Want to avoid offending authors
« on: February 24, 2013, 06:03 PM »
Hello everybody!
I'm new to the site and read about author's having an 'opt out' option to keep their work from being available on the site (if I understand correctly - no downloads, etc).  Recently, an author that has a page on FB made the case for respecting an author's decision to pull a fic and asked that no trading of such be done on her page.  Really made me think and I'd like to do my best to respect that here as well.  I was looking for a rec'd fic today and realized that I had no idea how to check on the 'status' of an author's work here.  Is there any sort of list or way to look into that on the site or do the moderators handle that aspect?
(I am aware of the argument that once you put something on the internet it's out there forever and it's sometimes a bit ... impossible? naive? to get it back and stop the dissemination, but I can be respectful.  Unless I really, really like it.  >:D)
Thanks so much,

We don't allow any published or copyrighted fiction or nonfiction on here so that isn't a problem.  If you notice someone has posted any books, please let us know immediately so we can remove it.   The opt out was an old policy when the site did allow individuals to share the ebooks they have of published works.  It is no longer in effect because no one is allowed to upload published work. The most you will find is samples of work published by the author like the one for Bev Allen done by her request.

For Facn Fiction, they need to be the author or have the author's permission also since it is unpublished work generally.  Please read the stickies in pink at the top of the Fan Fiction forum
