I saw this on a Buzzfeed list of "27 people who are more awkward than you", its a little old but it still made me laugh.
So i was over on Facebook and someone linked to this article. I guess it is now okay to plagiarize as long as you are only "sampling" like a DJ would. Do they understand that nightclubs normally pay fees so they can play whatever music they want? You are not allowed to view links. Register or LoginIt is just so crazy.
What bullsh!t....how can that be even a little bit OK?! She should be sued.
I'm with you on this. And they are giving her an award even though they know parts are plagiarized? There is something wrong with those judges.
All I can say is that if it was in the U.S. she would find herself being sued from here to kingdom come by whoever the original author was/is - as Janet Daily found out the hard way (plagiarized a whole book) when Nora Roberts sued her for all she was worth years ago - destroyed Janet's career. Nora is hassling us on InDeath.net for our fanfiction. We don't follow her vision. We've already removed one fic where Eve's father is alive (we've made such a big deal of beating it over people's heads that he's dead - the writer should have known better) and that people are writing fics with Eve and Roarke having children. If the fic is 75 percent Eve/Roarke and not about the kids its within our guidelines. If its all about the kid - even if an adult - it comes down (although that one is still being debated - Nora's only said no children in the current future of Eve/Roarke - foreseeable future yes but not now).
I think if I were writing the fanfiction, it might p*ss me off that Nora wants it pulled because it doesn't match her vision. What about OOC stuff? I've always appreciated that SM never really got involved with fanfiction. Demaris, doesn't PD James write mysteries? I don't think I've ever read one, but I know I have picked them up and thought about reading them.
She's a crime writer just really subtle and fantastic...real whodunits. I've loved the ones I've read. Can you imagine what SM would have had to say about some of the OOC twific that are out there?! The Perfect Wife, EP, and then there's the fact that a lot of these stories are written better than her's Mark of Beauty; yeah, of course she didn't get involved
demaris - Either Nora or her assistant Laura (who's her mouthpiece) or both are coming in and taking time to read the fanfic. Whoever it is evidently has nothing better to do with their time. One or both of them are coming in and reading threads and pming AJ (administrator of the site) on what she/they are having issues with. Its not her damned site. Nora's problem is her ego. She's been getting into some royal battles on her facebook page with the fans. She doesn't take too well to fan criticism. Her latest that pissed people off was when people were commenting on how they couldn't afford to buy the books and whether she could convince Amazon to lower the prices of her stuff on Amazon for a sale (like a number of other authors do). Her remark was that she didn't write for free. We now have a thread called Nora on Sale. Whenever someone finds one of her Kindle books on sale on Amazon, it gets posted. Its probably steaming her all to hell. Too bad, so sad. We think she'd like to see us go away. and I doubt you'd like the fanfic - or maybe you would. I don't read it (although you might find some good stuff in the archives - listed in the fanfic forum under archives - I used to read some of that which was good). jlk who had all the sock puppets evidently had some real angsty stuff but her stuff all disappeared one day - she accused us of deleting it - we think she did it actually - and she's disappeared. We have one moderator who patrols the fanfic and keeps it in line (she didn't for a month when she got a new job and was working like crazy learning that and therefore hadn't been on site - that's when Nora and/or Laura pounced and we ended up scrambling. One of the two authors who got pulled was incredibly pissed - she was already a published author (and a librarian). Nora lost a fan that day. See the following thread that Nora posted on her facebook page on the 10 things that you'll never see in an InDeath book (and she'd like the fanfiction to follow suit - lotsa luck). LOL! This is true. There are many stories out there that are much better written. And there are a heck of a lot more that are worse. Which makes me so happy I can flounce. Shoot! Am I ready to read a non-Twilight book? Sigh. I try, but if I'm not sucked in right away? I put it down never to be picked up again. But I do love a good mystery.
Oh, so, it isn't the lovely, romantic, symbiotic relationship I was envisioning then? Does she have administrator rights on the In.death site? How did she manage to remove stories? What a disappointment, I'd have liked her not to be a beetch The really early books set in the early 60s are of the time, the epitome of British, upper middle class, stiff upper lip, crime drama. Love it! But maybe read the later ones if you want more of a bang straight off the bat....A lot of her stuff has been adapted for TV so see if you can find something online and if you like the format before trying the books. Maybe?
Nora can't do anything on the site except comment. AJ the administrator removed the fics after arguing about it with Laura (and she actually won on one point with Laura because Laura didn't read the rules for fanfiction correctly). Join the club - we'd like her to chill out. She's believing her own hype......they used to leave us alone when Nora had her own fan site ADWOFF (Another Day Without French Fries - please don't ask me why it was called that - I have no idea). Nora killed the site earlier in the year with the excuse that no one was coming there anymore and the internet wasn't the place to be - Facebook was where its at. So now - she's pissing people off on her facebook page with her attitude. Is it any wonder people don't like her personally anymore? We're just trying to keep her at bay and continue onward with a minimum of hassle - before she decides for whatever reason to go the legal route - god forbid.
I tried reading her stories before I found Twilight. I never really liked them. I put them in the category with Danielle Steele - once you read one, you've read them all. And the first was not entertaining enough to want to repeat. I'm not sure how the Robb stories differ from the Roberts stories. I tried reading the first In Death. 3 chapters in....put it down and haven't been back. I will have to try Discovery next. I started that one right after it came out but between work and school, I didn't get far. But I'm starting to want to read something else that isn't Edward and Bella *gasp*
