Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

THat old, huh?  I was wondering why they weren't popping up on Amazon!

Let me look around tomorrow and get back to you. When I first started reading ebooks, I downloaded a HUGE batch of romance novels from a torrent site, I think Mcnaught's books where in there. I'm not sure about formatting, I think they were scans or something, but I'll see what I have. No promises though!

demaris - just a heads up - if you want to read InDeath fanfic, you better go over to InDeath.net and save to your kindle or whatever - both current fanfic and in the archives.  Nora has ordered us to take it down.  She is having issues and doesn't like what people are writing - so no more fanfic.   Current fanfic is in the banner at the top of the index and the fanfic archives can be found toward the bottom of the index in the fanfic forum.   Not sure what her problem is - probably a hold over from her Facebook page - she's discovering she can't control the internet which isn't making her happy - the fanfic she can make go away -  however if she thinks she can come in and control what people think or say on the forums, she's going to have a fight on her hands.

Can she do that? It doesn't seem like she should be able to.

She owns the copyright,  so yes she can do it.

Though it seems like a real stupid and short-sighted thing to do since fanfic rarely takes away from the original and usually keeps readers interested between books.  :-\

I can't wait to hear what you think of V&V! I have had it on my TBR list forever.   I think its one of the most liked fics out there.

I had Guns N Roses and Bon Jovi I think!  I always wonder how close we are all in age...   I was in high school in the late 80s.

It has been put on pause... I had to check out Beneath the Burn.. I can't put it down!!!!!!!!!!

I was all about NKOTB, random cheesiness, and shirtless hunk posters. :)
I was in high school mid-late 90's. :)

She's being a control freak - worse than usual.  Her complaint was that we weren't moderating the fanfic properly going by our own rules on what people could or couldn't write - like no slash.   She was looking for a reason to get rid of the fanfic (and yes we agree that it was/is shortsighted).  Some nimrod who hadn't updated her fic in at least 5 years suddenly decided to add a chapter to her archived fic - caught us all by surprise.   Nora (or more probably her assistant Laura) found it and raised hell because it violated our rules and we weren't moderating as promised.   The damned thing had been dead and abandoned for the last 5 years - there was no reason to pay attention to it.  Some days you just can't win.

Nora Roberts' InDeath series with her writing as J D Robb - Lt. Eva Dallas of the New York Police and Security Dept. and her billionaire husband Roarke in the year 2061.   InDeath.net was the only site on the internet that had InDeath fan fic and Nora tolerated it - claimed it didn't bother her.  For some reason she changed her mind.   Its going to work against her in some small ways.  Every year we as a site celebrate our anniversary in May and we have a blog a thon and raise money for the site and Nora's pet project on literacy.   We can't do the blog a thon anymore because it counts as fan fiction.  Didn't think that one through did you Nora?

Wow! Thanks for telling me Ruth. I'm not planning on reading any In.Death FF, Twifics are barely holding my interest as it is....but Nora Roberts is one crazy lady! I almost wish you hadn't told me what a Beetch she is as, I can't lie, it influences slightly how I read her stories.... :(

To look at it another way demaris - I had someone on the site pm me this week with her thoughts on the subject - she works in the Long Term Care field and she said that going by Nora's outbursts on her Facebook page that she's exhibiting early signs of dementia (and considering what my family has been going thru with my dad and his Alzheimer's - she may not be far off the mark).

Quote
I am wondering if this is the beginning of the end. Her publisher can't be happy with all of this negativity, all the pissed off fans can't be good. Her writing is good, her imagination is wonderful, but her fans make or break her. I understand that the pressure has to be enormous but her fans shouldn't be the outlet for that pressure. If it is Laura, then she needs to quit stirring the pot before she works herself out of a job.

Just a thought that I had. Beginning dementia can manifest itself like this, needing control because you are losing control in other areas, anger flare ups, frustration and acting out of character. Maybe I am reading way too much into the Facebook thing, but that is where my mind went as I read the trainwreck of the posts. Again I work in the long term care community so my  mind goes there a alot. Other reasons could be simple as a problem with her marriage, a problem with her kids, or as you guys suggested, a mental health problem.

And then there was this which popped up on one of our Moderator forum threads which maybe lends some weight to the above:
Its a moderator reporting what one of our long term members got told by someone who knew Nora:

Quote

I talked to a member of the WRWA recently, and she said that Nora wasn't her usual self this year. She stated that in past years, Nora's hair and make up were perfect. This year, her hair needed to be cut and styled, and she had a lot of gray in it. She also said, Nora wasn't wearing make up, and wondered what was going on with Nora. She didn't get a chance to talk to her, and was very concerned.

So now I'm wondering if there really is something going on with her. :dunno:

Teresa also has noticed how nitpicky Nora/Laura have been around here and her observation is that since adwoff is no more, maybe they feel like they have to turn the "control" onto us. Which we kind of already figured out.

So - anyway something is going on but we aren't sure exactly what.

MY GR "read" list is falling fast, due to all the fanfic authors getting their fic listings removed from GR.

Thank goodness I backed up my reviews to Booklikes!

Was surprised with that one bec it said i only read 7 this entire year  ;D Guess they just meant those books that you marked "want to read" and actually read. Have stopped pressing "want to read" since last year bec i get anxious when i see the growing number of my TBR books.  :-\ My friends in GR probably get an alert only when i rate a book, which i do after i finish reading the book. Though am happy to see the alerts on what books my friends added to their TBR bookshelves. Gives me ideas on what to read next.  :)

Am I the only one that can't stand Bella having an internal dialogue with her "cooch"?  I'm reading a story that would be so much better without this stupid "conversation".  Why do authors think this is entertaining?
