Review: Dead Series by T.W. Brown

Dead Series by T.W. Brown  :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

If you like zombie books this is a series for you! My Review as given on Goodreads! yeah I am lazy and I copy and pasted! You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Ok let me start by saying I am loving this series! Mr. Brown has captivated me with these lives of the living and the dead. The first four books had me heart broken, surprised by out comes, and riveted for the next story! Apparently we need to expect the unexpected with this author. Which is a refreshing change. I have been appalled at the unfortunate but what could very possibly be a very true outlook on what we as humans are more or should I say less than capable of doing.

Wow! No One is safe in this series. Anything can and has happened! I am actually to heart broken at the moment to read on and see what happens and if it is what I think will happen next.

What I am truly seeing in these books is a very real scenario of what could happen with humanity and the way we think and feel. You are put in these very real situations and are left thinking what if?.....

Again Mr. Brown has gone above and beyond. I can't even begin to say which of these books is my favorite. I can't even say they get better and better because they have all been excellent. I can not wait for the next book

Review: Virginia Henley - Tempted

Virginia Henley - Tempted :star: :star: :star: :star:

Although it lost a star, I had a good time re reading this book. Despite old fashioned words using now and then “Tempted” aged pretty well.

The story is set in Scotland’s borderlands around 1510, during King James IV of Scotland reign. The king wants to unify the Scots and order some of the clans to make wedding alliances. Ramsey “Black Ram” Douglas and “Flaming” Tina Kennedy are chosen for the Douglas-Kennedy alliance and none of them are eager to comply.

We see that in this kind of situation, as a man Ram has much more leverage than Tina and he isn’t afraid of using and stretching it. But Tina is no helpless heroine (and I loved that), she is a feisty beauty who knows how to make the most out of all her feminine assets and she’s also determined to give as much as she gets.

Another thing I loved in this book is its historical accuracy and how Virginia Henley intertwined her romance with the real history.

Review: Down London Road by Samantha Young

Down London Road by Samantha Young :star:

Buddy reading with Dani and Nikki <3

As much as I really liked “On Dublin Street” I couldn’t enjoy “Down London Road”. The writing wasn’t bad but the first part of the book was plain boring, and the second on top of being boring was filled with a succession of dramas and clichés, all things I don't love in a book. It‘s sad to say but I couldn’t connect with or care for the main characters.

I didn’t understand why the author chose Jo as heroine to this sequel because “On Dublin Street” made her all but lovable and her transformation from the bimbo gold digger full of insecurities to the woman in love and happy in her head and body in such short time didn’t convince me at all.

A thing that really didn’t work for me is the kind of love triangle. I really don’t care reading a romance book where for half of the story the hero and heroine are both involved with someone else. More over, I really don’t care reading about
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Then, they both ditched their boyfriend/girlfriend and here comes the succession of dramas:
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
*rolls eyes*

Also, in my humble opinion, the mother’s situation could have been better exploited, here it felt more like a drama alibi than anything else.

And the bimbo gold digger who can’t help but fall in love with a man out of job, cliché much? *rolls eyes*

A thing that never fails to annoy the hell out of me while reading a series is when you have a given character that suddenly has a totally new personality. What happened to Joss? I’m sorry but for the life of me I couldn’t reconcile her character in this book from the one in her book. And in my opinion, the explanations for her change of personality are just lame.

The things I liked in this book are Cole and Hanna characters as well as some comebacks, unfortunately their were too few.

Review: Carved in Darkness by Maegan Beaumont
« Reply #189 on: May 17, 2013, 09:14 AM »
Carved in Darkness by Maegan Beaumont  :star: :star: :star: and a half star

3.5 Stars leaning to a 4 I think, lol

I don't read a lot of mystery/thrillers. Mainly because I usually figure it all out before the end of the 2nd chapter and end up bored with the story. Although I did figure this one out it took a bit longer and had a lot of interesting twists and turns that had me second guessing myself a few times. I enjoyed the search and the journey to find this despicable mad man. That part of the story I enjoyed very much.

Had the character betrayals been as promising as the twist and turns this would have been a hands down 5 stars! Unfortunately that wasn't the case. In my opinion Ms. Beaumont needed to delve a bit deeper into the characters to make me feel something for them. I had no insight to Melissa/Sabrina other than the horrible tragedy she suffered and the fact that now she is a feeling-less cop. The same goes for Micheal. I get he was suppose to be a cold heartless killer but these two main characters just felt flat for me. Not to mention that the Sabrina hasn't let herself feel anything in 15 years now she suddenly (with out any explanation or growth between the two) she is in love with Micheal within a weeks time. That just annoyed me.

There are a few things that also bothered me with the set up of Melissa/Sabrina's character. I know the attack happened when she was a minor and the files sealed and what not. This woman who is now a Homicide investigator would have had to have had a physical exam and a psych test done before ever even becoming a cop to begin with. Which brings me to my problem. She has screws and plates in her face which would have had to be explained to a doctor and proof of said injuries would have been investigated. Not to mention the scar carved into her stomach reading MINE. Not only would a doctor be seeing some red flags so would a psychiatrist. So how does nobody know what happened to her. A police department doesn't just say "Oh you changed your name. That's alright, no big deal." They are going to look into it. Again someone would know and it would be in her file.

Believe it or not I still enjoyed the book and would recommend it to someone who is easily able to overlook the flaws and still see the basic structure of a good story.

Review: Nora Roberts - Sea Swept (Chesapeake Bay Saga #1)

Nora Roberts - Sea Swept (Chesapeake Bay Saga #1) :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

*Review without spoilers*

““Don’t mix up who I am and what I am,” she told him quietly. “You have to be honest with me, or the rest of it means nothing.””

“He was on his knees on the platform as he spoke, using his hands to show her. And still leaving her in the dark.
But it didn’t matter whether she understood the technique he described or not. She understood him. He might not realize it yet, but he had fallen in love with this place, and with the work he would do here.”

This was at least my fourth read and I still absolutely LOVE this book.

The Chesapeake Bay saga is one of the best series written by Nora Roberts and is definitely one of my favorite. Each book has one love story but the general arc of the series revolve around ten years old Seth and the Quinn brothers relationship.

“Three men, three brothers, three reactions. Phillip’s polished welcome, Ethan’s vaguely embarrassed nod, and Cam’s irritated scowl.
And there was no doubt each and every one of them looked outrageously male and appealing in sweat and tool belts.”

““Makes sense”, Phillip agreed and, feeling better, he grinned at Cam. “You’re Mommy.”
“Fuck you.”
“That’s no way for Mommy to talk.””

Cameron Quinn is a successful champion boats racer, basking in the afterglow of his last win when he is called home to his dying father’s bed. Once there, dying Ray Quinn asks him and his two brothers to take care of Seth, the last damaged boy he was in the process of adopting.

““I’m counting on each of you. Ethan takes things as they come and makes the best of them. Phillip wraps his mind around details and ties them up. You push at everything until it works your way. The boy needs all three of you. Seth’s what’s important. You’re all what’s important.””

Once, all of them also were abused and troubled young boys, then Stella and Ray Quinn stepped into their lives and claimed them as their own. Not only they gave them a safe arbor but love, a family and, most of all, a life.

Cam is a rough-edged adrenaline addict, always on the go and even if it costs him a lot he’s determined to hold the promise he gave his father and give Seth a home. But quickly they realize that keeping Seth's guardianship is not the only battle they have to fight.

““I’m selfish, impatient. I go for the thrills because that’s what suits me. Paying your debts doesn’t have anything to do with having a good heart. I’m a son of a bitch, and I like it that way.””

Seth broke my heart but it was so beautiful to see him opens up to his new guardians/brothers and I loved his relationship with Cam.

““The kid's driving me bat-shit," Cam complained as he stalked into the kitchen. "You can't say boo to him without him squaring up for a fight."
"Mm-hmm."
"Argumentative, smart-mouthed, troublemaker."
"Must be like looking in a mirror."
"Like hell."
"Don't know what I was thinking of. You're such a peaceable soul.””

““You don’t want to get in the habit of overusing the word “fuck” as an adjective. You’ll miss the vast variety of its uses.””

Then there is Anna. She’s the social worker in charge of Seth's pending adoption. After Ray’s death she goes to meet with the Quinn brothers to evaluate the situation. She is a no-bullshit but warm, loving and passionate woman who takes her job seriously.

““You said you survived, Anna, but you didn’t. You triumphed. Everything about you is a testament to courage and strength.””

“He could have denied it, could have taken the I-don’t-know-what-you’re-talking-about approach and done an expert job of it. But her eyes had the same effect on him as they’d had on Seth. They wouldn’t let his tongue wrap itself around a decent lie.”

Their relationship was hot and fun and the scene where they declared their love to each other: one of the best and funiest ever :D

“Phillip could only close his eyes. “For God’s sake, you’re hitting on the social worker.”
“She’s hitting on me, too.” Cam flashed a grin. “I like it.””

“Sometimes, she thought, you had to go with your instincts, with your cravings. At that moment hers, all of hers, centered on him.”

“The wanting was huge, ruthlessly keen, recklessly primitive. And for now, for both of them, it was all that mattered.”

First Drop of Crimson  by  Jeaniene Frost :star: :star: i didn't like all the "he likes me, he doesn't like me" "she feels the same way? She doesn't feel the same way"

Seriously....I'm Kidding  by Ellen DeGeneres :star: :star: :star: :star: I love Ellen, she is so sweet and fuuny and fresh, the book is a mix of random thoughts, stories, well short stories  it was an enjoyable book to read it made me smile and laugh out loud at parts.

Eternal Kiss Of Darkness  by  Jeaniene Frost  :star: :star: it was good better than First Drop of Crimson, i loved Kira, how stong and independent and straight forward she was, Mencheres was alright as a leading hero but, there was nothing new in the book to talk about.

Cherise Sinclair - This Is Who I Am (Masters of the Shadowlands #7) :star::star::star::star:

*Review without spoilers*

He gave her a contemplative stare as if he’d never had a woman tease him. Then again, who in their right mind would tease a sadist?

Amongst the BDSM themed books the sadist/masochist couples are part of the ones I like the least. I’m sorry, but I can’t find a sadist appealing so if I can help it I tend to avoid BDSM books with sadist heroes.

That being said, even though I knew that Sam and Linda fell in that category I couldn’t wait to read “This is Who I Am”. For three reasons. The first one is although Sam is a sadist, since book 5 I couldn’t help but like him. The second reason is because in book 6, wanting to help Linda, Sam ended up messing up big time. He knows something went wrong but doesn’t know what and feel bad about it. The last reason is because in this book the identity of the mole in the Shadowlands Club was to be revealed (this particular sadist was creepy).

And then he’d made a mistake; to this day, he wasn’t sure exactly what. He had ideas, but hell, he could be totally off base.

“I’m not sure what I did.” Where were all the arguments he’d come up with over the past months? “But I did something wrong. I’m sorry, girl.”

Still, because of the MC's preferences I was prepared to not enjoy this book as much as the other, so this book was a really really good surprise. I don’t know how she did it but somehow Cherise Sinclair managed to write the story in such a way that their relationship was just beautiful and right.

With Sam, she’d felt safe. Safe enough to let go, to let pain transform into pleasure, to let herself slide into her happy place. His strength, his voice, even his brutal honesty was reassuring. So was the way he’d hold her afterward with surprisingly tender hands, caring for her as if she... meant... something.

I think that one of the things that allowed this achievement is that during the different BDSM scenes, instead of focusing on too much technical details or the pain side, Cherise Sinclair focused on the pleasure felt by Linda.

Glorious, erotic rawness. Unsure if she hurt or felt wonderful, she whimpered.
Delight filled his eyes.
[...] The pain was —as Goldilocks said—just right.

Another thing that helped is that not only none of them is in the humiliation stuff but after her abduction Linda is determined to be threated with respect and Sam is there to help her recover her self-esteem and confidence. I really liked the game they played where she was to receive “good” punishment if she misbehaved and “bad” ones if she was polite and compliant.

Sam is a really thoughtful and watchful Dom (inside and outside the club), Linda is a strong and loving woman and together they were beautiful. I think the fact that they are both mature added a dimension to their story.

Expecting to see amusement in his gaze, she saw only concern. It didn’t matter. She rose to her feet, rattled when he did the same. But he was the kind of man who’d observe that old-fashioned courtesy. A gentleman sadist.

"May have less muscles, but women got more guts than most men."

Of course this book being part of the Masters of the Shadowlands series, there was also funny moments. And I absolutely can’t wait for Sally, Galen and Vance story!!!

"Those two. They’ve got tag teaming down to a science. And they make me feel stupid. I never feel stupid. I need a drink."

This book was okay, but, the thing is i feel like the series maybe should have ended with book 4 and not dragged on with rest of the books and the spinoff series that u have to read in order with this series so u can get the whole picture, like i said it is okay and Bones and Cat have chemistry and are amazing and funny together but how much can anyone take of the same thing, i lost my enthusiasm for it and now i'm just reading to get it over with.

Tangled is a refreshing change of pace. Wonderful and witty this story is written from a mans point of view. I laughed my way through Drew's heart ache, excuse me I'm sorry his "flu". I enjoyed watching Drew grow he takes his journey from being a playboy to a man in love. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a nice fun read!
