  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Going by the picture with the teaser?  It doesn't look good for the kids.

Honestly FFG? I give up. Both the story and those authors? It's heartfail all over the place...I had to go into 'rehab' by time it all got said and done. But as TeamBella names all her fics from KOL song titles I wouldn't take it as a 'sign'

Honestly, FFG is right, we talked this story to death! It's on thread 2 somewhere. But here is my review of it on Goodreads if it helps. I'm not that bothered about HEA but if you are, if you have to have weddings, flowers, babies etc this is not the story that will give you that....

Great review! Thank you for sharing. I don't need green-eyed babies, but I do like knowing if there's hope (or just tissues) in the end. Now I need to read it...moving up on the TBR...

I forgot to mention that there is a future-take of Dusty that's been written for Fandom for Leukaemia and Lymphoma; you never know, there may be a HEA to be had then, though I doubt it as it's only Teambella23 with no Yellowglue....yeah.

I just downloaded the 2012 doc, searched, came up empty, reread your post, went back to the site and saw I still have 40 days left for the 2013 doc to be ready! Guess I'll wait on reading Dusty for now.

Thanks for the info :)

You have to donate to the charity in order to get a copy of all the stories but....Shhh..don't tell anyone  :-X but the probability of TeamBella not posting her futuretake on FFN is nought to zero percent, js

Loopy, I really posted that picture for you.

While I am old enough to have a 30 year old daughter (if I started young [but still older than you started]), I think it would be a little strange to have a granddaughter older than my middle child (he won't be 15 til next week).

Just a couple of other arguments against - your mother might object and since we live in different countries, it would be hard for me to take you to concerts with me.  Darn! I knew I should have gone to the Glastonbury music festival to see the Rolling Stones!  You would've gone with me, right?

Having said that, we can have a less official relationship, if you like.  Even without adopting you I spend time worrying about your health and safety.  As in, are you keeping yourself and your little life-in-being healthy, and are you staying safe and out of jail?

Now, feel free to introduce me to Mumford & Sons.  Do you think they know the boys in Maroon 5 and would they get us an introduction?
Lol, okay hun - we'll have a less official relationship as I think that's probably the safer option for you anyway.  :P :D
Me and bump are okay and keeping out of jail as they don't serve Mac 'n' Cheese in there I've heard  :( :D - got another scan tomorrow.  :)
As for Glastonbury this year is the first year (when it's been on) in the last 10 years we've not been able to get tickets - that's where I met Mumford & Sons and played spin the bottle with Coldplay and Stereophonics and a whole load of other stuff backstage which is probably illegal and if it's not illegal it's definitely frowned upon.  :D
So in short - I would've definitely gone with you hun.  :)

My main thing about P2P is, I'm not going to pay for something I can get for free. If only the names and locations have been changed, why should I spend the money? Now if it's been extensively re-written, and both pieces are said to be good, I'm likely to give both a try, the fic and the P2P.. Unfortunately, you don't hear about many fics getting more than minor changes before being pubbed.

I also find it a bit icky to make money off of someone else's fandom, but I can't say that, if I had written something that could maybe bring in some MUCH needed cash, I wouldn't jump at the chance.   I'm not going to go on a rage warning people away from P2P though. Not my business, although I do shelve as P2P, but it's more to remind myself.
I don't mind paying if I really liked the story.  If it had been a book originally, I would have paid to read it. But if it were a crappy story to start & nothing was fixed. No, I wouldn't pay.  I just figured I can afford it. And if it pays back a bit to someone who needs the money & has provided me with entertainment, it's good. I've spent a fortune on books over the years and I enjoy fanfic more than most of those books I bought.

Does that make any sense? ;)

Hi Ladies
I'm wondering, how do you decide what to read on your TBR list? I know I had a system before taking my hiatus, but for the life of me I can't seen to get my head around how I managed to collect soooooo many damn stories and how I went about picking one to read.  In the last week I've just picked ones I've read mention on here, like Gentleman, (which, btw, I didn't think was more than a 2.5* at best,) and that I already had on the list and started reading..put I have to be more proactive than that if I am ever going to make head way...I remember PK decided, on her break from teaching, to just go through them alphabetically, does anyone else find that that works for them?  Give me some tips, my Fan Fiction Sisters!

PS. I don't mean storage, Calibre has me covered on that front very nicely...

 :-*
I usually try to decide which "ward" I want to read and then I look at which ones I have in that category.  Fortunately my TBR fanfic list is <50 fics so it's easier for me to wade through.    I like to get it down to a handful and then ask the ladies here if they have opinions on them...  or I look back at our old threads to see what people have said.

I just think MOTU or fsog was a bad fic and even worse for a book. I also don't like that the fandom now is known for it. There are awesome fics out here, wayyyyyyyy better than MOTU.
50SoG introduced me to fanfiction!  I know what you  mean about there being so many fics that are WAY better.   After I read things like Fridays at Noon, Stranger Than Fiction, Lolashoes trilogy, Wide Awake I just have to wonder why these ladies aren't making big bucks by getting published!

Thanks for mentioning this...  I have been wanting to read Dusty so bad because of all the hype, but I get so emotionally involved in reading that I'm afraid I'd need rehab too if things didn't turn out hunky dory!   And from everything I've read, they don't.    I don't necessarily need weddings and babies (although I do love an ending like that), but at least give

Wow!  What an awesome review!  That makes me want to read it! LOL    400,000+ words!  So far I haven't seen a fic that long.

Now see, I'm usually broke, so if I can read something for free, that's what I'll pick every time. 8)

I totally get that too. I read a lot of library books for years.  They didn't have fanfics like this when I was younger.

And? I've saved a lot on romance books in the last two years.  ;D

Dusty is one of those fics that you remember even after reading thousands of fics. It was definitely a promising fic when it was still a WIP. Dusty definitely straddled that 'almost unforgivable ward' line, and the story kind of felt unfinished or rushed in a way, but at the same time reminds you of those open ended movies that left you wondering if

While reading the fic I've always wondered if the only reason I still am rooting for BxE is because it's Edward. If you've been reading fanfic for a while you know how much douchebaggery these Edward characters get away with.

I agree.

How on earth could he even be considered?  He doesn't fit the character description in any way whatsoever.

I still cannot fathom how they can make it into a film.  To cast TL would be a joke though.

You can always try another one of that author's stories.  I've enjoyed what I've read by her.  Other than the Cullen Legacy, I think the last story I read by her was This is Who I Am.
