Curious...Were separate books published for alternative POVs prior to fanfiction? I've been consumed rereading Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series to heighten my reading of the latest, Dragonmark. I'm unhappy. This should've been a novella or short story. Since it's the 37th I think it's safe to say readers are fanatic and didn't need chapters cut & pasted from a previous book. It reminded me of reading those hs hockey fics...read one, which was from BPOV and a great story, but when I read the second in EPOV, it was so repetitive I had to skim tons of pages. Forgot the name right now. I don't remember this trend when I was younger. Did I just not notice or did fanfic have something to do with it?
Was the fics you're thinking of Major Misconduct and Coincidental Major by m7707? I do like to read both sides of certain events in fics and books, but only if they're not going to be repeated almost word for word.
Does reading M.S. Force's Ravenous count as reading a fanfic? It's Jasper and Alice's story. It was ok. Still feel weird seeing these names together in a pubd book: Jasper, Emmett, LeaAfter two BDSM love stories, decided to read something different and looked for a paramormal one. Black Dagger Brotherhood of JRWard has been mentioned her beforeas well as Karen Marie Moning's Fever. Am starting book one of BDB. Hope it's really good as i realize it has 15 books in the series.
Which 2 bdsm love stories?I really liked the BDB series at first. Loved the au. Gave up after book 6 or 7, Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.. So I gave up eatly. Good luck!
I've read the first book in the BDB series a couple of years ago. I liked it and planned to read more, but please note that I still haven't read the second book in the series. So I guess what I'm saying is the first one didn't grab me by the throat and require me to read more!
I did the same and stopped for pretty much the same reason. I liked the third book and novella the best - I'm a Zsadist fan. I also liked the first almost as much (about Wrath). My daughter liked the second book best (Rhage).
I re-read Fifty Shades Darker and then read Ravenous, both have BDSM themes.*Gulp* no guaranteed HEA?!? Hmmm, am liking book 1 so far. It's not as good as Jeanine Frost's Night Huntress series featuring Cat and Bones though. I guess i can safely proceed up to book 3. Lamelurker, do tell me which ones don't have HEA from book 6-7 so i know to avoid the,. Then i'll read spoiler reviews in GR to avoid those that are not HEA from 8 upwards.
I believe the first non-HEA is the Shadows, which is #13 or something. While I'm sure I'd remember if I started to reread them, I can't remember any of the BDB characters beside Wrath and Beth and those are vague. It's only been about 3 years since I read them, so that's a little surprising. It's probably because I read them so fast. (They're like crack). I honestly don't remember which books I read because I have them all but somewhere around book 6 or 7 (maybe 8 ) I stopped because it started becoming a soap opera with so many characters. Instead of ending/tapering down it felt like balooning. I remember being exasperated and worried about some events so I checked out reviews and saw a sh*storm about the Shadows. It also clued me in to disturbing things between where I was and the newest, so I just cut my losses. The series evolves from books focusing on one main couple (and side character development) to a plethora of arcs at once.
I read the BDB series all the way up to the M/M one, so I could see Blay and Qhuinn get their HEA. I was let down by that one, so I stopped after that. I did read a lot about the non-HEA one, so I'm really glad I stopped reading. Last one I read was Lover At Last, which was #11.The author got more into urban fantasy, and the battle against that stupid Lessers group than about the romance. I loved the big badass alpha males, didn't always like how the stories ended (Butch/V forever, I don't care what Ward wrote!), but she does give pretty good heroes. For me, the best in the series were the first 5, they started going off the rails after that for me.
I am halfway book 2 featuring Rhage and Mary. It is also ok so far. Am not fond of the lesser back story. Thanks for the warning about her focusing less on the romance. I have been reading the synopsis of the books in GR. I may read up to 11 or 12. Sad to see Tohr's Welsie died as indicated in 10. But with "reborn" in the title, guess she comes back Btw, can i just say i don't like the way their names are written? What are they vhampires? Their names are so cool! But then she had to make it lame by adding "h".
Actually, Tohr's book is another one that pissed lots of people off. Might want to double check reviews before reading, but I can tell you, it's NOT what you're thinking right there.
True .Lover Re-Tohr-ned is about spoiler alert.Needless to say GR is full of spoilers, and I loved his book because I'm an emotional reader who doesn't give a f#$& about plotlines and writing style as long as I like the characters I gave up BDB after the King (book 12), since I don't do UF, and because I wanted to read about Qhuay in book 12 but they barely had any lines (along with my poor Tohr)
Thanks for the warnings.Gl@@dis, what does UF mean? Do you recall which book Wellsie was killed? Might stop before that. i dislike it when "major" characters are killed.
