Book: Carressed by Ice (Psy-Changeling #3) by Nalini Singh
Genre: PRN (paranormal romance with Changelings and Psys)
Published year: 2007
Rating: 5 out of 5 (*****)
The blurb:
Nalini Singh explores new heights of sensuality, returning to the world of the Psy - where two people who know evil intimately must unlock the good within their icy hearts...

As an Arrow, an elite soldier in the Psy Council ranks, Judd Lauren was forced to do terrible things in the name of his people. Now he is a defector, and his dark abilities have made him the most deadly of assassins - cold, pitiless, unfeeling. Until he meets Brenna...

Brenna Shane Kincaid was an innocent before she was abducted - and had her mind violated - by a serial killer. Her sense of evil runs so deep, she fears she could become a killer herself. Then the first dead body is found, victim of a familiar madness. Judd is her only hope, yet her sensual changeling side rebels against the inhuman chill of his personality, even as desire explodes between them. Shocking and raw, their passion is a danger that threatens not only their hearts, but their very lives...

My Review:

“Try it.” A dare.
He stepped forward and her fingertips tingled, claws threatening to release. Oh yeah, she was definitely ready to tangle with Judd Lauren, Man of Ice, and the most beautiful male creature she had ever seen.

Judd and Brenna are one of my favorite couple in the series. Brenna is a strong and great heroine, she’s a fighter. Judd is HOT.

“You’d make mincemeat out of a lesser man. It’s a good thing you belong to me.”

Unlike the other books, in this one the hero isn’t changelling but Psy. When he was in the PsyNet, Judd was a member of the Arrow squad, a special elite force. When his family was sentenced to rehabilitation, to save his nieces, nephew and brother’s lives and wagering on the fact that they at least would spare the kids, Judd defected with them from the PsyNet and sought refuge with the SnowDancers.

“Why do I keep telling you things I swore I’d take to my grave?”
The contact shot electricity through his nerves. “Because you know I’ll always be your shield against the nightmares.”

Brenna is a SnowDancer changeling. In the first book she was kidnaped, savagely tortured and mind raped by a powerful psychopatic Tk Psy. Though she’s going better she isn’t completly healed and against all odds Judd is the person she goes to to find peace or when she needs to talk. Though her persecutor is dead, she isn’t out of the wood. Someone is still after her life.

“You will defeat this as you’ve defeated every other thing he did to you. You are not crippled, not now, not ever.” He’d kill anyone who implied otherwise. “You survived once and you’ll keep spitting in his face by continuing to survive again and again.”

I loved their story. The way Judd let Brenna slip under his guard, the way she fought for them,... It was beautiful and the sex bits were hot.

“Not that one. I’ll accept darling and even baby,” he said, feeling something unclench in his chest at hearing her sound like herself again, “but never honeypie.”
“Babycakes?” She rubbed her face against his chest.
He took a page from Andrew’s book. “Now you’re just being mean.”
She laughed and it was the best sound he’d heard in eternity."

Beside the attempts to Brenna’s live, the developments in the general plot keep going on. Though we had references to him in the previous book, the Ghost officialy enter the game. This book is also the first in the series centered on the SnowDancer Pack.

“Then we fight, Judd.” She dared to place her hand gently on his chest. He flinched but didn’t move away. “We fight until every avenue is closed and then we dig under the roadblocks. Because I am not walking away from us.”
