Im reading some of the one star reviews for Outlander on GoodReads.... and now im thinking, how did i like this book? lolAs i said before, its funny how we like different things. Have opposite reactions for the same plot twists. They say there is one scene where Jamie rapes Claire. (book one) I cant remember that scene at all. I guess i was blind to everyting after falling in love with Jamie. He can do no wrong, even when he does (the same thing happened with Edward in fanfic, he was allowed to do anything, rape, murder, stalk, kidnapp and so on). When i first read Twilight i loved it, even tho i knew it wasnt any work of art. But after reading so many fanfics i actually think Twilight sucks. Some fanfic was so much better.Did that happen to you guys?
I don't read anyone's reviews on Goodread, unless they're 'friends', I've learnt my lesson. And even then I pay attention to my friends star ratings and very rarely read their reviews, and even ratings I take with a pinch of salt (Loopy! ) because as you say we all have different tastes. I'm with you on Twilight, I read it cos I ran out of reading material on holiday, never gave it another thought until FSOG sent me TwiFic's way...I think most of the Twific Classics are better than the original....
I have some people on GR that i know that if they liked something chances are i wont like it.I tend to check overall ratings, if it has too many one or two stars reviews i might read the reviews to see what they are saying.Cause normally people only give good reviews, people are shy about giving a shitty review.I was checking the Outlander reviews now cause my grandmother will start reading today, and another friend is stuck on DIA and complaining that the series will only start on April.I was thinking my grandma would love it, but now im a bit on the fence, on how she will react to all the rapes and flogging. She loved Pillars of the Earth, they also have a graphic rape. But i mostly check people books on GR for new reading material.
I read nothing in Book 1 or 75% of Book 2 that Jamie raped Claire. Ever. I know I would have dropped it like a hot potato. They both get raped, true, but not by each other. In book 2, there was a section he says. Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.BUT she doesn't say no and doesn't try and stop him. There is a clear difference. And she enjoys it. "Needing" someone and they allow it, doesn't make it rape. Just my opinion. I want to read the series, I swear I do, but just cannot get through it. I do fluv me some Jamie. I'm just going to have to watch it and let the editors do their magic. It's 10x better than the book. As far as Twilight. I only read after I watched Twilight and New Moon. The fascination has always been Rob.
Another thought. Jamie would not rape Claire. There are too many things he says.....Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I agree it is a pain to copy and paste on an ipad. I have just about resulted to having both my laptop to post here and my ipad to read nearby. I do not take that scene as Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents. Maybe I have read too many erotic novels/fanfics these days. That scene didn't bother me at all. shrugs
Thanks! I'm enjoying it so far! I just met her brother (Mike) for the first time. Glad to hear that BC is good.. I only read a little of the description, but the forbidden love blurb had me intrigued! I thought Kyland sounded a little depressing, but it's getting good reviews so far! I thought Leo just fell flat and the plot was just so obvious.
Found the bloody thing! I'm not saying it any good but it fits the brief....As If I Never Existed by Zosie. Edward leaves Bella after High School to go to NYU, and soon afterwards, she disappears. While he is living his new life, Bella has been kidnapped by serial girl collector, James, and kept isolated so she suffers Stockholm Syndrome and bonds with him.AHYou are not allowed to view links. OMG, not Zosie!!!! It was only New Year's Eve or something like that we were saying how bad she was. :DI would take offence at that but I'm crap at GR, I either don't rate books or when I do I'm a bit too generous. But you gotta agree that my rating of Groupie was kind of justified as it was so bad it was good. But this year I'm gonna try my best to not rate books to generously.
I think we were talking about her because I was ranting about this story!! And Groupie was my Guilty Pleasure 2014 winner! I didn't realise there was an etiquette for not judging a book to harshly on GR?! (I read a post where someone mentioned that earlier) I've been brutally honest over all the books I've read. Some of my reviews just say. 'Crap, don't read' But it makes sense, I've read some reviews on books that I thought were one step up from toilet paper that others have waxed lyrically about...
Like the book I just finished it was okay, but I feel like I'm being blackmailed into leaving a review as the author says right at the end of the book she won't write/release the next book in the series unless the reviews left are favourable.Which really pissed me off as she left the book with several unaswered questions, I don't don't mind a book ending on a cliffie at all but for the author to say that she might not even release the next book is just Don't know where it come from but rant over.
