I've run into many, but for me a recent sour note has been dialogue. This is in relation to the fact that people use contractions, slang and other grammatically incorrect constructs as a part of normal speech.
"I paired it with a white embezzled tulle peplum top and a fitted black blazer."So the top was stolen? ? ? ?I am reading Aluthsia University and though it is good, this writer needs someone to go through and correct their fancy words. They are all over the place like this. But banshee is spelled/used correctly. Actually, spelling seems to be checked. They are just wrong words.

Yes they need help with that LOL, but I loved the story and plot. Wanna talk about a story that needs help, I just read Sparks Fly by May of Rose. WOW. I suspect this writer is either young, or English isn't their fist language.....maybe both. I do not recommend that one at all. I am considering reading Vampire Witches by Hidesbehindcloseddoors, but I am not sure if I can take another poorly written story at the moment after reading Sparks Fly. Maybe pull up one of my favs and go from there. I also tried to start a new story that wasn't E&B, but I kept imagining it was Edward as the main character, so I guess it is too soon to leave the Twilight world.
Lots of sirens tonight. We are fairly close to a fire station, but these sound more like ambulances. Okay, so maybe not that many for a city. But it was about 5 going by in the last half hour. Usually I might hear one or two all night.
I haven't read either of those. My favorite poorly written story is still My Shiny Freak by prettyflour. For some reason her misused words make what is a fairly funny story hilarious when you take the actual meaning into account. But most of the time, unless the story is really great, it gets annoying after a while when they try to use fancy words incorrectly. It's kind of like "I'm going to show you how smart I am by using big words I don't actually understand because they showed up in the thesaurus as a choice." Sigh. Because they do show up. I use the thesaurus when I write reports for work and my brain blanks on the word I want. Since I know the word when I see it, I don't make that mistake. But I could see it happening based on some of the suggestions I get. Well I finished Aluthis University and looked at the sequel. She is only on chapter 6 and is updating slowly. She says she's in college, so not a lot of time. I think I will wait to read it. I tend to forget what I read otherwise. Lots of sirens tonight. I have been a little bit fanfic obsessed for a while now and for some reason I am stuck on IMPACT it was obviously pulled and I never got to read it so I guess my question to those who have is did I miss out? The summary looks good.
In university, I lived across the street from a fire station and it was surprising how quick I got used to hearing the sirens. The building was shared with a fraternity and the fire alarm system was wired into the city system, so there were several times when the fire fighters would have to gear up and bring the fire truck across the street for burned toast (okay maybe it wasn't that, but never an actual fire). It would have been quicker for them just to walk, but it also didn't leave much time for fixing fire code violations (blocked fire doors) before evacuating and waiting outside in the middle of the night for the truck to arrive. (You also found out interesting facts about your housemates by who they evacuated with in the middle of the night).
Do you mean they are using slang/contractions/etc.. when they shouldn't be or not using when they should?I remember hearing a discussion about this. How currently, everyone (except androids) speaks in contractions. But there were time periods where no one used them. Also, slang changes. Slang in the 1920's, when Edward might have grown up wold have been mostly unintelligible to us. So, would a vampire born in 1901 use current slang or if the don't change much after they are changed, wouldn't they still use older slang? Or maybe none at all. This wouldn't work on AH fics.
For the most part, not using slang/contractions when they should. And these are all human stories set in modern times.
I started it, but never got past the first couple chapters. Bella is understandably whiny at the beginning, but I read for entertainment and escape. Impact didn't initially come across as either.
Thank you at least I can move on not thinking I missed out on the best fic x
So, Twilight Breaking Dawn part 1 and 2 or the Superbowl? Peyton Manning or a really bad movie with The Pretty. Decisions decisions. .... Yeah, Superbowl will win this one. They just played Eclipse and now Twilight. I just noticed there is no rocking chair in her room that I can see. Because the rocking chair is in all the fics. LOL!So I just finished Altered Measures by kitchmill. It was good, but I could swear I read it before. Rockerward and innocent shy Bella who gets pregnant the only time they have sex. Not too much angst. No insta-love. Okay best acting in Twilight - Edward getting a whiff of Bella as she walked into Biology and looking horrified at the smell. And Bella trying to unobtrusively check if she smells bad. This might be my favorite of the movies.
I don't really do angsty stories. But someone else may think it's a great story. Truthfully, I have had a lot of people ask for the story, but never actually heard anyone say they like it. ;D
