HALF LIFE 2 - Half Life series
Valve
Microsoft Windows, Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Mac OS X

In 1999, Half Life arrived and we were introduced to the silent Gordon Freeman who made sure that the attacking aliens had "their first contact with a crow...bar." It created a turning point in the gaming world for a lot of reasons. Five years later (and even now), it is still a famous game among gamers which compelled Valve to release a sequel (after several expansion packs), Half Life 2. You might wonder what made this 8 year old game special but believe me when I tell you that it has graphics which are not outdated even now. The texture and the design of the game was perfectly smooth and like Half Life, all the different missions are connected to each other without breaks. You can return to a previous level in certain conditions if you desire, although not every area can be returned to easily.
The story of the sequel definitely improved a lot from the original and with the wide range of NPCs introduced, it created several memorable characters. Also, this time, we got to explore a large area instead of just moving around in Black Mesa (which could have swallowed up a metropolitan city, by the way) as we traveled through City 17, beaches, sewers, the prison and the famous Citadel. The music also made sure that you did not lose interest in the game and the difficulty level and the available resources kept making you think if you could try an alternate approach.
In Half Life 2, we also got access to several vehicles, which just enhanced your experience as we ran through the sewers while under fire from a chopper or escaping Ant Lions while running on the beach.
Then of course, Half Life 2 introduced one of the most powerful weapons ever, the Gravity Gun (or Zero Point Energy Manipulator). If you have the right imagination, then there is no doubt that you can make every single one of your enemies run for their lives (which they never do).
If you haven't played the game, do try it.

I am a hardcore Call of Duty fan through and through...yeah, there's a lot of campers, more glitches than in any other game EVER and yeah, the spawns suck but I'm in it for the guns, the explosions and the people. No where else will you meet people like in an online CoD match... Sure most of them are goddamn assholes but those are my kind of people (totally kidding). I like the sense of team work that you can find- players band together and communicate to reach a common goal. Sure, I've played Halo, Battlefield, Socom, etc but it just isn't the same to me. Battlefield has some great maps but it's mostly a game without interaction and communication, Halo just plain sucks (not the originals, just the newest few) and the rest of them aren't worth even renting.

Other than Halo or Call of Duty, some other titles that come to my mind are Unreal Tournament series (UT3 was cool but not as much as the previous ones), Project IGI series (at least I finished IGI1 and believe me, without the option of saves, it is a huge pain.). I even tried (or should I saw, saw my brother play) Sniper: Ghost Warrior and the game was nice.
UT had a cool range of weapons, maps and vehicles which make sure that even against bots, every fight is going to be unique. Project IGI: I don't know why but I felt intrigued. Again the pain of inability to save in IGI1 and limited number of saves in IGI2 is huge down factor.
Finally, I can remember Delta Force Black Hawk Down as one of the games I played a lot, but unfortunately didn't finish. (My brother played the last stage I was going to play and I didn't get a chance to play again.) It's fun until you get shot. :(

I couldn't agree with you more on that, House Of The Dead is an extremely fun game to play.
