Curious...Were separate books published for alternative POVs prior to fanfiction?  I've been  consumed rereading Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series to heighten my reading of the latest, Dragonmark. I'm unhappy. This should've been a novella or short story. Since it's the 37th I think it's safe to say readers are fanatic and didn't need chapters cut & pasted from a previous book. It reminded me of reading those hs hockey fics...read one, which was from BPOV and a great story, but when I read the second in EPOV, it was so repetitive I had to skim tons of pages. Forgot the name right now.

I don't remember this trend when I was younger. Did I just not notice or did fanfic have something to do with it?
I've noticed this happening more often as well hun. I don't remember this happening much if at all when I was younger, that or I never noticed enough for it to bother me.

Was the fics you're thinking of Major Misconduct and Coincidental Major by m7707?  :)
I do like to read both sides of certain events in fics and books, but only if they're not going to be repeated almost word for word.

I've just read a book (Chloe by Sarah Brianne) which I really didn't need to read as there was only about 10/15 new pages of info and dialogue the rest had literally been copied from the previous books which I had just re-read as refresher so I could read this book.  :violent-smiley-007: :pulling

I hate when authors do this, it's obvious that it's just another way to get money or that their publisher is pushing for more books that they're having trouble thinking of new ideas especially if it's in a series.  >:( >:(  :( :(

When I received a book promo on fb of a book I just read and saw all the positive reviews, I got a little cranky and mentioned my little disappointment spiel about publishing novellas rather than cut & pasting from previously published work to pad your page count. ... So then Ilona Andrews writes me back and says Hi, I think you're talking about Sherrilyn Kenyon.  :azn: :-[ :azn:  I was so mortified! And fangirling all at the same time. It was horrible and hilarious. I apologized profusely saying that I also read her book this week, which was awesome and vented in the wrong place. S/he thought it was funny and said it made her/his day. How awkward.   ;D

Rereading In Your World by solostintwilight and Breakaway Bella by Hoodfabulous because you know how well the Amish and the mafia go together. Seriously though, they even each other out.

Yes! MM & CM

Agree about the alternating POVs too. Kenyon did this really well previously in which each twin gets their own book. Obviously there's going to be overlap, but it was fantastic. Completely different experience through each twin's eyes. That's part of why the latest was so irritating and disappointing. Knowing that she can write that well, but just got lazy or pushed into publishing too quickly.

Does reading M.S. Force's Ravenous count as reading a fanfic?  :P It's Jasper and Alice's story. It was ok. Still feel weird seeing these names together  in a pubd book: Jasper, Emmett, Lea

After two BDSM love stories, decided to read something different and looked for a paramormal one. Black Dagger Brotherhood of JRWard  has been mentioned her beforeas well as Karen Marie Moning's Fever. Am starting book one of BDB. Hope it's really good as i realize it has 15 books in the series.  :)

I've read the first book in the BDB series a couple of years ago.  I liked it and planned to read more, but please note that I still haven't read the second book in the series. So I guess what I'm saying is the first one didn't grab me by the throat and require me to read more!

I did the same and stopped for pretty much the same reason.  I liked the third book and novella the best - I'm a Zsadist fan.  I also liked the first almost as much (about Wrath).  My daughter liked the second book best (Rhage).

I re-read Fifty Shades Darker and then read Ravenous, both have BDSM themes.

*Gulp* no guaranteed HEA?!?  :-\  ???

Hmmm, am liking book 1 so far. It's not as good as Jeanine Frost's Night Huntress series featuring Cat and Bones though. I guess i can safely proceed up to book 3.  8)
Lamelurker, do tell me which ones don't have HEA from book 6-7 so i know to avoid the,. Then i'll  read spoiler reviews in GR to avoid those that are not HEA from 8 upwards. :)

I believe the first non-HEA is the Shadows, which is #13 or something.

While I'm sure I'd remember if I started to reread them, I can't remember any of the BDB characters beside Wrath and Beth and those are vague. It's only been about 3 years since I   read them, so that's a little surprising. It's probably because I read them so fast. (They're like crack). I honestly don't remember which books I read because I have them all but somewhere around book 6 or 7 (maybe 8 ) I stopped because it started becoming a soap opera with so many characters. Instead of ending/tapering down it felt like balooning. I remember being exasperated and worried about some events so I checked out reviews and saw a sh*storm about the Shadows. It also clued me in to disturbing things between where I was and the newest, so I just cut my losses. The series evolves from books focusing on one main couple (and side character development) to a plethora of arcs at once.

I read the BDB series all the way up to the M/M one, so I could see Blay and Qhuinn get their HEA. I was let down by that one, so I stopped after that. I did read a lot about the non-HEA one, so I'm really glad I stopped reading. Last one I read was Lover At Last, which was #11.

The author got more into urban fantasy, and the battle against that stupid Lessers group than about the romance. I loved the big badass alpha males, didn't always like how the stories ended (Butch/V forever, I don't care what Ward wrote!), but she does give pretty good heroes. For me, the best in the series were the first 5, they started going off the rails after that for me.

I am halfway book 2 featuring Rhage and Mary. It is also ok so far.  Am not fond of the lesser back story. Thanks for the warning about her focusing less on the romance.

I have been reading the synopsis of the books in GR. I may read up to 11 or 12. Sad to see Tohr's Welsie died as indicated in 10. But with "reborn" in the title, guess she comes back  8)

Btw, can i just say i don't like the way their names are written? What are they vhampires?  :P
Their names are so cool! But then she had to make it lame by adding "h".  :-\

Had to share, i brought my apple watch to their service center. Got the spiel it was beyond the 1 year warranty, had to pay a diagnostic fee, if it cannot be repaired they can offer a discount when a buy a replacement. Was disheartened but still optimistic it can be repaired bec they should be able to simply update the ios, right?

After 4 days, i got notification that their Singapore office gave the approval to replace the watch.
Downside is i have to wait 3-4 weeks for the replacement to arrive. But nevermind, at least i get a brand new one for free.  :) Thank you Lord for blessings like these!

*edit* i messaged my niece who used to work for apple in the US. She said the units they give as replacement are not brand new but "restored to manufacture settings". In other words, a unit of the same version as mine but was used and was salvaged. Well, considering my watch is over a year old and i assumed they would have also restored it somehow to fix it, i figured I shouldn't mind as long as i get a working watch back at no additional cost beyond the repair fee.  ;D

Actually, Tohr's book is another one that pissed lots of people off. Might want to double check reviews before reading, but I can tell you, it's NOT what you're thinking right there.

True .
Lover Re-Tohr-ned is about spoiler alert.
Needless to say GR is full of spoilers, and I loved his book because I'm an emotional reader who doesn't give a f#$& about plotlines and writing style as long as I like the characters :D

I gave up BDB after the King (book 12), since I don't do UF, and because I wanted to read about Qhuay in book 12 but they barely had any lines (along with my poor Tohr) :(

Uf - urban fantasy, which as far as I know means : longa$$ series with same characters which drags on and seems forced at times.
Wellsie meets her end at book 3 (loved that one too) , but I always thoyght of her as a background secondary character, so I barely cared except for Tohr's pain of course :P

Seems to me I was the only one who did not care about that, since all the others seemed to suffer more that Tohr himself about that :(

Now I remember Wellsie. That sucked when she died. I liked her, but I felt worse for Tohr. Guess it's from being such a Twi(fanfiction)fan that when these great immortal heroes lose their one mate (for eternity), it's such a loss. Just devastating to read, but quite good.

Just started reading Mistaken Bondage by savannavansmutsmut. Low expectations, but the summary was absurd enough to be intriguing: Bella's going to school to be a teacher, Edward is looking for a new Sub. Sub means something different to both of them and leads Bella into a situation she has never experienced before. Not any where near a traditional BDSM story.

Hey Everyone!

I haven't been getting any notifications here for some reason.  I tried unnotifiy/notify  But still not getting anything.

I've been looking for something to read, but really finding anything that grabs me.  So rereading a lot.  Last new thing I read was Washed Away by Emotion Masen.  It was good. It has been pulled so it should be in the index.  Otherwise it is in my Google Drive.  Edward is a rich Actor I think?  Anyway, he finds a half drowned Bella on the beach of his island right before a storm hits.  She doesn't remember much of anything.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

There are a couple of good WIPs I've been reading, but they don't update very consistently, so I don't think I will rec them.  At least, not until they are complete....  ;D

I'm reading a story from the Fandom for Mental Health compilation by an author I've read many times.  She is a very good writer and usually the only complaint I have is that some of her Bellas have blue eyes (as she does in this fic) but what is absolutely driving me crazy is her Edward keeps calling Bella "girl".

It just doesn't make sense or flow, it seems awkward.  I think "girl" is an odd choice for a term of endearment - baby, sweetheart - not girl??  I'm finding it distracting and not in a good way.

Anyone else have an opinion?
