See? Now here is the dilemma. I'm sitting reading published Dusty, it is pretty much the same as the FF, it's been edited, because the FF is hella long but it is, so far, very much the same story...If I were to ask myself why I went ahead and bought these books, when I'd already read the FF, (something I never do, if I've read the FF first), the reply wouldn't make a great deal of sense. It'll have nothing to do with whether it was well edited (there are still a few typos I'm afraid) or changed significantly, nothing to do with story, location or characters and everything to do with the way FF Dusty changed, for better or worse, the way I looked and felt about Twifics, Twilight Fan Fiction has never really been the same since the day I finished that story, the first time.....Its just a fact, I live with it. I still read FF, as I'm a junkie, but, if I'm being totally honest, I'm over it. I spent the money and bought these book as an acknowledgement to the authors of that change, for all their hard work, their talent, and their perseverance, (I'm sure more fics are abandoned than completed on FFN). Positive reviews are amazing but I'm sure kerching is better. Its the least I could do give back to them to show my appreciation; it's personal.
So, did you finish Dusty yet?  I haven't started it yet because I'm only at the 50% mark in aDoW... speaking of, I floooove this book!  I mean flooove.  I haven't liked one this much in a good while it seems!    I'm so glad you guys convinced me to read it! And I'm so glad that it's so long!

About buying the Dusty books... I feel exactly the same way as what you posted above...  The fic was amazing and even though there aren't many differences in the published version I gladly gave them my money.  I'm hoping that it takes off like some of the other popular published fics did!  I'm recommending it to all my reader friends... well, that is unless they have kids in high school and then I'm telling them to wait a while before reading it. LOL

I have not! I'm not sure why it takes me that bit longer to read Yellowglue's stuff but it always does....her sentence structure takes work, it is not unusual for me to have to read a sentence twice to get the gist....but I'm loving it, Dusty is just....the best; still tugs at my heart and leaves a heavy weight in my stomach...shoot, in the dictionary under the word angst there should just have the word Dusty as its explanation, I'd completely forgotten what real angst reads like...

ADoW has got to be one of the best series of books I've read this year, hands down. Glad you're loving it Kimmy.

While we are still on the subject of original fanfic as opposed to published book, has anyone been on Robsessed lately - for something other than pictures of Rob? (I know - what other reason would one be on Robsessed if it wasn't for Rob).  In honor of Robsessed sixth birthday, they are offering six copies of Christina Laurens' (the Office turned into Beautiful Bastard series) new YA novel Sublime.  Read the description of the book and tell me it doesn't have shades of New Moon with a role reversal.  See link below - the info on the book is about halfway down the page.  and why is Rob in LA?  He's supposed to be in Toronto.  Still has the 'stache.

So I've stepped back in time and read an older ff called A Little Crazy by lolashoes and tby789.  It's not very long, but it's sweet and well-written.  And Demaris, Edward has a PA.  Some time ago, someone was looking for a doctors without borders type story.  I don't remember who it was, but this story would fit within that category.  Not on ffn, but in the Index.

I bolded the part that means the most to me. Why in the hell would I pay money for something if they only changed the names and locations? I can read the same thing here, for free. If they put in the effort and actually EDIT the thing, then I'm more willing to shell out the dough, IF enough people that I trust let me know there have been significant improvements. Unfortunately, that very rarely happens, usually it's just a basic name and location change.
See,  one of the things that bothers me is that you can't "donate" to an author if you really liked their story. I don't mind paying for stuff I enjoy. I'm no longer a poor student. So I'm all for the give back where you get something of value.  And? There aren't a lot I would pay for. But there are a few. So I have bought books from authors I liked who published stuff.

But I also understand what you are saying. I sure as heck am not paying for a not so great story that just had the names changed. :P

I read some fanfics that were original fiction first, but the author changed them to twilight fanfic in order to get a bigger audience (only there were a few names she forgot to change, which was confusing at first) but I still enjoyed reading them.
I saw one yesterday. I was looking for a pulled fic for someone on FB.  This was a new story by the same author. Historical viking type. She didn't even change the names. She writes in the first AN Torik is Edward and Elsie is Bella. I looked at her bio?  She has a long list of favorite movies and books. None of which are Twilight. My thought is she called it a Twilight story so she can get a bigger audience.

I won't rec it because I haven't read it and it is a WIP.

  • Life is all about balance.
Just got this email notification:

TWCS Library is moving on Tuesday 28 October 2014!!!.

The Library is getting its own domain separate from the publishing house. We have grown tremendously in the last year and we now need our own home. This change will take place with little impact to users. There will simply be a 24-48 hour period where authors will not be able to post new stories or chapter updates. ALL CURRENT CONTENT WILL STILL BE ACCESSIBLE FOR READING!! Updates just will not happen. Once we get everything transferred to the new domain, you will need to update any bookmarks or links you have for TWCS Library. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we make this move. There are going to be some other wonderful changes coming soon.  We will announce them on the TWCS Library News Page and on our Facebook group (You are not allowed to view links. You know addicted to PTS when the first thing you think is I've so gotta tell my lovelies on there about this, as it'll probably make them laugh.  :D
This is what I was like this weekend while I was away.  ^-^ ^-^

Me and the hubby were up country as the hubby was asked to talk at a convention.
Anyhoo, the hubby gave me the job to tell the receptionist when leaving that we had "noticed" several stains on the carpet in the hallway of the floor we were staying on.
I can't lie to save my life and it turns out that when the hubby is watching me try to lie I'm even worse.
He was just standing there laughing so much I thought he was gonna choke or p*ss himself.  :P :P
After we left the hubby turned to me and said "I seriously thought you were gonna use your "go-to" lie of blaming it on a badger or a squirrel!"  :o :o :D :D

So it turns out that we can't go anywhere without trying to wreck the place and trying to get away with it.  ^-^ :D :D

Hope everyone has had/having a good weekend.  :)

I'm surprised that you've not finished yet but I totally understand why. I've gotta re-read some sentences/paragraph a couple times just to get the gist.

There was a little something that did disappointment a little bit about Delinquents:

I agree with you hun about the Dusty being in the dictionary's description for angst but I reckon that TPW has gotta share that title in the dictionary as well. :D :D

I've finished! Sorry not been able to get online as much, this would be the weekend where PA decides he wanted us to go down and check on his house by to the coast, wouldn't ?! Storm damage, whatever! :D  Inconsiderate so and so! Anyway I chased him off to visit some friends and sat down to the business of Dusty.

But I enjoyed it and I  cried like a baby (again) now though I'm back in that Dusty bubble which I worked so hard to get out of last time; for fook sake! The published version will never replace the original in my heart, but I'm glad I bought it and read it.

How inconsiderate of Mr PA, he should know better.  :D :D
I gotta agree with you hun about those edits you mentioned but it still doesn't  stop my love for Dusty, I think anyone whose read both would agree with you hun that the fic is (slightly) better but that still doesn't take anything away from the published version.  :)

BTW, loving the new avi hun.  :word: :word:

Decided to dip my toe back into the murky water which is FF by reading You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, I thought I should start back with a bit of abused Bella and angst (you, know a bit of light reading  :P) .  >:D >:D  :D :D

So frustrated today. Im on the road and my email won't update on my phone. Finally just came straight here to see if anyone posted.

Damn Loopy, if I had sex in the hallway, everybody would know from all the tripping and landing against the walls and doors.  Only that would be us trying to get into position.  Even sober I can't stand up straight LOL!   And my hubby isn't strong like yours.  *looks slightly jealous*
