Fifty shades of grey EL Elliot
« on: April 01, 2012, 05:41 PM »
I have just finished reading the trilogy of Fifty Shades of grey and I must say it is maybe the best I have read in a long time . The characters are beautifully presented , and you are able to get into their emotions and feel as they do :)
The story is WOW ... It touches bdsm but in a way it brings a new light into the matter  ... It also gives a lot of ideas to spice up our daily life :) I would recommend it to every woman , it will open your heart and open your mind as well ;) and why not to men as well so they can learn some new tricks :)
After reading these books there was nothing I tried that kept my interest so far :)
Please tell me your opinion too
Hugs all , be happy :)

I just got done reading Fifty Shades myself. I have to say at first I was kind of bummed because it was a one person side of the story. I like to know what every character is thinking. BUT this worked. I liked the emailing back and forth I think that’s what helped with the one sided because it wasn’t her point of view on his emails. I agree with some of these other post; my heart went out to Christian. But it wasn’t just all him; Ana had some issue with herself. somestimes she did get alittle irritating when she wanted to be tough but couldn't back it up when Christian was around, she would buckle. But over all it was a good read. I laughed and cried. Just like everyone else. I didn’t mind the erotic scenes; by the 3rd book you kind of skim over them. But the book was very good. I enjoyed it very much, and couldn’t put it down. I would recommend this book (I actually have to my neighbors LOL)

I loved it! Of course I felt sorry for poor Christian but i'm glad he found Ana, they balance each other nicely. I would love to read more of their story but I don't think they'll be another book.

Tried reading these books after hearing all the hype behind it ... Have to say, could not get into it, did not see what all the fuss was about.  I think I quit reading it after about Chapter 6.  Oh well, on to something else.

I loved this trilogy. I am in dyer need for Christians point of view. I hate the critics who say this book is for people with lame love lives, older bored women, ect. I am 25 and felt these books were more there for a guilty pleasure more than anything else. Recommend it with no hesitation!

I read this story when she was writing it over at fanfiction. Loved it then and now. I like it better with Edward and Bella though lol.

I read it and it wasn't that good really, I think it was overly sensationalized.
I still don't get what made it a best seller.

I feel the same xsaix5. I truly didn't get why people liked this book. I didn't finish the book so my judgement can't be trusted though  ;D

well i finished books 1 and 2 just so that i can really judge it haha it was excruciating, the story isn't that good and no character development.

I also agree with some of the comments above that it seems to be like a twilight fan fiction haha

When I first read it (lots of months ago) I really enjoyed it and so did many others. Then all of a sudden many started hating it. ??? Idk, I know that no everybody will like it but it just amazed me how disgusted many were. Which, I respect their opinions and all but I still gotta say that I still liked the story. Yeah, some parts of it creeped me out  :omg: but, overall, I still enjoyed it :)

I enjoyed this story as well,  I think the emails between Christian and Ana were what made the story. I enjoyed  Bared to you by Sylvia Day much more though.

I agree on all three counts.  It was a nice romance, a little vanilla for the genre, in my opinion, nowhere near as risque as many other BDSM erotica out there, although I would classify this trilogy as more romance.  I mean, the author uses the term down there in reference to her girly bits.  Seriously?  Down there?  I was also annoyed by her prolific use of the term oh my.  Ms. Elliott?  Thesaurus.  Use it.  The emails were quite amusing, and I really enjoyed that addition.  As for the Sylvia Day series in comparison, Bared to You and Reflected in You, I think these are much better written and above and beyond better edited.  All in all, I enjoyed the Fifty trilogy and will watch the movie.  It's not the great work of art that the media and fans try to make it out to be, but it was a time killer by way of reading, which is my favorite way to kill time.   So yeah, my two cents...

Now get off the boy, Buffy.  We're going home.

I agree with that. The thing that really did annoy me was all her "inner goddess" remarks. Those just really annoyed the hell out of me!!  >:( :-[ :021: :banghead:  :sign0135:    :pulling :33:

I thought it was quite interesting. I didn't really know what to expect, but I would've liked to read more from Christian's perspective. I like to see what the two characters are thinking.

i agree. i would also like to read from christian's perspective. He is a very interesting person.

I couldn't really get caught up in the 50 Shades of Grey series but do enjoy BDSM novels from time to time. Try Cherise Sinclair if you want a good read with BDSM elements. I anxiously await her next installment in the Shadowlands series (action and investigation elements into white slavery rescue within the BDSM community). For a good laugh read 50 Shades of Chicken (I read just enough of Grey to get quite a few  ^-^ chuckles out of this cookbook parody- BTW the recipes are really good too).

Oh my! Why do I get the feeling that I am the only one who did not enjoy the book. I finished Fifty Shades of Grey but it's a struggle to do so. I find it utterly ridiculous. I just can't continue reading the second book I tried really hard but I just can't do it.

What can you tell me about Sylvia Day series? Do you reccomend it?

It's similar in that there is a very alpha male/dominant billionaire and his beautiful submissive, but Eva is not the naive virgin that Ana was.

Both Gideon and Eva are flawed, damaged, and strong in their own ways.  It's powerful and a roller-coaster of a relationship but not so heavy in the BDSM.  Their's is just a strong and emotional relationship.  I love it.

Another series that is fantastic but way more into the BDSM (if that's what you're looking for and/or are into) is the "Up in the Air" series by R.K. Lilley, which is also a trilogy and is already complete, whereas the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day still has one more installment due, which will be published June 4, 2013.  I am nearly done with the third book, "Grounded" by R.K. Lilley.  It's so good.
