When I read The Opportunist I thought it was just ok but I was definitely not thrilled with it.  I originally only gave it 3 stars but at the time I didn't realize there were going to be more books.   I didn't like that it didn't feel complete.  After reading the whole trilogy I can say that I loved the series and I highly recommend.  It doesn't follow any of the normal formulas and kept me guessing.     Super Creep I'm wondering if you read the next two books if you'd change your mind like I did about the series?   Demaris, I didn't realize you hadn't read this yet...  You REALLY should.   I think you would appreciate it because it is a hefty dose of angst!  (definitely one of the most angsty books I've ever read, just right behind Dusty on the angstmeter)   I read so many books and then after a month I can't remember anything about them but this is one of those that I just can't ever forget.   I still remember the crazy emotions it made me feel like i just read it yesterday.

If any of you decide to read it, try not to read many of the reviews because you don't want to spoil the plot. :)

After reading this post again I realized that I should probably officially come out of the closet.     :( ^-^   I am an angst-hoor!     Oh wait, I think you guys said this about me before but I was in denial.     I guess the fact is, if the book is good enough I don't even have to have an HEA like I once thought I did.

I have all three on my nook, I have yet to read them i also have the maze runner series and divergent series that I have yet to even crack open. I'm a book hoarder.  :-\
I started the Maze Runner series but it didn't hook me right away and I ended up getting distracted with something else.   A friend told me that I stopped reading right before things got good so I guess I should give it another try one of these days.    I enjoyed the Divergent series but I liked the Legend series even more.   Oh and don't forget the Lux series if you need a few more YA books to hoard. :)

I keep meaning to read this trilogy as they got rec'd to me by Alessandra Torre when she emailed me once (yes, I did just name drop  :P). If they're as angsty as you say hun, I might start them this w/end as I'm dying to read some decent angst.  :) :)  >:D >:D
Yes, angsty! You should definitely read them this weekend!  This story has one of the best "love to hate" characters in any book I've ever read.

Oh and Loopy I love that you added the backwardshatrob to your sig!

Those were only spoilers if you didn't know The Opportunist is part of a series and didn't bother to read the summaries of the next two books!! I wasn't trying to ruin anything  ;) It didn't seem really angsty to me though? I'm having to scroll through so many "WOW THIS BOOK IS SO AMAZING!!" reviews to see if I'm one of the few that just didn't like it. I'm so annoyed with the narrator that I can't even be bothered to focus on the writing, because the girl was such a moron. I've never felt so emotionally detached from something where I just don't like any of the characters. I just kept reading to see what all the hype was about, and it fell flat. There are some stories where characters are written as helpless heroines that are too stupid to live and constantly seeking out ways to be saved, this wasn't it. All of the drama in this was due to her cliched daddy issues that were never really explained other than an excuse for the narrator to have a "valid" excuse for being so cold.

But I skipped ahead to the third book, Thief, and am finding answers to questions I had in The Opportunist. I don't really care about Caleb, but I'm grateful that there's enough back story in this to where I don't have to read the second novel. I know a lot of reviewers loved it, because Leah is a true villain, but I just have no desire to read her drama either.

This has just proved to me that once again, I cannot go by what other people say about how good something is, because 90% of the time, it sucks. To me.

PS I finished the third book, Thief earlier this evening. It didn't enrage me as much as the Opportunist, but I still felt like the characters were big idiots.

Now I just finished Stranger by Megan Hart, which I really enjoyed. Now I can go to bed! I've read 4.5 books today! On the Island and Uncharted by Tracey Garvis Graves, The Opportunist and Thief by Tarryn Fisher.

Loopy, loooove the new siggy...our boy has been working out...damn!! I'm counting an 8 pack.
The backwards hat is not for everyone, obviously. Rob is rockin' that shite, marky mark, not so much.
Truthfully, I'm thinking Rob turned the hat so we could have a better view of the challenge.
The boy looks hot....that white tee leaves very little to the imagination.

Can't remember the last visit to B&N....what does a real book look/feel like?!? Not sure if that's a good or bad thing..

That southern accent has a way of pulling you in. It's smooth lazy drawl cons you....I must say that the Brit. Accent does it for me.

I'm gonna give that Tarryn Fisher book a whirl...didn't she do Mud Vein?..good one

Yes, he is indeed rockin' it! ;-)   And yes, she wrote Mud Vein.   Let us know what you think if you read The Opportunist!   I liked her Love Me With Lies series (the Opportunist, Dirty Red, Thief) that I bought Mud Vein before I even saw any reviews for it.  Still haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but I might read that one next after I finish this last Lux book.

Speaking of...  have any of you read the Lux series?  This last one is called Opposition and it's  a YA book but there are still some steamy scenes in it and they kind of surprised me.   Definitely way more detail than we ever got in Twilight.  Hmm.  Maybe these are rated a little older?

This has just proved to me that once again, I cannot go by what other people say about how good something is, because 90% of the time, it sucks. To me.

You're right, that in your first post wasn't really a spoiler.  I tend not to ever read the descriptions of anything but the first book though because it tells me a little more than I want to know. :)    I felt the same way as far as not really getting answers until I finished the series...  there were even more details and explanations of the past in book 2.    I have never enjoyed hating a character so much as I did in Dirty Red...  she was just awful.    I had a bit of a tough time following the time line at some points and actually had to go back and read from a different character's POV in a previous book to figure out what was going on.

I know what you mean though, it's hard to go off of other people's "wow this is amazing" kind of reviews.    I've felt the same way about books that everyone else raved about.   I think for me when I read this it was just such a unique series and didn't fit all of those formula romances I had been reading so it really stood out for me.

Glad you thought the Thief was a little better.  I had to wait forever and ever for those second and third books to come out so I was salivating by the time I got a hold of them.

I thought I had read Stranger, but turns out I read her book called Dirty.   The other one I was thinking of was called Strangers and it was by Barbara Elsborg or something like that.   I seem to remember it being pretty good, but I read it a very long time ago.  (famous guy/not famous girl type story)

What did you think of On The Island?  I really liked that one but haven't read the second one yet.  Was it as good as the first and is it just a retelling of the same story?

I lose count and start drooling when I'm looking at his wet body (gif on the right of my sig). But he's definitely been working out.

That's why I love the southern accent, the lazy drawl is just panty wetter right there.  :D :D
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't say that about the Brit accent if everyone sounded like me as where I'm from we all pretty much sound like farmers that sound like we're just grunting words instead of speaking them especially if the word has an "R" in.  :D :D

I  read others, but nothing I would rec here.  I will put up with not so great writing/story to get my fix.

Have you read Love and a Big Green Bag?  It says humor, but it is kind of angsty to me. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login It was different but good.  ;)

Am I the only one that think that Edwards Eternal style has changed? It seems like a different person writing it.
