I'm reading a story from the Fandom for Mental Health compilation by an author I've read many times. She is a very good writer and usually the only complaint I have is that some of her Bellas have blue eyes (as she does in this fic) but what is absolutely driving me crazy is her Edward keeps calling Bella "girl".

It just doesn't make sense or flow, it seems awkward. I think "girl" is an odd choice for a term of endearment - baby, sweetheart - not girl?? I'm finding it distracting and not in a good way.

Anyone else have an opinion?

I could see girl, like "Hey Girl" between to girlfriends, but from a boyfriend or significant other?? I am with you that it doesn't make sense. It doesn't convey any love or feeling beyond friendship and it is just wrong from a guy.

Yeah, "girl" seems off.
I have read alpha males calling their loved one "woman" or "my female" and it kinda fits their persona of a tough guy. But saying "girl"? Nah, it indeed sounds like girlfriends calling each other, or a gay calling his female best friend

Not for me. I read one kinky fic where Bella had to refer to herself as "this girl" instead of "I" during scenes, and in that context I thought it was a little strange, but acceptable. Otherwise, it sounds icky.

Yes, they just became a couple and that's his "pet" name for her. Baby, honey, sweetheart or some cute name - okay, but girl? No, just no.

I still haven't finished the story, I read a couple of pages and stop. Not her best.

Edward's Eternal - right?

I've been able to read about half her stuff. Some are really great, and she writes well. But others? It is like she is writing an original story and then decides to go back an make it a fanfic to test it out on readers. Or take advantage of free beta-ing. Because other than the names? They really aren't Edward and Bella to me.

I finally finished the story, the "girl" thing only got worse. Definitely Not her best.

So the Google drive should be up to date again. I've gotten a little behind with it. I used to live with my laptop, which is where my main Calibre library is. But lately, I've been on my desktop or iPad. And though I grab everything about once I week, I don't always remember to copy it to Google.

That A/N also said she wasn't going to start posting the 3rd Target story until she finished Better Luck Next Time and Madame Bella. Since she didn't finish those two prior to pulling her stories, presumably she did not start posting the 3rd Target story.

I really hate it when they do that. Each story/book should stand alone. I've noticed it's become a standard thing for books lately.

So I'm reading a fanfic and Bella is reading "Withering Heights". This is at least the fourth story I've read that has called it that. Is it that these writers don't actually know the title of the book? Or is that spellcheck? Because Wuthering shows up just fine on my autocorrect. Sigh. I'm feeling old that I know it is wrong.
