Hi!
I'm searching for a book and hoping someone may recognize this plot:
  • h and H were childhood sweethearts, but H had to go away for university (I think it was UChicago)
  • H didn't have a lot of money but would come back when he could by bus to see the h
  • H and h get into a fight. He comes back to try to make up with h and sees h with another guy (it may have been a misunderstanding, I can't remember) so H goes back to Chicago and hooks up with his study buddy
  • H marries study buddy when she gets pregnant (I think they lose the child)
  • Present day H is eventually divorced and has a successful career in Chicago (I think as an architect or engineer)
  • H comes back to town (which he rarely does) to see his last remaining relative there (I think it was his uncle)
  • h and H start to fall in love again

Help, I can't remember the title
I'm looking for a book that I just can't remember the title or author of. Here is what I do recall. I think the women in her family often have something wrong with them that affects them mentally. I'm pretty sure her mother had it. Her older sister got it while she was in college, I think. It didn't affect her sister's twin brother, who is now a doctor. The twins were super close so her condition has really affected him. The older sister is now confined to a private facility. I think the heroine was placed there for awhile too, but is now out. The heroine takes the hero there when she goes on one of her visits to her sister. The thing I remember most clearly is that the periods where her sister is lucid and herself are getting much less frequent and in one of them later in the book, she and her older brother go to see her and they all eat together and talk and laugh and have a great time together. After she leaves, the twins talk and the sister knows her condition is deteriorating. She tells her twin she wants to die while she's still herself. Her brother can't bear the thought of being without his twin so they decide to go together. When the nurse comes in to check on her in the morning they are both dead. I believe they left a note for the heroine. Does any of this ring a bell for anyone? It's driving me crazy that I can't remember the name of the book.

Thanks,
BBN

I have the answer. It was Nalini Singh's Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter #7)  The sister and her twin brother are the older siblings of Ashwini.

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for an old original fiction, not a published book but a story published on either WordPress, Blogspot or Wattpad. The name of it was The Matchmaker's Promise if I remember correctly. I believe it was placed in Victorian times and centers around a young woman from a small village who goes to her village matchmaker to be married. The matchmaker finds a husband for her who she does not meet until her wedding day. It turns out that her husband is the village outcast that everyone believes to be some kind of wicked. Since the young woman is already married to him when she and everyone else realize who he is she is stuck being married to him. The matchmaker gives her advice of "You will be happy if..." But the woman is not able to hear the rest of the message. She goes to live with her now husband who is kind of cruel and distant and odd. There's a part in the story where the woman finds some roses hidden in a part of the house and cuts them to place at the dinner table. When her husband sees the roses he gets infuriated and ends up throwing a glass at her I think. Later she finds out that her husband is the son of the matchmaker who is a witch and he is a wizard of some kind and uses a tea made from special roses to lessen some of his magical symptoms. They start to fall in love when the villagers abduct her and attack the home of her husband to kill him but he escapes. She discovers she's pregnant while he is away and is planning to escape if he does not come for her. I think he goes to rescue her eventually and they move away to raise their child in peace. Hopefully someone recognizes this old story and has a copy of it since I'm dying to read it again. Any help is appreciated!

I'm hoping someone will recognize the plot of this medieval romance:

The heroine fell in love with the illegitimate son of the LORD of the castle (the lord of the castle is the HERO).  She falls pregnant and has a daughter, but her lover abandons her and she has to work at the castle in some kind of menial capacity.  The lord of the castle returns to his castle and he and the heroine fall in love and begin an affair.  The hero has a legitimate adult son who is opposed to his relationship to the heroine. Despite all opposition, the hero becomes so obsessed with the heroine that he marries her despite the difference in their social station, their age difference and the fact that she was previously involved with his illegitimate son.  The illegitimate son is murdered and the heroine is framed and accused of the murder.  The hero takes the blame and he is tried for the murder and sentenced to death.

I think it’s Lord of the Keep by Ann Lawrence. It was really good.

There's another book I'm looking for, and this time it's contemporary romance

The HERO is a policeman (but possibly a fireman I can't remember) who was married to a woman that he deeply loved and considered to be the love of his life.  They were happily married for many years until the wife had an accident or some kind of mental illness that changed her entire personality and she became very hateful towards there hero.  He was so devoted to her that despite the horrible way she treated him, he faithfully stayed in the marriage clinging to the hope that she would go back to being the woman she used to be.  Time passed and the marriage became intolerable, and the story opens years later when the hero meets the heroine who works at a restaurant and they slowly become involved with each other.  The wife finds out about them and she is not jealous or cares that he is seeing someone else but she's evil and tries to destroy their relationship.  The book is super angsty, and there's loads of drama.  It was also a really painful read, so I never finished it and there's lots of details missing from my description.  There's also a sequel to this novel and the wife is the heroine in that book.  I'm really hoping someone recognizes the plot as I always regretted not finishing this novel.

Fun is good. -Dr. Seuss

Hoping someone can help me remember the title of this book...

  • FMC is the Executive at a company she inherited from her fatherr
  • MMC is her assistant (and secretly in love with her)r
  • FMC wants to buy a property (I think it was a hotel) from a reclusive millionaire, but rumor has it that recluse is old fashioned and won't
  • consider an offer from a female execr
  • FMC and MMC go to meet with him, but pretend MMC is the bossr
  • Later on, we learnt hat the MMC is actually overqualified to be FMC's assistant but when he first saw her he fell in. love and realized that she was married to her work. he took the job to get close to her and hopefully get her to open up over time and see him as a future partner

note: it think FMC was engaged/married to a gold digger before taking over the company which is also why she's so focused on work

This thread doesn’t get really any traction BUT I’m hoping and trying anyway.

#1.

College romance novel - read it on Amazon between 2014-2019.Set at the University of Iowa. heroine is a single mother of a son….maybe him name is Finn. she’s in student housing/apartment. Her ex committed suicide before her son was born. She meets the hero….the quarterback and he’s eventually drafted to the NFL and oriole before are trying to get him to not be attached to a single mother.

TL;DR -
College romance, set at University  of Iowa. single mother with son named Finn, hero the quarterback/football player for the school soon to be drafted to the NFL.

#2.

Romance novel, group of millionaire/billionaire friends, maybe 3 of them have an arrangement where they audition women to date and then rotate through them for 9 months to a year. It works because they’re all attracted to the women but not attached. One immediately falls for one of the women who he’s paired with for the year and he wants to keep and only date her and not end their contract and have her “switch” to a friend of his.

TL;DR

3 rich friends have arrangement where they pick women to contract date for a year then “swap” girlfriends until 1 falls for his contract girl and wants to break the swapping arrangement.

I checked that one and that’s not it. It was definitely a football hero romance novel but it was mature like. No “the hottest jock in town likes me” summary type. But more of a single mother keeping her head together meets nice guy who falls for her son AND her and he happens to be a huge potential NFL player.

I have a new book i am attempting to remember the name of.

This book is about a civilian scientist working on a military controlled project. They were working to enhance soldier abilities. They are still working on primate subjects but one of her colleagues and the military supervisor of the project go behind her back and expose a team of special forces soldiers to the project. This is done with the soldiers believing they are just getting innoculation shot. And one member of the team their leader was injected while knocked out in the hospital recovering from the last mission the just got back from.

While he is still out, his team is sent out on a new mission and the scientist discovers what her colleagues have done. She uses a device she has to go after the team to try reversing what was done to the soldiers because the doses they were exposed to have shown to have possible deadly results.

She has a limited time frame in which she can reverse the process.

When the team leader get out of the hospital he heads out after his team to bring them back, as they have missed their check in communications.

He runs into the scientist as she is escaping from the local police department after being picked up while looking for the team.

She finds out he was exposed to her project as well. She is unable to reverse the process due to her device being destroyed when she was captured by the local police.

She is still going with him to see what she can do to help him and his men.

As they find the menbers of the team and she observes their reactions to her project, luckily none have shown adverse reactions.

Her colleagues however injected themselves with the project and both have had severe and worsening reactions.

Can anyone tell me who wrote this book and what is it called?

Hi all, hope you can help me remember the name/author of this romance:

I can only remember it vaguely as I read it years ago (not a new book). In this book there is a woman who always has a handbag with anything and everything in it. In this one scene the woman is kidnapped and she has her small dog (possibly a chihuahua) bring her the keys and when she gets loose she subdues the kidnapper and superglues his hands together (possibly around a pole) so that he cant get away.

I know this is not a lot but I really hope this is enough to identify the book. I think it might be part of the old Loveswept line of books, but I am really not sure.
You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me!

Help! Do you recognize this book?
« Reply #558 on: December 14, 2021, 06:11 AM »
Hi. I’m looking for a series I started reading during Covid shut in.  It ended in a major cliff hanger and I cannot remember the author, series name or title.  If you recognize the description or are able to suggest a possible author please let me know.

Things I know…

The book is a young adult/new adult dark romance.  It has trigger warnings.  The story is set in  the now.

The heroine’s family was murdered.  It is thought by the town that she died as well.  However, she was taken by the eldest son of a wealthy family who is involved in sex trafficking.  The son repeatedly rapes this girl.  She is in a very bad way but manages to stumble away, and the younger brother, who is not at all like his father or older brother, helps her get away.  They eventually becomes best friends.

Unbeknownst to her, her mother had previously given birth to a child whom she gave up for adoption.  The boy was adopted by a teacher and her husband who was a principal.  He goes to look up his sister and ends up saving her.

She is taken in by him, and adopted by his parents.  The brother is wealthy, deals in security and information.  He helps her in her desire to see the criminals in this town put away.

Like four years later, she returns under a new name, her appearance changed.  Attends the local high school.  She is bullied by several boys who are the head of the school.  The boys in particularly don’t like people associating with rival school members and this is a problem because her best friend, whom they despise, attends a rival school.  The best friend is pretending to be psychotic and corrupt so as to make his family and the criminal organization think he supports his own family arrangements.

The boys are doing information sourcing and secret jobs for a particular company which they do not know is the company of the girl’s half brother.  All the related jobs have to do with the rapist, his dad and the criminals organizations in the town.

Anyway…she eventually ends up friends with them.  Falls in love, but has a secret she still doesn’t reveal.  One of them follows her, discovering this home she sneaks off to.  Her adopted family is living there.  The two get into an argument because of her secretiveness and during it a little four year old girl comes running out calling her mommy.

Turns out the rape led to her getting pregnant.  For a time these two keep the child a secret.  Then all the boys find out.   The little girl believes the best friend/uncle is her dad.

At the end of the most recent book, the older brother kidnaps the daughter, after breaking into the house and beating her half brother.  They now know whom she is and that she’s trying to get revenge.

That’s all I can think of.  Sorry. No names, etc.  Brain fog.  Lol

Name that book: heroine finds hero passed out on beach

Can you help me name this book?
It's a historical romance book.
I remember the heroine find the hero passed out on the beach and drags him to the inn she works at. The heroine keeps him hidden and tales care of him there. The hero is actually a lord or a duke. The hero is older than the heroine and the heroine refers to him as being "mon contraband" or something similar as he is also a smuggler.

Hi Everyone,

Do you recognise this romance book? - A guy whose name started with C (Caine?) worked on a fishing boat (but maybe working with seafood rather than fish). He has problems with alcohol. I can't remember anything about heroine though :(
