Any one else NOT like the HUNGER GAMES?
« on: March 19, 2012, 08:39 PM »
I know this isn't a typical review, but I didn't really know where to post this, and I wanted to know if there is anyone out there who disliked the hunger games?.. I read the first book and got in to it, then the story fell short and the last 2 books were such a drag I could barely read them,.. It had potential, but it just went in this weird direction I did not like, (twilight was like this for me, I enjoyed it all up to the 4th book which was horrible and ruined the story with the vampire spawn..but thats another story) I just hate when I read a series that starts out good, and I feel the Author ruined it..

So any one out there who didn't like the hunger games? I think the movie will be better on the book on this and I hate movies.

Hm, depends if you like cliffhangers. First book didn't have serious one, but second book does. *if you call that stuff cliffhanger*
But i mainly liked it even more than the first one, except the third, i felt betrayed reading it (it is like author wanted to finish the book as soon as possible and some stuff were left totally "why-the-hell-did-you-put-that-thing-here-because-it-didn't-have-point-in-the-end-scenes"

I was starting to feel alone on this topic. Nice to know there actually are others that didn't care for the Hunger Games.

I read the first book completely  through before realizing that I disliked it completely. That's a special kind of book indeed if you have to sit and think about if you liked it or not. There were plenty of interesting ideas but the way those ideas were presented just turned me off completely. I think this was the first dystopian book I ever read and I found that I haven't liked dystopian ever since. Or it could be because the main characters were the kind of people I hated. Not that they were poorly written but I hated their personalities; Katniss is soooo thick and Peeta is a friggin stalker.

Since I only read the first book, I wouldn't know if he changes or not but from what I remember, he was all like "You haven't noticed but ever since that one time we met, I've been following you around and watching you for all these years."

Seriously? WTF, YA novels? Do teen girls now get off on psychos and unhealthy weirdos?

I blame Edward. He is the reason why so many think co-dependency is love. It's not love! It's mental illness.

That's the funniest thing I've seen in weeks!  :tearsofjoy:

I have to admit, I liked Twilight when I was in middle school. Heck, I still like it now. No BS. It's not the best book nor is it that well written but it makes for a distracting read that isn't painful to think about.

I can honestly say I like it better than the Hunger Games (YES! I SAID IT! WHAT NOW?) just because I don't outright HATE the characters. Bella is weak-willed and makes bad choices but at least she realizes what's going on around her unlike Katniss who couldn't even tell that Peeta had a obsession with her after all he did. And yes, Edward is just as much as a creepy stalker as Peeta but Edward is a vampire over a hundred years old that lost his mind back when he was reborn and went on a killing spree before; he's expected to be a freak. What is Peeta's excuse?

I suppose I only like it since I read it back before I got a better taste in books and so the book gives off positive vibes to me. I can understand all the hate on Twilight and agree with a lot of it but I still can't help but like it. It's like having a little brother that ticks you off all the time and acts like an idiot; just because you know all of his faults doesn't mean you grow to hate him.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I do dislike Twilight but I still love it. How's that for confusing?

If Peeta was a real person, Katniss's mum would have slapped him with a restraining order already, doesn't matter if he doesn't mean any harm.

The series was exciting to me....up until the point where EVERYONE read it. I also didn't like the ending because Katniss seemed to grow mentally unbalanced. My sister disliked it so much, she didn't even finish the first book.

I didnt like THG. Katniss was the wrong person to tell the story. Her POV was VERY limited. the story could have been so much better if we could get the reaction of friends and foe's alike as the games began.

Good idea mediocre book.

I agree, the books would be a lot more better if it had more POVs, Gale and Peeta would do :)

Didn't like it. I don't get the hype.

Peeta was cringe-worthy. Too cheesy. He was like a housemate in the Big Brother house whose goal is to be in a love team.

There's also no build up in the love story, its hard to connect. And I don't like a heroine who is supposed to be a strong character but will suddenly wail, Katniss' making me weary. Too many character inconsistencies.

I liked the strategies in the games though, a little predictable but decent. I liked Rue's story. For me, that's the best part of the trilogy. Wasn't able to finish the 3rd book since I can't stand the writing anymore.

I really liked the 1st one....I liked the 2nd one less and the third I got bored with and couldn't finish. I really felt like the series went downhill.
