DG? You ever hear of PaleMoon?
« on: March 19, 2013, 08:45 PM »
It's based off of FF.
Wotan was talking about it on ABE.  He uses it.

I've never seen it.  Wondered if you heard anything about it.

Installed.  I am impressed and that's hard to do.

I might like this better than Iron.

Honestly, I've never heard of Palemoon.  I will take a look at it and see how it handles.  At present FF appears to be kinda bloated due to the addtion of the plugin-container which runs allong side it, which hands all the plugin content while the actual FF browser just displays the webcontent.

The container doesn't seem to run with this.  It loads extremely fast. I think it might be out my Iron and I picked that for speed.

I'm running my Ghostery, DNT, and a couple others but they haven't seemed to effect the speed at all and I don't have to sit and wait for them which I do in FF and sometimes on Iron.

It seems to handle anything that you can add from  FF to it nicely so far.

My net laptop is over 6 years old, and I only use it for net access.  While I use my HP Probook 4520S for all my offline work.

It's about the same age as the Acer Laptop then.
It runs on the Acer just fine.  It's an XP sp3.
And the Acer really needs formatted and XP reinstalled.  It hasn't been fixed in all that time.  The wife had it and she had some really bad habits with it.  Corrupted a few things.

Yeah, my net laptop (Acer Travelmate 2310) is basically a business grade laptop.  I brought it for net access only as I have a games console which I use to play all my games online.  Anyhow it's starting to show it's age now, I really should replace it with something else.  But I cann't be bothered hunting down XP drivers for another laptop.  :(

I tried Palemoon on my net laptop eariler today, and it seems to run even slower than FF.  Don't know why...  ???  But I guess it maybe due to the hardware limitations on my net laptop.  8)

That's a shame.  I've been pretty much using it all the time right now.

It's flying for me on these.

I tend to run stripped out tho.  Not sure if that is a factor for you.  Nothing runs but the program I am running.  I get rid of all the useless services they seem to think we HAVE to have...
Have I said I hate MS lately?

Yeah, I tend to have 2 programs running at the same time when I'm online as I'm always downloading or seeding something.

Yeah, I hate MS too lately.  Windows 8 sucks b@!!$  I wished they would keep the lifeline with WinXP

MS beyond sucks...

That's why I am looking at Ubuntu when I can't buy a computer with XP on it anymore.
Walmart still sells reconditioned computers with XP on them.  When they stop, it will be a Ubutntu world.  The Walmart.com XPs are dirt cheap too.

Yeah, I'm considering getting a refurbished laptop running XP when my net laptop dies.  But even the refurbished ones are pretty damn expensive if the tech specs are high.  Shame Walmart doesn't exist in the UK  :(

I was looking at one on Wally that has a nice healthy large hard drive and the other parts are good.  Not top of the line but good.  The only thing lacking is RAM.  It's a desktop so it won't take anything to rip it open and shove a healthy amount in it since RAM is dirt cheap these days.  It's 150 US Dollars so it looks like what I am going to  go with next.

I have  about 3 old hard drives with a good amount of memory  I  can plug into it also plus an external DVD/CD R/W I can use along with the DVD that comes with it.

I've also got a nice size case which has a lot of room on the inside if I need to move everything to there.

Well, I wish you the best of luck in finding one.  You will probably have an easier time finding a professionally refurbished XP system than I do.  :(

I have to be dirt cheap.  I just got thru paying 15% inheritance tax on everything I own last year.  I'm broke unless I sell stuff. :D

Isn't it?
Darn thing about paychecks. They come in handy but they are so annoying without them.

At least everything is paid for.  So it's handle what is coming not playing catch up.

I use Pay As You Go by ATT phones.  It's 2 bucks a day when I use the phone but all text and calls in the US are free for that 24 hours.

When I went to get my new phone, I picked the one I wanted and when it said they were having problems on the ATT site's order status,  I called them.  It turned out it was a regular contract phone but I didn't WANT a contract phone.  She said "We can't find a credit record for you."  Told her she wouldn't  everything is paid for from my house to the Jeep and I pay cash.  I use NO credit.  I also told her I thought it was a Pay/Go phone because it was labeled that.  She said "Oh no.. That should be labeled that."  Told them I didn't want the phone because I didn't deal with credit or contracts it was a cash deal with me.

I ended up getting a better phone [reconditioned but still a higher end one] for 25 bucks.  When I looked it up on the net it was a $300 phone.  It's pay as you go.

I had a very very good teacher in High School Business.  He lived thru the Depression.  His rule he pounded into us was NEVER use Credit unless you are making money from it and never pay for daily essentials with it.  If you have to have credit to live, you are screwed.
