Female Fronted Rock Bands
« on: January 16, 2012, 11:57 AM »
So this is something that's immensely bugged me for a long time:

I used to work at this one place and there I met this guy who was a big metal fan, he listened to all that good stuff and we would be allowed to listen to music in the back while doing dishes and I was back there one night and I like anything and everything but mostly I enjoy bands like Lacuna Coil, In This Moment, Nightwish, Paramore, and other bands like that. So I was listening to one of them that night and he comes back and just laughs at my music, so I look at him like what's up. And with the most serious look on his face, he looks at me and says, "Females don't belong in rock music." It bugged me because these women in these groups are so amazing and have such powerful voices.

So I wanna know what you think?

No offense, but he sounds closed-minded and wrong.

I love Halestorm... and the lead singer (Lzzy Hale) is a beast of a singer/performer... you cannot deny it without being a liar.

Yea, I didn't agree with him at all. I just think that women have come so far and for someone to say something like that is so pig-headed. So other than Halestorm, what others do you listen to?

He was being very sexist and annoying.

Flyleaf, The Cardigans & Evanescence are a few of my favorites. Love Paramore

Avril Lavigne isn't really in a 'band' but I liked her older music. For some reason she's sort of annoying now.  ???

I agree that Flyleaf is one of the better bands I've heard. I mostly love to listen to everything. Any kind of genre of music is amazing and after that day that he told me that I would listen to each genre and I asked myself what's so different about the rock genre that women simply can't be apart of it. They sing in every genre so what makes rock different?

Maybe he thought rock was a more hardcore/masculine genre. But it was still rude to say something like that. It's like us saying men shouldn't write. But in truth they can be just as powerful and emotional as women.
There's no need for that. Women have been discriminated against enough in the past. (With writing, too)

"Females don't belong in rock music." is really a close-minded statement.
There are many talented Female Fronted Rock Bands!!!
I also love Paramore, Nightwish (old one with Tarja), The Pretty Reckless and Joan Jett!

Maybe not in Extreme Metal genres like Black/Death Metal. I'm talking about female vocalists cuz Black/Death Metal usually use growling vocals. Even then there's Angela Gossow from "Arch Enemy" (melodeath band).
There are also many talented female guitarists, bassists and drummers!!!

Make him listen to this band! She's my favorite female singer and bassist!

People sometimes tend to be a little close minded on some topics...guess we have to show them that what they think isn't always true..

One of my favorite bands are
Epica
Within Temptation
Evanescence

All have female vocalist and the sound is great...  >:D
