Fear the Walking Dead
« on: August 02, 2015, 08:48 AM »
All of us Walking Dead fans may have a reason to get happy real soon with the up coming premier of the limited series, Fear the Walking Dead. I am so stoked about this show because I always have withdrawls after the Walking Dead season finales and the loooong wait for the new season to begin .I've been scouring the 'net trying to find every little morsel pertaining to this amc original and here's what I've been able to find. Firstly, it will premier August 23 at 9/8c. It is a prequel to The Walking Dead, so we will find out the origins of the Walker virus (finally? maybe?) There will be 15 episodes. The first episode will be 90 lovely minutes! (yay) It will take place in Los Angeles. Big city, big body count, lots of Walker mayhem ensues! The cast is more diverse than The Walking Dead cast, with Latino actors being the main characters. It will focus on 3 different families: The Clarks', the Salazars'  and the Manawas' . CHARACTER BIOS: Daniel Salazar, his wife Griselda and their daughter Ofelia. Daniel is a barber and Griselda is very religious. They are from El Salvador. Daniel will be played by Ruben Blades. I am very interested to see how a very religious person reacts to the Walkers. Madison, Nick and Alicia are the Travis family members. Madison is a guidance counselor at El Sereno High School. Nick and Alicia are her children and attend El Sereno High. Nick has a drug problem while his sister, Alicia is considered a good girl. The Manawas are Travis Liza and Chris. Travis is a high school English teacher and engaged to Madison Travis. He is portrayed by Cliff Curtis. I know there is probably a lot I missed but I just wanted to cover the basics for now. So, will you be watching Fear the Walking Dead when it premieres Aug. 23? What are your expectations for the 15 part series? I for one... CANNOT WAIT!! >:D

I am with you there, and it has the added bonus of Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis in it as well,  Have always adored him  ( except for in the role of Uncle Bully in Once Were Warriors, that was too realistic)

Guess we will be downloading as only on pay for view channel here.
I am not a complete idiot, some parts are missing    :)

A little bit of a slow start, but i am guessing that any outbreak would be slow starting..  I think it has set the stage for the series, we have gotten to know the family ( shame we don;t know his family yet, and I think I would have phoned my ownson first after that video went viral)

I know cavey, it was a bit slow starting and dragged some in the middle, but I liked it. Knowing that this is a limited 12 part series, it really needs to pick up or people will be disappointed and lose interest real quick. I hate that we only get the first 6 episodes then a long break for the final six to air :'(. I read somewhere that we won't even find out what caused the outbreak. I thought that was one of the main reasons for Fear the Walking Dead, to answer some of the questions of The Walking Dead. But nope, Kirkmann and the others decided that wasn't important for the series. I sure hope this doesn't turn into some filler to hold us Walking Dead fans over till the new season starts. But this being the first episode I'm holding full judgement till at least episode 3 (lol).

Husband and I have cleared out schedules for the evening,  We are going to settle in and watch, with hope for it getting better.   I am pleased they have Cliff Curtis playing a Maori this time, instead of some one from the Middle East or some other place.

So will let you know my thoughts tomorrow ( should I be in the vicinity of a Computer)    I am acting as A court Crier at the moment as we are short staffed,  and the Crier has no computer.  I just read a couple or three books per day.....  Oooops,, probably should not have said that out loud.  Mind you, it is not as if the Judges don't know.

I hate to say it cavey, but I'm not loving this show. I understand this is the beginning of the virus and people aren't really sure what's going on, but jeez everyone's doing really stupid stuff, like splitting up and when Madison confronted zombie Artie ( principal) I was like really?! The really vague notion to go "to the desert" and wait it out? Really?! They didn't even say where, just the desert oh and detox my drug addicted kid while we're at it (lol). The daughter wanting to stay with the boyfriend that was turning, I was like please do, I'm not caring about these people. That's the problem. I don't care if they get turned. Everyone is just so annoying. Unlike The Walking Dead, I care about what happens to Rick and the gang. Is it just me, am I being to critical of this show? I will continue to watch, only 4 episodes left before it goes on break, but I am not sure I will want to watch the second season. :'(

I re-watched it, and decided that I do like it.  The daughter of course was going to want to stay with boyfriend, afterall, no-one has bothered to tell her what is going on, so she has no idea.   I was ad at the leaving of Tristan ( or whatever the poodgy kid is called)  She Should have taken hi as well, and they should have taken that bus, and all the stored food.

As for the Son,  Yes, I sort of want to drop him off a tall building,  but then I looked at my sons and thought, no, I would move heaven and earth t make sure they were safe.  But I wold not waid for the others,  I would have devised a meeting palce and started off towards there.

I also would have swung by somewhere that sold guns/ammo and rather large machetes, on long handles, then the supermarket

Yes, I agree with u, cavey. I too would have gotten extra food and weapons and ammo I also would have insisted the chubby kid from the school come along with me. He seems to know waaaay more than the adults around him and there is strength in numbers. But that's another one of my peeves about this show, noone is using common sense, sure they don't know what's going on but they had just seen their kid's drug dealer friend get up after getting shot and run over by a car multiple times! I hate they aren't telling the daughter anything either. Leaving her in the dark like that is super dangerous.

I have to ask, Because I find that Hubby and I do this, we look at something and thing, nope, zombies would get through that or , wow, that would be a safe place in a zombie outbreak.

I know our Capital ( Wellington) ran a Civil defence day a few years ago, and did it on a zombie outbreak.  As they said, it made it fun, and a zombie outbreak covered so much in civil defence.

You guys are not alone in your thinking, I find myself sometimes thinking, that person would not last in a zombie apocalypse, or that place would be overrun so fast its not even funny (lol). I guess us Walking Dead fans are a special breed of people! I have bottled water, can goods and such in my basement that I tell people is for if storms come and knock out the power but Im secretly prepare for a zombie invasion...  :D  :o

Because I am the Exhibits Officer for the High Court at Auckland,  I also make sure that I group exhibits together that could be of help in an apocalypse  ( machettes, guns, knives etc....)  lol

Oh, No.   Labour day in America, so no fear the walking dead.   I raced home from work  ( well, as fast as the traffic would allow)  Made dinner scoffed that, did a load of washing, folded some washing, did the dishes,  changed into Jammies and settled down to watch it.  Only it is a repeat of episode 1 and 2, as the rest of the world misses out because of your labour day...  ( Sulking for the rest of the night now)

Hey! You and your hubby watch a lot of the same shows as me and my boyfriend! :) :) We also used to watch Spartacus and Deadwood when they were on. Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy were also favorites. He got me the series Rome for my bday and I loved that too. :P
