  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I started reading Realize by Goo82!  It's good so far.    I'm not completely blown away by it yet, but it's an enjoyable read.   I'm liking Jake in this and I'm not usually Team Jacob. :)

You guys mentioned Rochelle Allison having good light/fluffy fics...

I recently found Rochelle Allison and really fell for her stuff.

A nice intro to her work might be Brighter, Appease, Venture, which is 3 stories in one file that originated from witfit prompts. Each were good, so I rec them all. Brighter was engaging throughout--nice and light. Edward and Bella meet in St. Croix. The idealic island life made me envious as I read. Sweet. (about 260 pages) Appease was really good. As nanny to Edward's much younger brother and sister, Bella instigates Edward's metamorphasis. Nice character growth. Read it straight through. (about 260 pages). In Venture, Edward and Bella meet on a bus on their way cross country. Only about 40 pages long, it was short and oh so sweet. I wish I got more of these two.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Air was a good read--light and sweet. I think you'd like it since you liked the Practicum.

Volition was my first and a strong lead for a complex romance during 1970s Ireland. (Yummy Edward with a brogue accent). It's probably her most well known story.

Starry Eyed Inside--another good read. Really gets inside the mind of an adolescent girl without writing it immaturely. Spanning all four years of HS, I found it a little long, but it was written so well that I easily got lost in the story.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Sessions is a sweet one about how a lover of music and a musician grow into something more. Lots of music references in this appealing story.

I hope that is helpful!

Thanks so much ladies!  And lamelurker, thanks for the descriptions!  I'm off to see if I can find B/A/V!

Ok, found it on fanfic...   It's like 75 chapters, but I don't see mention in the chapter list of where one book starts and the next begins.    Do you just read the whole thing straight through?

I read the whole thing straight through, but if you want to skip around, then appease starts at ch 35 and Venture at ch 72. Hope you like!

Volition is my all time fav fic. Also, I think is one of the few who doesn't read like fanfiction.

I can see why it's your fav fic. It was a great story. Not exactly the light/fluffy (to me at least) type of story that kimkimkim mentioned looking for, but I thought it was worth mentioning since it was so good. I concur about how it reads, I could certainly see it getting P2P. The only thing I wished were different was getting some Edward POV during the story (I loved the outtakes). I think if that were incorporated, Volition would be in my top too. The plot was rich, and the characters were interesting. Wonderful HEA.

I've always had to filter for English.  So, I'm not sure what you are talking about.  It never kept any of my filters or I would have it on all ratings.  I always have to change to All for every community too.

Gets a little annoying after a while I must say....

When I put my preferences in I bookmark, this saves my settings. I always access the site by going to my bookmark and never have to filter again. The problem I'm experiencing is that now the format for Ffn seems to have changed and I'm not even allowed to filter. There is a drop down box to set preferences but it does nothing. I still get fics in all languages, all ratings and every possible pairing. Iow, every Fic written by everyone in the entire world!. So, yeah, help please

Happy Birthday Avrildulac!

I hope you were able to celebrate in style - or at least got to have a lie in on your birthday.

If not....

Do you guys have a certain plot scenario where if that thing happens you have to roll your eyes and fight the urge to flounce?

I have a major one.   It pretty much ruins the read for me.   I'm reading Realize and it almost went there but then didn't.   It is...

I'm not really even sure why it bugs me so much because technically it's great if everything works out but I've just read so many stories that are going really well only to use this to wrap it up.   That was probably my biggest gripe about Twilight and I guess I never got over it.  :-)

Ruined the book for me!   Can't put my finger on why it's such a hot button for me as far as plots go. Just too predictable I guess.
