keep looking for a copy, but any that come up are hellishly expensive. I will have to wait for a reprint ( although I have been waiting for many, many year).
From there I went to Heyer and the scific greats, Heinlein, Asimov etc.

I remember reading the children's books called The Golden Books.  I have been an avid reader all my life.
Please excuse any spelling errors.   I have dyslexic fingers!

I think the book that made me love reading would be either The Hunger Games or Twilight  ^-^

Hey Hudasee!
I remember those times (I was born in Manila), and young ones are taught to read Ay suso, suso pala!
What was my first reading material, aside from the obligatory alphabet books?
 Those rented comics!
And yes, i gradually read Nancy Drew, Mills and Boons, then hooked up with Harold Robbins (i know, they're unclassified ¿sexwithoutplot? and then Robert Ludlum, until I took off to live in Spain..

What book are you reading at this moment? I just finished the Julie James series, lawyers and alpha males....Highly recommendable, if you like law stuff, that is.

See ya!

Komiks - Philippine version of marvel comics

Xmen/Superman comics

Nancy Drew series, the Hardy Boys, Baby Sitters Club, Sweet Valley, Danielle Steel - they're the ones available in the library

But the real reason that made me read books before was the Mandatory Monthly Book Review in our English Class. Since i entered HS, its the rule and we're even had to have the book present for inspection. Because some of my classmates were clever enough to make up stories from non-existing books - talk about creativity.
I find myself drawn to people who are intelligent, funny and PERVERTED...

 Hi,

I love lots of books but I started to read English books when I was 11 years old. English isn't my mother tongue. So, I got to learn it in kindergarten and school. ..until today can still remember that first English story book I love to read. The title was "well really , mr twiddle" by Enid Blyton. It was really funny and I laughed so hard.. :)

But it was the novel that made me fall in love with romance during my teen years was the Sweet Dreams series "Lovebirds" , i forgot who wrote it..

I used to read off and on as I kid but not much, my girlfriend had a stack of Harlequins at her cabin, so we would spend two weeks a summer, sun tanning and reading love stories, liked them but wasn't hooked.  Grew up, had two kids, was at the grocery store and in the book rack that they set up  near the check out, was a book by Sandra Brown, called "Two Alone", it was on sale for $1.99, the cover wasn't even great, didn't grab me, but I bought it, that was about 1994, haven't put a book down since.

When I was small, I used to bring all the fairy tale books home from the school library to read.  Loved fantasy, still do.  Although I have switched to  action/adventure too.  But then it is a type of fantasy too.

Right now I am reading Subterranean, where a group is stranded way below the antarctic in a series of caverns on the run from reptilian type creatures that are after them.   Soooooo exciting!!!  Love it.

I still remember the day when I was browsing through the library in my middle school.  8)
I was checking to see what kind of books there were and then something caught my attention. It was a book called Armageddon Summer by Jane Yolen.
After it was read: a bookworm was born  >:D

I remember being allowed to check books out from my elementary school library once a week when the whole class went. They had the Black Stallion series and I read every one. The librarian would cheat and let me turn mine in early and get a new one if I finished it before the rest of the class, though.

My book hmmm...
The mine was The rescue by Nicholas Sparks, it's a book that I still love and it's been like 10 years since the first time I read it. I would even say that Taylor McAden was my first love :cupid:

It's hard to answer this question, since I've been reading all my life!  The favorite childhood books of mine were Encyclopedia Browns and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My favorite teen books were Stephen Kings, especially Pet Cemetery, The Shining and It.
Let all those believe, believe.  Let all those doubt, doubt.

Probably random comics from all over the place. Then I graduated to Enid Blyton's Faraway Tree series and moved my way up to YA and Romance and Fantasy/Sci-fi.
