« on: September 25, 2011, 01:22 PM »
I have seen a lot of people asking for book suggestions/recommendations so I thought I would open up a new thread dedicated specifically for this purpose. Please use this thread to ask for new idea on what to read or recommend some of your favorites.

The rules of this thread are simple:

This is a discussion thread only. Any requests for book links/uploads will be deleted immediately. Please use the search feature to find any books discussed- I guarantee you can find 99% of them by doing so and if not, please PM the user.

Thanks....enjoy!

I'm looking for dark paranormal books or dark books in general and I love some alpha male, too. I'm looking for adult level books.

Series that I've read that have a dark or darkish undertones:

Immortals after dark
The League
Dark Hunter
Demonica
The Breeds
The Midnight Breeds
Night Huntress
*~Since Ashen needs it to be official :P I claim both Vengeance and Brass as my New Species. Paws off ladies they are mine!!~*

I've been looking everywhere for the "Through Violet Eyes Series" but I can't find it. Does anyone here know where I can find it or be kind enough to tell me if the author is in the opt-out list. If he isn't, does anyone have it and could upload it?

I'll be grateful! =)

I tend to read a book a day (I swear, it's an addiction!) so I am constantly looking for new books. Thankfully, I can usually re-read books, which helps when I can't find new authors I actually like. I like some YA as well as fantasy, paranormal romance, and a tiny little bit of mystery, romance, and sci-fi.
My number one requirement for a book is that it has to have a happy ending. I'm willing to put up with some pretty horrific content (e.g., Kenyon's Acheron) so long as it ends up happy. I like books with magical content; whether that's actual magic, preternatural creatures (vampires, etc), telepathic powers (Bradley's Darkover), as long as there's that hint of "other", I'm good.

Here are the books/authors/series I can think of that I've read and liked: Asprin's Myth series, Piers Anthony, Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher, Steven Brust, Trudi Canavan, Artemis Fowl series, Mary Janice Davidson, Diane Duane, David Eddings, Raymond Feist, Terry Goodkind, Laurell K. Hamilton, Elizabeth Haydon, Hendee's Noble Dead Saga, Hobb's Assassin books, Kenyon's Dark/Dream-Hunter series, Song in the Silence by Kerner, Katherine Kerr's Daggerspell series, Gregory Keyes' Waterborn, all of Mercedes Lackey, Gail Z. Martin, Anne McCaffrey, Robin McKinley, Meyer's Water Mirror, ~Twilight series (somewhat), Karen Moning, Garth Nix's Sabriel, Philip Pullman, Norton's Elvenbane, all of Tamora Pierce, Jennifer Roberson's Sword- series, Recluce series, Nora Roberts, Robb's In Death series, Michelle Sagara West, Carrie Vaughan, Patricia Wrede, Maria Snyder, Cassandra Clare, Feehan's Dark series, Jim Hines, Terry Pratchett, Karen Miller, Patrick Rothfuss, Millenium Trilogy (w/ Lisbeth Sanders), Croggon's Pellinor series, Jordan's Wheel of Time, Incarceron, Faith Hunter, Hunger Games series, Maze Runner series, Orson Scott Card.....I'm sure there're others, but that's what comes to mind.

Lackey, Pierce, and Roberts/Robb are probably my favorite authors, simply because everything they write is good and they're extremely prolific. Quality is important, of course, but I do like quantity in an author. It's not necessary, by any means, but it's a nice perk.

So...any suggestions? Pretty please?

Thanks,
Kallisti

love most of the authors you put on your list and my tastes are much like yours - and crazy habits =p, so many sleep nights lost in good books...-) try Anne Bishop, Ann Aguirre, Lynn Kurland (more fantasy/humor but really good) and Alice Borchardt (a touch of dark/t7608 and werewolves in a political ploy),Richelle Mead dark swan is great...if you need any of these let me know and i'll post them
 good hunting

Though it's a bit late, I thought I'd add a few.  Kelley Armstrong, anything she writes.  Even if the synopsis doesn't sound that great (i.e. Exit Strategy) her writing will pull you in and you'll have a fun ride.  Another like that is Rachel Caine and her Weather Warden/ Outcast Season series.

Victoria Laurie
has her Psychic Eye and Ghost Hunter Series.  Light, quick and fun reads, more along the mystery lines but has a bit of the paranormal and ESP thrown in for a little twist.  Not dark and brooding at all.  I used her to balance out Lilith Saintcrow and her Dante Valentine and Jill Kismet Series.

Ilona Andrews and her Kate Daniels Series is another little gem I've found.  Most of these series I discovered while waiting for my number one authors new releases to actually BE released.  They have now moved up to be included into those number one authors.

Hope these are helpful..

I like reincarnation themed romance, I have read Reincarnation by Suzanne Weyn, Lake of Dreams by Linda Howard, Legend by Jude Deveraux, A knight in shining armor & Remembrance by Jude Deveraux, Dominion by Melanie Jackson, Draycott Abbey series by Christina Skye, Eternity series by Maggie Shayne. If anyone have any other suggestions, I will welcome them.

Nalini Singh's Archangel's Blade has this theme. The millennia old vamp Dmitri's wife is reincarnated in the present.

Morganville Vampires is a great YA, ITs sounds real vampy but it's not your usual vamps. I like this series so much because the leads aren't always breaking up and getting back together, they stick it out.

Also I have to say (which I'm sure someone already has) Beautiful Diaster By Jamie McGuire, I just read she's also releasing this from Travis's POV in 2012 is one of my all time fav's.

S.C Stephens Thoughtless and Effortless will NOT disappoint.*swoons* I LOVE Kellan.

Adrian Phoenix's HooDoo series and her Marker's Song series are great.

Hello...
I really love Lisa Kleypas' historicals, they are my favorite books, but I'm having a hard time finding a book that is similar. A lot of people recommended Sttephenie Laurens and I tried her work... I didn't care for it.
I don't like pirates, paranormal and stories that deal with rape (or borderline rape). I also don't enjoy doormat heroines. Most historicals have silly plots about ridiculous promises and unprobable scenarios... I don't like those either.
Is there hope for me? :D
