Amazon & B&N - Lendables
« on: May 08, 2013, 07:26 AM »
I was wondering if there could be a new thread where PTS members could request ebooks to be "loaned"

On Amazon they have a forum for called "Loan Me Thread".  Certain ebooks purchased through Amazon have a 1 time loan option. (product details state Lending: Enabled)

I believe B&N also have something like this (I don't think have have a limit) LendMe.  You do have to become Nook Friends.

Is the loaning of eBooks really legal? Isn't this the same as file sharing?
Yes, loaning of certain eBooks is legal and No, it is not the same as file sharing. The key difference between the two is that the loan status of an eBook is directly established by the publisher or author when they listed the ebook on Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com and file sharing is usually done without the publisher or authors knowledge or consent. Working with Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble, the publisher's make their eBooks available for loan under very strict rules and Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com conducts the entire loan process.

What do you think?  8)

There's a web site (booklending.com) which is owned by Amazon where you can request loans and offer your purchases for loan from Amazon but I'm not sure if you have to be a resident of the states to loan or own a kindle. I can't loan any of my purchased kindle books from the site as I'm not American nor do I own a kindle. Trouble with the site is it takes ages to finally get up the list enough to get a book loaned to you.

I know that lendables might be an issue for some who are in countries that don't allow it.  But you're right when you state it takes a while for anyone to get their actual request.  (I've request 2 books on Amazon in the last couple of months and no one has responded to me :( )

On PTS it could be requested and then the email exchanged via PM.  Smaller group than the millions on Amazon. :P
