Hi Everybody
« on: May 18, 2012, 06:27 AM »
Well, I've just relised that I've been a member of this forum for about a month now, and I haven't even bothered to introduce myself.  I know, I know how rude of me?

Well, better late than never!

Hi, I'm DarkGuyver and I'm an alcoholic.... HAHAHA just kidding.  I thought I would add a little humour to my introduction.

DarkGuyver, as some of you will probably relise from my screen name, I am a fan of the Guyver anime/manga francise.

I found this forum, while searching for more Tess Gerritsen (yes, I watch Rizzoli & Isles) eBooks for my Sony PRS-350 eReader, which I got a couple of months ago.  But found a surprisingly large amount of books for my eReader, which I am honestly thankfull for.

Besides reading, I like watchin action, sci-fi, thriller movies and TV shows.  I'm a martial artist, I'm a 3rd degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, and I currently study Lin Kuei martial arts (a Chinese martial art, which is the ancester of Japanese Ninjitsu).  I'm a videogamer, I'm a fan of Street Fighter, Bayonetta, God Of War, Soul Calibur, House Of The Dead, and the Need For Speed games (in particular the Underground series, and Most Wanted).

I'm very knowledgable about computers so if you have any questions about computers or computer related problems post a topic and I will see what I can do for ya.  I'm also a technology nut, so any related technology discuss are game.

I hope to meet some new friends here and share some of my collection of eBooks which may be of interest to others.

Video game, interesting...I'm developing a game application for my Dissertation.
It's quite bulky, every lil' details must be addressed.
Tallia, in a few days I'm presenting my software to the examiner and the companies attending, wish me luck!

Best of luck to you, Viidhz and I hope you will be able to get a career within the games industry.  I currently trying to get a job as a games tester as I have heard that it is a excellent starting point for those with no programming experience/knowledge to get into the games industry.

Actually, Filouke has taken really good care of since I've been made a member of this forum.  Which is quite a change from the other topic based forums, which I am a member of.

That's good  :) but I asked you before but you didn't answer, what kind of mythological books do you read? I'm in to mythological stuff, so I pretty much read every book I can find about gods/godesses and myth....

Sorry, must have skipped over that your reply. The discussions on this forum are really fast pace when compared to the other forums, which I am a member off.

I like to learn about the mythologies of different countries and not just the ones which are tied to the UK (where I currently reside).  My interest in mythology started with Greek mythology, I found a book about Greek Mythology in my high school library.  That was what intially sparked my interest in mythology to begin with.

I read allot of supernatural reference books, which are basically mythological reference books as they fall into the same category.

I tend just to take screenshots from videos, or picture of the net.  Then cut and resize them for avatars.  My avatar right now is the Guyver II from the Guyver anime/manga francise.  It is actually a bad guy, who was killed in the second episode of the 1990s OVA Guyver - Bio Booster Armor.  But I liked the way his face looked when compared to the other 2 Guyvers.

Check out a scene from the anime:

Yeah, I like to learn about myhologies of different countries too. Right now I'm more into Roman, Slavic and Hawaiian mythology. I live in Norway, so I learned about Norse mythology in 5th grade

Excellent, it's good to meet somebody who shares one of my interests.  But I do find that the Roman mythology is way too similar to Greek Mythology

I haven't read much on Hawaiian or Slavic mythology.  It's hard to find books on those where I'm living at the moment.

That is cool, I would have loved to learn about mythology during my primary school education.  But all I got were lessons in Christianity, which is OK.  But my dad is basically a religious fanatic, he is a Protestant.

I remember one time when I was watching the Da Vinci Code, he started lecturing how they had gotten it all wrong.  That there was no way that Jesus had a wife.  What a headache I had that day...  >:(

Yeah that's true, Roman and Greek has nearly the same gods/godesses and myth but with different names.
And I've been studying in different countrys a year ago, so I it was easy to get history lessons about Slavic and Hawaiian mythology  ;)

I know how you feel...my father was studying different religions when he was young, so everytime we see anything that has to do with Jewish, Christianity and Islam he has to comment them..."That is so wrong, who does this man think he is? go study and then come with true facts you old fool, before you say it's true" I have to listen to that on every documentary about religion...

Hello,

I love mythology, religion's History etc

So I couln't help butting in

Did you read Mircea Eliade's History of religious ideia?

And the similarity we find in Roman/greek are, I'm sure you know (being Mythology fans) is called religious syncretism.

For those who don't know: it's more an absorbtive cultural phenomenon between 2 religion/beliefs etc more often than not contradictory
That's why although we have diferent name for the "same" deity, said deity have diferent characteristics according to the places they were worshiped.

The strangeness of the roman/greek are that the conquerors adapted their religion& philosophy & not the other way around... but then again it's the second religion that have to adapt to the first as the people don't give up their belief just because some conqueror says so.

That's why most christian hollydays are on the same date as pagans, to adapt and overcome the previous religions.

Well, I'll shut up now ok?

I hope you are enjoyng yourselves, see you around...

No, I haven't read that book.

But it is true that the Romans did based their mythology on the Greeks, which is strange considering the fact that at the time the Roman's were of the Catholic.

The reason why Christian holidays are the same as the pagans is that they did this when Christianity was established as the predominent religion of the western world.  So that early pagans who haven't converted to Christianity wouldn't be presecuted.

try it! Kuroshitsuji is about an akuma or demon that serves as a Butler to a young Earl in England. It's cool. Definitely a must read. :) Dengeki Daisy would make you laugh. But in the middle part of that manga, I don't know. I kind of lost in the explanation of what happened to some bits. Hahaha. But I guess, I'm just slow in comprehending it. :)

I've read the synopsis!! but still haven't read it, the one that I tried to read lately is Pandora Hearts..
don't worry, it's on my-read-list xDD
and as for Dengeki Daisy, I've read it for 1-2 chapters but then I was not sure to continue it :(
just like Kimi no Todoke. Have you ever heard about it?

HII Fera!  :)

Nice to meet you here!

My favorite writers of historical romance are Judith McNaught (Westmoreland Series)  and Lisa Kleypas (The Hathaways and Wallflowers series) :) well, I am new at this genre so as far they are the best :) maybe I'll discover others later. :)

You like them too? and which is yours?

Yes, languages are easy for me fortunately! you see I am a translator :) my native language is Georgian (Georgia is a small county in Caucasus) it is one of the oldest language in the world :) and has it unique alphabet, in my introduction I wrote greeting in Georgian :) too. Russian was the second language in my country because we are neighbors and not the best ones :))) but still know the languages! English was my major language at University and as second I chose Dutch. Later I started learning Spanish as my third language when doing master in Brussels. That is the sort story of my languages! oh, and Now I am thinking to learn Persian,  >:D of course if I find time!
