Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
« on: January 13, 2012, 10:55 PM »
The province of Skyrim might be frigid, but the role-playing game that takes place within it burns with a fire few games possess. In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you take up arms against dragons, and your encounters with them are invariably exciting--yet depending on where your adventure takes you, such battles may not even represent the pinnacle of your experience. A side quest that starts as a momentary distraction may turn into a full-fledged tale that could form the entirety of a less ambitious game. Yes, Skyrim is another enormous fantasy RPG from a developer that specializes in them, and it could suck up hundreds of hours of your time as you inspect each nook and crevasse for the secrets to be found within. If you know Bethesda Softworks' previous games, you might be unsurprised that Skyrim is not a land without blemish, but rather harbors any number of technical glitches and frustrating idiosyncrasies that tear open the icy veil that blankets the land. Many of them are ones Elder Scrolls fans will probably see coming, but they're ultimately a low price to pay for the wonders of a game this sprawling and enthralling. Prepare for many sleepless nights to come.

Advantages:
Immense world stuffed with varied tasks to perform
Dragon battles are a blast
Lovely art design capped by some beautiful, atmospheric touches
Enjoyable battles that you can approach in a variety of ways
Lots of compelling, self-contained stories to experience in addition to the main one.

Disadvantages:
Glitches and bugs frequently disrupt the immersion
Friendly AI is often more of a hindrance than a help.

I haven't played Skyrim.....not a big fan of RPG's but I recently bought the game Dark Souls and LOVE it!

I've watched my bf play Skyrim and I must say it looks too vast and never-ending for me, sure the dragons were cool but the rest doesn't seem that great to me. (I like to just run around and kill things- I don't like having specific missions I have to do)

Skyrim has a countless amount of quests beside the main quest. It never ends actually , I remember from Oblivion that you can play it for 2-3 years and everytime discover something completely new.Actually you follow the main quest if you want to , you can roam Skyrim for as long as you want , exploring caves and helping people or killing them depending on what you want your charracter to be.

I'm more of a shooter/action-adventure gamer (Call of Duty, Dark Souls, Dante's Inferno, Castlevania.....)

Eh, that's precisely why I like RPGs! All those new worlds, all the exploration! Dark Souls hmm, that's familiar, but I can't quite remember the game. :S
And eh, Jess, Skyrim is huge okay, but no game in the series has a larger/more complex world than Morrowind!

If you haven't played Dark Souls you should (and you'd remember if you did)- their motto is: "Prepare to die....a lot" and boy do you! It can be frustrating but at the same time you get a ginormous feeling of achievement when you actually accomplish something!

Isn't that game where you can't save? Until you reach a certain safe point or something? :S

Leave c.o.d. for Battlefield 3 , its much much more fun but i have to admit it doesnt have such a nice storyline as c.o.d. but the destructible enviroment makes everything so realistic , not to mention the vehichles which you can drive and the huge number of unlocks :)

Yes....it takes the game to a whole new difficulty level but it has one of the best new gaming features. You can interact with other members over the internet via an in-game messaging system that allows you to "write" tips and warnings into the surrounding environment.

I'm not a big fan of Battlefield- I LOVE Call of Duty. It's much more fast-paced. I don't like having to look out for vehicles or snipers hiding in trees up on top of hills- yes, I'll admit CoD is FULL of campers but they're easier to find ;)
