Vampire romance Recommendations

Lucky you. I would rather have the rain than the snow we have been getting.  People always seem to forget how to drive in it!!

Not sure what to read next, but kinda in the mood to read a vampire story that isn't twilight or formerly twilight ff. Any suggestions? I have to have my HEA of course.

I recently introduced myself to the Dark Hunter universe by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I don't know what was keeping me from embarking on this journey, but I absolutely LOVED them. I can't recommend the books enough. It's not a strictly vamp world--though they are there...along with dream hunters, shifters and other fun things. I even broke down to read the YA spin-off series Chronicles of Nick, which I rarely do when a series is incomplete. I downloaded the Collection Thus Far which includes the first 21 novels of the Dark Hunter series and then added the novellas and other short stories written separately. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND if you are interested in paranormal romance (with action and suspense). The 14th book, Acheron, had me sobbing with its drama. (Emancipation Proclamation type tears). The heroes are hunters of everything that looks for juicy bits of humans in the dark of the night and are much like traditional vampires themselves except they don't drink blood.

If you like a super kick a$$ heroine with a tough, brooding vampire, check out Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. I absolutely adore Cat and Bones and wish there were more series out there like them. I also love the spin-off series, Night Prince, and am anxiously awaiting the last book which is supposed to come out this summer.

Another series I liked, especially because of the genesis of their vampires--Atlantis--and the rules that govern their world, is the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands. The series starts a little slow and gets better and better as the books continue. Lots of vampire romance here.

So another year has passed.......whom are we missing ?

Me - still working 12-14hrs a day
Getting older, so after working those long hours, most nights I am even too tired to read.

Hubs and I went to Scotland in July.
I. Am. Ready. To. Move
It was one gorgeous country.

Youngest son that was almost killed in the car wreck 2 years ago, graduated college in August.

Holidays were a just a blur between Thanksgiving and Xmas.

Oh Facebook deactivated my older RdMickey Ninteen-Eighty-Nine, so I have been trying to find most again under my real account.
Come find me. (send me a pm so we can hook back up).
Welcome back Stranger! Glad to hear your son has recovered.  A bit jealous about the trip to Scotland but not the 12-14 hour workdays.

This place is not as active as it used to be,  though that's partially due to the website having problems like being down and people not getting notifications.  I'm never sure who is dropping by and reading,  but not commenting,  or who has completely disappeared as I see a number of them still active over on the 152 thread.  We talk a lot more about fiction here than fanfics I think. It's getting harder to find good fanfics anymore.  :(

Thanks. Gotta ask, what are BDB books? The only vamp books I have read is the Twilight series.
Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. I bought them but haven't actually read them yet. *hides head*  I'm still having problems reading fics that don't have Edward & Bella as the main characters.

I did read a few vamp series prior that were good. Mary Janice Davidson's Undead and series.  The first is hilarious.  The other was by Michelle Bardsley's Broken Heart series. There are some lycans in both.

Well, a couple of series. I'm sure you have done BDB books. But ones you may not have been as popular are:

Tina Folsom - Scanguard Vampire series (I have read the first 3 and all 3 were good.)
Laura Kaye - Vampire Warrior King series (I have read them all. Short. Good. Engaging.Would love more)
Laura Kaye - Forever Freed (stand alone and good)
Jaden Sinclair - Guardians Series (I have read the first 2)

Hmmm. I seem to have a lot more paranormal, but not necessarily vampires.

Thanks for the req's everyone. I have written them all down and I will check them out.  Ella, I hear you, I have trouble with getting away from E&B, but I am trying to find, with the dwindling number of good fics still out there and being regularly updated, that I can find other characters to get into to supplement with.

Oddly enough, I read J.R. Ward but her Contemporary Romances (some of which were written under her other name Jessica Bird and are now under J.R. Ward) and not BDB.

For anyone reading Sherrilyn Kenyon's Darkhunter series, I can't emphasize enough to read them in order - and in order to do so per publication date - it also means you'll end up involving yourself with the Dreamhunters and the Wherhunters who are also important.  It might also be helpful if you get the Sherrilyn Darkhunter companion because sometimes it can get confusing.  I've started reading Chronicles of Nick and am caught up until Invision comes out.  Don't like these books as much although they are filling in blanks.  I haven't picked up the last Darkhunter yet sorry to say.  I'm waiting for it to go down in price under used on Amazon.

Hi all!

Been a hectic first week back at work. Feels like my last holiday was ages ago instead of 7 days.

Had to reduce my goodreads challenge from 250 to 200 to 175. As it is, I haven't finished A Rough Start so am 3 books behind schedule as i have not finished any book yet for 2016  :(

Thanks for remindinding me about Mia Sheridan, Jeaniene Frost and BDB. I have the books but i haven't read any of them yet.

Am so glad for ebooks. Less clutter at home now as it has been a few years since i've stopped buying paperbacks. With my advancing age and poorer eyesight, i truly appreciate being able to enlarge the font size of what i am reading.  :)

Welcome back RDMickey! Sure missed your decorations around here. Glad to hear all is well with the family. Don't work too much. I know, easy to say but hard to do. But remember it is not good for your health. So i hope you're taking care of yourself.

Well, I celebrated my 21st wedding anniversary a few days ago. Just had a simple dinner with hubs. No gifts as we are saving for the trip to San Francisco this April. Sometimes it's amazing to realize that much time has passed. I guess more so as the kids grow up. My eldest will start college next year and she got accepted in the 2 universities she applied for. Luckily, those 2 top schools in my country are just 1-2 kms from our house. So am thankful my kids won't have to move away to go to college.

Eacalltheway, I dread the time my kids will get married and move to their own homes. I feel your sadness with your son moving to another state.

I think I'll need to add some fanfics to goodreads, cause I read 2 that aren't on goodreads and now it is telling me I am 1 book behind.  I'll have to read some super short books soon to catch up.

I went to college on the opposite side of the US from my parents, then I spend 2 years in South America and now I live in Europe with their grandkids - so it could be worse.

Is there a good list for knowing which order is should be read in?

Is there a twific goodreads list or something? That sounds intriguing. I've been rereading a lot of fics rather than finding anything new...

For the Dark Hunter's series...try this

Although I would recommend starting with Fantasy Lover which is a prequel but that doesn't have any dark hunters in it so it isn't listed. However the characters reappear later and is chronologically the start of the saga. There is a downloadable PDF that I used when reading the series. You need to go to the For Readers section of Kenyon's website, scroll down to the Printable List of Sherri's Books, click View Files, and then press Reading Order for All Series. It will download as a PDF.

Thanks Lamelurker - I was going to suggest Sherrilyn's website but you beat me to it.  And yes - start with Fantasy Lover - Julian is a sweetheart -a god (literally) married to Grace the psychologist - not to give away story.  He's an immortal teaching Greek history to college students and you gotta love a Greek god whose human kids scribble on his term papers in crayon.  and he does indeed have a recurring role throughout.   Amusing story.  I originally found book 2 in Doubleday Book Club and bought it and then discovered a friend had bought Book 1 (Fantasy Lover) on Amazon. We both thought it was hysterical.  We exchanged books when we finished and then took turns buying the books when they came out - since she wasn't keeping them, they got passed on to me.  She eventually got tired of the series and I'm still with it although a little behind in reading.  and actually - there is one Darkhunter that appears at the end of Fantasy Lover - Kyrian although Julian isn't aware at the time that he's a Dark Hunter - he's working on the assumption that Kyrian died centuries ago.

I'm having trouble accessing your list so forgive me if I repeat it.  Found this list that says Darkhunter but its actually the complete reading list in order including Darkhunter, Dreamhunter, and Werehunter - the links for Dreamhunter and Werehunter indicate which book number is a DarkHunter, a Dreamhunter or a Werehunter.   She's got Fantasy Lover listed underneath as additional reading.

Yeah, it's really confusing because she has different reading lists in different places. Ultimately, I found the comprehensive reading list the easiest to go by and started my first download with just getting the Complete Collection Thus Far (which is actually only the full length novels 1-21 and incomplete, but what can you do.) So my rec is to go to the For Readers section of Kenyon's website (URL below), scroll down to the Printable List of Sherri's Books, click View Files, and then press Reading Order for All Series. It will download as a PDF.

I'm all caught up with the series, though, because once I started I just couldn't stop. I love the many different types of creatures and learning more about the DH universe. I was pleasantly surprised by the Chronicles of Nick books because I expected them to be an expansion of the DH storyline and not a redux--which makes it all weird since what's happening currently in the DH storyline won't all happen the way we're currently reading it because of the time travel stuff happening in CoN. But, I don't care. It's so addicting and fulfilling to read all of the books.

And for anyone really interested in the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost mentioned above, I would recommend all the extras as well. It's a little tricky getting that list as well so I'll spoil it here. Not including the deleted scenes and such that are available, the list is as follows:
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Speaking of redux, that's what I'm doing right now with my twific addiction. I'm reading Choices HP's books of the Cullens receiving the four original books in the mail before Bella arrives in Forks. I've read these before, but was at a loss and am enjoying them again. They are all available in the index.

I think we all have a room that kinda looks like that pic...lol.

Sine this site's reception has been so spotty, I've been reading a lot more that usual.
I'm reading Shayla Black's Scandal Never Sleeps and it's a good one....more mystery, intrigue and suspense.

Weather is still holding pretty good temps....

My middle son moved to Arizona today. He got a promotion at work and that's where the new job is. I'm taking the move a lot harder than I thought I would. It feels like he's leaving for good. College was never this hard...I guess I knew he'd be coming home at some point so that was comforting.
We're visiting in February.....with a side trip to Vegas..lol
I really feel for you hun, as I know what you're feeling. Last month we helped my daughter move up country as her b/f was given a promotion and I was an emotional wreck when we had to leave her there. Even now I get really emotional when I talk to her, she maybe a 17 and have a baby of her own but sh's my baby and she's 6 hours away, I've been trying to convince the hubby to move up to Yorkshire (where she lives) so we can be near but it's not working.  :( ;D

I wish she lived near somewhere near Vegas at least it would soften the blow.  :P
I bet your counting down the days until you see your son next, hope you have a great time when you go and win big when you stop in Vegas.  >:D ;) :P

Happy belated Anniversary hun, 21 years that's amazing.  :-*

Have I checked in here yet this year? If not, Happy belated New Year to everyone!

I dropped in because the Twilight movies are running on FXX today, and MAN, I had forgotten how BAD they could be! Just how stiff and awkward most of the actors seemed, particularly KS/Bella, and (on Eclipse right now) did Emmett always look this...unattractive? I remember Kellan Lutz being a hottie, but Emmett has this awkward dye job and Caesar hair cut that's just yuck!

Jasper and Edward look good though!

Thanks, it seems like an interesting Fantasy world, so when I get a break in my reading schedule I might pick it up

Ok, watching the movies has brought back the bug. Does anyone know if anyone ever combined the original Twilight and Edwards pov into one book, like switching between the two where appropriate? I think I saw something like that mentioned here once upon a time.

Hmmm I don't remember them being merged, but this website redid it all in Epov.

Someone may have done it, but legally, putting the real book in can get you in trouble.  So they probably couldn't post it here or on FFnet.  Not that SM hasn't gotten her money's worth from all of us already.  Because I bought them all.....in multiple versions.  Though it would be cool.

I only watch the movies to see RPattz.  The rest of it is so annoying.  Especially BD, because who cares if unchanging vampires have longer/shorter hair that is a different color than it was in prior movies.  And well, the acting just sucks.  Of course, there is RPattz....  he is so cute, especially in Eclipse.  Where for some strange reason, his sex hair is shorter.  But actually more in keeping with what it would have been like if he were turned in 1918.

Happy Anniversary Booked!

So I'm trying to get rid of this stupid cold my husband so sweetly brought home and shared with me.  The worst part? I have to wear a pad because sudden coughing fits overcomes any kegels.  I can feel it coming, tighten up, and still....changed my sweats 3 times until I found the pads. I don't think I've had a cold with this much coughing before.  Usually cough drops and hot tea keeps it in line.
