Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Sooo..... I had my date today. And I was myself. But, I don't know about whether or not I'll see him again. He was more interesting when we were texting. In person, he barely says a word. I called him on it, and he told me he's shy until he feels more comfortable. Then he isn't. But he told me all he does in his free time is hang out at a pool hall. I mean, I mostly read, but still. A pool hall?! I don't know....

At least he wasn't on his phone while you were on a date. That would have been a major turnoff.  Play it by ear, just keep your options open, never close a door specially this soon and if he was a gentleman.  :)

Okay, someone on here brought this story up and said it was pretty tough to take due to the abuse Bella endures.  I decided I had to check it out.  So I flipped through the chapters and decided to give it a go.  The first couple of chapters are pretty gruesome, but it gets better and there is a HEA.  I haven't finished it yet (even though I know it has a HEA).  So I'm reading along and Bella is trying to get out of the hospital and has to have all the doctors, therapists, etc. agree that she's ready to be discharged.  So, she has one more doctor to go:

That left only Ben Cheney, and that meant a full genealogical examination. I was prepared for that, as prepared as I was likely to ever get, but I was still petrified by the time he arrived.

I'd be scared, too.  LOL  No telling what that kind of exam will turn up.

I freaking love you hun.
I started this fic last night and I've found it really hard to put down, it's the first fic in ages that's had me gripped by the end of the 1st paragraph.  :) :)
I know the subject matter is pretty heavy, but I did laugh at the end of Chapter 3 when Carlisle told Edward that Jake was stitched up by Calvin Harris - I got an image of the DJ stitching him up while dropping a few beats and "singing" (yes, I use that word loosely as anyone that's heard him sing knows it's not his forte)  :D :D

At least he was honest and told you it takes him a while to get comfortable with someone. I think it's easier to talk to peeps through email/text etc than person these days.
Though, I do agree with you hanging out a pool hall - oh the excitement!!!  :D :D
If you have another date, I hope it goes better.  :-* :-*

Dragged my sorry ass out of bed this morning to go to work. My boss and officemates saw how bad i sounded (frog voice and hacking cough) and was telling me to go home. Since i was there, decided to stay and try to clear some backlog of work. Definitely staying home tom, am not a spring chicken anymore. Worst news today, my batchmate in college died of a heart attack on easter sunday! Talk about a wake up call. She's single and bigger than me weight wise. She was just posting some pics of her US trip in FB a few weeks ago!   :omg:
Sorry to hear that you're still sick hun, at least you went into work that's definitely a lot more than most peeps would do.  :-* :-*
Sorry to hear about friend hun, it really does put things into perspective when you hear about things like that.  :( :( :-* :-*

Just a warning,  I messed up my computer big time and am trying to recover the files. Turns out, you can't turn your main hard drive into a dynamic drive and still expect it to work. Not that I wanted to turn it into one. And reloading windows sometimes wipes the backup drive instead of the main brand new drive that you want it to load on.

Needless to say, I'm trying not to cry. And I've got a program running that I'm hoping will save at least my documents folder. But it is extremely slow. And so far I can't tell if it's giving me good data or not. I couldn't really choose the folder to recover and it started with the program folders. I have about 750 GBs on the drive.  Sigh  :-\

What this means is that I may take a bit to update the Google drive. It won't affect anything already there.

Poor you.  I hope everything will be alright.

Poor you.  I hope everything will be alright.
I am cautiously optimistic about the two programs I'm running right now. One is grabbing the files from the unreadable drive and the other is actually recovering a whole lot of data that had been formatted and turned into a Windows 8 drive. I'm assuming it won't be able to recover the files that was overwritten. But the rest is actually readable :)  And only another day or two to go....:P

I finished reading The Driven trilogy today...   oh goodness, what a wild ride that was!  I do definitely love me some Colton!   And ahhhh those epilogues!   :) :'( :)

Trying to figure out what to read next...   I need something far from the "famous alphamale" formula.  I'm thinking maybe Beyond Time by Tkegl?   You guys all loved that one, right?

Thanks for letting me know about this Trilogy. Will give it a try. :)

After Rear View Mirror, i went back to books and finished Abbi Glines' Vincent Boys and Vincent Brothers (5 stars). Also read Lexxie Coupers' book 6 of her Heart of Fame series, Blame it on the Bass (4 stars, love this series!). Which got me to reading some of her other books with intertwined characters/stories (all 4-5 stars)

Sunset Heat: Bandicoot Cove (the wedding part 2)
A Single Knight
Suck and Blow: Party Games 1

Just finished Truth or Dare: Party Games 2 by Rhian Cahill (5 stars)
Will finish book 3 Twister by Lexxie then book 4 Spin the Bottle by Rhian.
The Party Games are short, hot, fun reads  :) if the last 2 are like the first 2 books, then definitely rec this series too!

I just finished Hex Appeal by Linda Wisdom. It's the second in a series (after 50 Ways To Hex Your Ex). They're pretty good and lighthearted--with just the right amount of smut and drama/angst to keep your going. But it's mostly a quirky fun series. I recommend you guys read them both.

If you all are saving fanfiction, is there any particular way you have it sorted? Do you add notes to the files? I think it's time I finally get around to using Calibre, because I'm trying to remember the name of one story that's slipped my mind and I'm going through a huge list of links I have -- only to get the dreaded "Story Not Found" after it's been pulled. I'm so upset I figured out you could actually download fanfiction when it was too late, because I could have been saving all of these stories to my tablet instead of just saving the link to come back to later  :'(

Good thing you have a source for getting copies of things that are pulled  ;)

Probably all of us have a different system.  Ella's may be the most detailed.  Ella has a link in the opening post of this thread about her library set up that may be helpful.  Luckily, with calibre, you can sort in different ways depending on what you're looking for.  I generally keep mine in alpha order by story, unless I'm looking for stories by a particular author.  But we're all different.

So I was using my Kindle collections to sort by Ward. But I also have a humor category and a OS & Shorts for quick reads. Only I did a lot of updating last week and didn't backup. Sigh.

My hope is that I can transfer the categories from the Kindle to Calibre library on my Desktop computer.  Fingers crossed. ;)

Damn, I'm at work! I'm too chicken shit to click on the links!  :P

I just caught up on the last 5 pages and had a really good laugh. Loopy trying to find a priest with a lot of time to confess to and Demaris trying to catch a glimpse down her date's pants - totally unobtrusive of course.  :D
I'm still admiring the view when I'm under treatment of my physiotherapist twice a week. Oh to be younger than him! What a great view. He's so my type it's not funny anymore. But he's just as old as Rob and well, I'm married, so that's all pointless, but a girl can look...  8) I can't even look him in the eyes without blushing like a teenager.  :D Such a cougar!  :P

I was on the edge of a reader's block once more, but then I remembered the rec for Ladder to the Sun by rosybud and I couldn't put it down!!! Now that was finally a story exactly for my likes!!! Never too fluffy, not too wordy, enough angst to make me cry. I devoured every single word and I can't remember when it happened the last time!

How can you die when you've never really lived? That's the problem Bella Swan faces when she's told she only has a year to live. Can she make up for a lonely, unhappy life in the short time she has left... and maybe find love too? All-human, EXB
 Rated: Fiction M - English - Angst/Romance - Bella, Edward - Chapters: 22 - Words: 111,847 - Reviews: 2,420 - Favs: 3,645 - Follows: 1,572 - Updated: Sep 24, 2010 - Published: Oct 31, 2009 - Status: Complete - id: 5479529

But now that I've finished this and read the outtakes on top I'm facing the same problem. What should I read? I want to be blown away. Like the fic above or Starry Eyed Inside or Wide Awake or Fridays At Noon or The Elusive Mr. Cullen. *sigh*

I tried to read Bloodlines by windchymes, but I really couldn't get into it. I simply didn't care enough for the plot and stopped after 6 or 7 chapters.  :(

Do you have any recs for me that might blow my mind? I love angst and love a good cry over a fic. It even doesn't have to have a HEA.

You know, here in the good ol' USA, we have Congressmen texting pics of their appendages to ladies who may (or may not) be interested in viewing said pics.  Here, we're offering your guy a willing audience. No strings attached, no awkward morning after.  You think he won't want to show it off?

I gotta tell you, I laughed myself silly when I read your post (and Loopy's response)!

Yeah, I love your politicians, they put ours to shame..*aside* Phff! Being arrested, charged and taken to court for allegedly raping an assistant, lame!  :D  :P

Lots going on in recent pages...   I laughed a ton at the Prince Albert conversation...  I'm not really even sure what that is, but I think I know.  Oh and I've never seen Sons of Anarchy, but always hear good things about it.  Maybe I'll watch that one day after I get caught up on Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. (still only on episode 1 of both of those LOL)

Oh and the "buy a hat" thing.  I didn't know what that meant either, but now that you mention it I remember seeing all the hats at the most recent royal wedding.  They talked about them a lot on the gossip channels.  LOL

I need to find a fic to read next...  I'm about to finish Crashed (book 3 of the Driven series).    Either that or I'll read Jellicoe Road per Demaris' suggestion.     So many decisions.

You have to watch SOA, It is just fantastic! I'm a new convert so I watched 5 series in about a week! But its so addictive...And then there's Jax.....Mama mia!

READ Jellicoe Road!!   :D

I really enjoyed Ladder To The Sun, it was a good read. I'm not a huge fan of Windchymes so I can totally with you on that one...
I went back and looked at some of the first fics I r, ead when this craziness started:
Secret Lies and Family ties by Idpattthat (I love that name!), Trippin, Slippin, Stumbletumblin by yellowglue (my first fic ever and still one of the best I've ever read, Yellowglue is a genius) The Work Boyfriend by Juliaaaah, (pretty realistic story, I think the author was actually writing from personal experience, if I remember rightly) Opener vs Headliner by Saewod (this was the first Rock/musicanward I read) Under The AppleTree Danieller123 (A classic and worth every moment spent reading it)  Faking It by spanglemaker9 (The first actorward I read and a good story) Grey by Adair7 (plenty of angst and non-HEA), In Places No One Will Find by carrie.wilson (Non- HEA. Angst but really, really well written. I love this story. It might not be in the index as I think the author wanted to personally send the finished story to people herself because she'd been flamed so badly when the HEA crazies found out the ending...FFG will know.) Toye by Bratty-Vamp (Well written. non-HEA. It's horror, kinda. I laughed when I got to the end; I'm sure that is not the reaction the author was aiming for...)

I could continue but my lunch break is now over!!  :D All these can be found either still online or in the index...

I'm about 1/2 way through now and still enjoying it. Maxigrumpling has definitely done her research as it's realistic, where most fics/books etc the character just wakes up is absolutely fine after surgery or a coma etc.
I can forgive SPaGs if there too distracting and it's a good story which this definitely is.

You forgot Illegitimate love children, Expenses scandals which included some of my all time favourite excuses: Moat Cleaning, MPs hubby watching P0rn in a hotel or my all time favourite: charging expenses for a bag of Maltesers!!  :D :D

Thank you so much for the recs, Demaris! I think I'll go with Trippin, Slippin, Stumbletumblin. It's on my TBR-list for a long time, but I keep forgetting about it and always lose track what to read next because the list is so big.
I still have book 8 in the Cut & Run Series left to read, so that's my S.O.S. stuff to read. Ty and Zane are always good for a wild ride.
