Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

This is probably the only reason why me and the hubby work - we don't understand what we say to each other as I sound so like such a farmer and well he sounds like he does.  :D :DI'm sure you'll be fine hun - just be yourself.  :-* :-*
You know each other through work, so that's a start - I know it's boring but if you get stuck on something to talk about, you can always talk about that.
Good luck, you'll have to let us know if we have to buy a hat or not after your date.  ;) ;) :P :P

Why would you need to buy a hat?

I was thinking last night, and are there any Twi-stories that are vamp stories, but throw out all the little odd things that SMeyer did to her vamps? For instance, the sparkles, the cold, marble skin, the screeching sound when they are torn apart. Even better, has an author ever not only NOT used those things, but made fun of them in some way?

I know that one, where Edward was British and drank tea (sorry, the name is escaping me ATM) made the vamps somewhat different, but I don't remember HOW different.

In this story Edward, Esme and Carlisle are vampires. Bella, Alice, Emmett, Rosalie and Jasper are human. Vampires can't sparkle and Edward can't read minds.

And with Thee Fade Away by Derdriu oFaolain. My favourite Vampward ever, I think...Shoot, * shrug* I don't know, I can barely remember what I read last week... :D

I don't know that it'll get that far, but I think you might be right about that translation thing. People don't really wear hats at weddings in the US. Or I don't know... maybe the upper crust fancy rich ones do. No wedding I've been to/seen has been a hat party.

Really? Hats are de rigueur of any wedding I've been to, but I know that its not always so, plenty of people don't bother even here in the UK...But mainly its just a saying. "Can I buy a hat?" generally means. 'Great! You've met a nice guy and I have my fingers crossed that it'll all work out"..it's just a phrase used that cuts through all that and encompasses hope for an ongoing future...

Agree with Cat, hats are very seldom worn in my country (only baseball caps during the summer) so i was a bit  stumped about the hat comment. The only time i do see people wearing hats, in US movies, are weddings in the south or by the very rich and in a racing derby (yeah, i watched Pretty Woman)  :P

That said, we had a grand time looking and commenting at the hats of the guests during the wedding of Prince William. Am just glad that has not caught on here bec i look ridiculous in hats/caps and where the hell will we store those? Am sure, like a formal dress, you can't wear the same hat to more than 1 occassion. :-\

Since we have been sharing colloquialisms, here we say "Can't wait to taste hot soup" or "when can we drink hot soup?" ( believe me, it sounds more fun and naughty in our language).  This is to hint that we are waiting to attend a couple's wedding, where the fancy ones serve hot soup, signifying hope they will end up getting married in the future. :)

Cat, does it seem like we are just like your aunts, jumping too far ahead just to see you get married and give them grandchildren?  :D :D God, i hated that!!

So, i just wish you luck on your date. Loopy gave good advice. Be yourself and don't over analyze the situation "is he into me or what?". Well, to clue you in, the fact he asked you on a date means he does like you (thankfully, this is not a blind date and you know he is not a hobbit  :D :D).

Work (but dont bitch too much about your other co-workers....yet, during your first date), is always a good backup topic. Movies, books, music you've recently enjoyed is another. At least you'll find out if you like the same things and see if there could be something more to develop with him.

Good luck but most of all, have fun!  :-* and do tell us what happened, unlike 1 other gal here who probably had too much fun dating the gorgeous hunk, after the hobbit, that she didn't want to share  :D :D

Thanks guys. I'm just really nervous. I've never been asked out before (always made me think there was something wrong with me). I just figured I'd end up being a crazy dog lady (I'm more of a dog person than cat). I never expected him to ask me. I seriously looked at him like he was retarded or something and asked him if he was serious. Didn't help that I felt that crap that day. I'm just glad he didn't say forget it and walk off  :o

I think Pretty flour wrote at least one that's a bit of a crack fic - those usually make fun of the SM vamp characteristics. I want to say Guinea Pig Barbie also wrote a good one.

I bought a hard drive and, well, messed stuff up a bit. If it asks if you want dynamic drives, always say no unless you just backed up and really want them.  :P

So no updates to Google drive for a couple days. Sigh.  :-\

So.... I'm gonna be completely pathetic and admit that I'm 21 years old and have never been on a date before. A guy I work with asked me out for coffee on Monday night and I'm really excited and super super nervous. You guys have any advice for the socially inept?
Just have fun. And don't worry too much. I don't think I really dated until I was around that age. No time when in school and I worked with mostly gay guys. ;)

My bad - I totally forget sometimes, that somethings get lost in translation.  ^-^ :-*
demaris is right hats are major thing in the UK, it's just a saying really. I think I've only wore a hat once to all the weddings and that was at my cousins wedding when she married Roland Buerk (Michael Buerk's son - he's a well known News reader over here)

Goodness! Did I forget to share with all of PTS that I've been on a number of dates with the guy with a Prince Albert and though he is very nice and easy on the eye, I have yet to have a first person experience with that part of his anatomy?! Call it apprehension, call it Catholic upbringing, call it batshit crazy, 3 dates does not add up to a 'Hello Your Royal Highness', JS.  :D :D
He's gone away for 2 weeks for work and I reconsider my standpoint once he returns....Stay tuned.

I'm with Booked on this. Though I'm not the best example of how to do things right as the hubby moved in with me and my daughter after only meeting 7 hours before, so what do I know.  :o :D :D

On a totally different topic:
I stupidly signed off a hr ago to do housework (boring I know) and the phone rang, I picked it up without looking at caller ID only to find out that it was Mum nagging me to go to Confession today as it's Easter.  ::) ::) ::)
You'd think I'd learn not to answer the phone on Easter as it's always the same thing and I've not been to Confession in nearly 17 years after the priest caught me and a choir boy in a confessional together.  :P :P That and I think we all know that if I were to go to Confession, I would still be there next Easter.  :D :D

BTW, Happy Easter

Am down with a fever and bad cough since yesterday. Wasn't able to go to mass, do the grocery and visit my mom. Hubs thankfully did the grocery (they do have some use LOL).

I read Rear View by Dishie and it was good, thanks for the rec. Didn't expect it would be an action/suspense. But it was a good read.

Since i wasn't able to hear mass and only prayed the rosary and some easter prayers with hubs and the kids, i, in all conscience, couldn't watch p0rn after 40 days of abstinence. Since my cough kept me awake, i waited until it was 12:20am on monday before i went to p0rnhub  :P Do you think i will not be welcome at the pearly gates when i'm struck dead with this fever and horrendous cough?
