Adobe Digital Editions With Windows 8.1 Update
« on: October 20, 2013, 04:11 PM »
Hey y'all,

I have been using Windows 8 on my PC since it came out. I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update yesterday and now Adobe Digital Editions will not open at all on my computer.  I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem.  Adobe's website was of no help what-so-ever.  >:(

I would suggest to uninstall ADE and install it again.

I think it was just a glitch. ADE started working randomly after I restarted my computer for the millionth time.  I had so many issues with the 8.1 update that ADE not working wound up being the least stressful lol. At one point I couldn't get my keyboard to work and my computer is password protected at start up... :33:

In that case I would recommend you restoring your computer to it default factory settings, then reinstall the update from Windows 8 to 8.1 and afterwards reinstall Adobe Digital Editions.  That should fix all your problems.

After 2 days of fighting with the computer, I had done everything besides that, saving that as a last resort. I went to bed that night with the intentions of spending the next day doing the factory reset and reinstalling everything. I woke up the following morning, turned on the computer and everything worked as normal.  I felt like I had lost my mind hahaha. It's been a few weeks now and everything is still working without a problem.

Looks like the gremlins have finally stopped messing with your tech!  :D :D :D  Glad your system is running like it use to.  I would do an antivirus and malware scan just incase.  Sounds like you may have been infected with some kinda timed virus, designed to lock you out of your system for a designated amount of time.

I thought that too, but the scans kept coming back clean. Haha, I was kinda hoping a virus or something would be found just so I'd have a reason for all the odd behavior.  Looks like it definitely was a case of the gremlins.  :D :D

I'm going to have to see if any of the Gremlins movies are available on Netflix so I can gather intelligence. Gotta build up my defense.  ;)

I had some problems too and had to update all the drivers.
i removed the password at start up by switching my microsoft account to the local one .
i hated it, it looks that microsoft wants to control everything in my pc with 8.1.

i hope this helps  :)

Yeah, I've heard horror stories about Windows 8 since day 1 of it's retail release.  My best piece of advice get a Windows 7 system instead.
