Please be aware that we have long since finished this.  We NO LONGER ALLOW SHARING OF EBOOKS on this site.  Please do not post a book, it will be removed.  Please do not post a link.  It will be removed.

Dear members

We are in progress of migrating have migrated the site to a new name and defining defined new guidelines. One of the most important is to discontinue hosting ebooks on our website so that we are DMCA compliant.

Over next few days STP's team of Moderators will be deleting all posts from all the Boards containing books and book requests.   These have been deleted.

Please do not make any further book uploads on the site.

Thank you for your understanding.

Note: We will review the new rules when the site is fully migrated, so if you have any suggestions please let us know by contacting one of our Mods.

Wow, I just registered and you're TAKING IT DOWN? Have you ever thought that there are people outside USA/UK or whatever you live and sites like these are the only chance for thousands of people to read something?

Well, this isn't good news but a predictable outcome. I've seen many book sharing sites go down like this so I'm not surprised. It's a bit sad, I just found this site though. Oh well. There'll be another one.
Of course I understand why the admins did what they did, since no one wants to be slammed with a lawsuit.

I don't really understand the authors though, for continuously fighting with the sharing. I get that they feel like they're losing money but in reality, they're sort of not. Most people who download books, wouldn't have bought them anyway. Out of several thousands ebooks I've read, maybe 2% I went and bought afterwards, because they were good. The rest? Forgettable and not that great, either poor plot or characterization or something else.

Basically, if the sharing would be completely wiped out from the internet, the profits of these authors wouldn't really shoot up. Maybe 1-5%, but even that is a stretch. It's kind of sad they don't realize it.

If I can't download books, I'm not going to rush and buy them. Only from a handful (1-3) authors I already know are great. The rest? No thanks, not wasting my money. I don't buy books unless I know they're worth it or the author is really good. I know many people who think the same way. But if the authors want to fight 'piracy' (although there's little difference from borrowing from the library, friends, etc.) then they can keep at it, but in the end they'll be the losers. I discovered great authors through sharing and have gone and bought the books I wouldn't have even heard of otherwise.

Well put...Amen!
Please remember the Thank You button :)

This is just sad, STP was the best site for sharing books
I wish I downloaded more books though, and I understand their situation so thankss for all the book sharing and keeping and maintaining the site this long
But honestly, I think the authors will also see a loss in their profit because sharing books actually allows readers to know what type of authors they like and if they like it then they would buy books from them right?
And what difference does it make, someone already bought the book and he or she is just sharing it, so I see nothing wrong with that._.

So now I guess I wont be able to read as much, unless anybody else knows a website like STP :'(

First time poster here and just have to say...

Some of the replies to this thread honestly had me laughing out loud. While I cannot say that I am "guilt-free" because I most certainly have downloaded material from this site, I can most assuredly understand the administrators of this board putting an end to something that could not only cost them a substantial amount of money in fines, but possibly result in criminal charges being filed against them as well. There is not a single member on this forum that would not be doing the EXACT same thing if roles were reversed.

While speaking of role reversals... the replies about the "authors shouldn't mind, silly to try to put an end to piracy, only would have made an extra xx%, etc." Really people? Really? Regardless of how substantial or insubstantial the profit loss to the author might be, can anyone here with all honesty say that it would not irk them to know that they spent upwards to a year of their life WORKING on something that hundreds of people felt they should be entitled to for free, because.. Hey! After all, at least ONE person paid for it. Give me break!

While we all are guilty and have our own reasons or justifications for being so, let's not be so self-deluded or too ignorant to admit that if roles were reversed here (whether that be as the administrators of this board or the authors whose WORKS we are all FREELY enjoying) that we would not take the same actions or feel the same way.

Kudos to the board administrators and moderators for handling the whole situation and the "fallout" replies from some forum members with kindness, grace and dignity. You all deserve to be commended.

Maybe we can upload our books onto other websites and provide links on STP. That way, we technically aren't posting books on STP, but we can still share literature. I just started using this site a few weeks ago, and this was a pretty heavy blow. Hopefully we can make something work so that people who love books aren't going through withdrawal syndrome.  >:D

Awesome guys! Although, it's a turn off. This was a great opportunity to meet book obsessed people and not feel completely on your own. And for the book sharing, that was only a plus, a big one, because some of us can't buy all the books we want  :( ... don't take too long. Now, let's embrace the change and let's turn the page to a new adventure  :P

Uh-oh.  :( I've found out about some great authors that I would otherwise never heard of or read their books. I usually buy only paper books because not everyone has online shopping-friendly country. In my country things like e-shopping are still "future" and there are very little of people who're using it, teens certainly not.

Well, I guess most of the authors who're kind of responsible for this would at the end be very sad because they're just missed their possibility for making new fans.  :D

I'd like to say that I'm grateful because I've heard of Jennifer Laurens and Aprilynne Pike + I'm not going to abandon this site + I'll most definitely still download ebooks from the net and I'm NOT BUYING anything before I read at least one book from the author for free!!! Today everyone can be a writer and that sucks

I have to be honest, I came here for the books and to find recommendations on new things to read. I completely understand why the site is making the decision to take the books down. They are a lawsuit waiting to happen, sad but true. Unfortunately, I doubt I stick around now. My reason for coming here is gone. There are probably many others here that feel the same.

Wow... feels like an end of an era, right? :( I can't say I haven't expected this, since most ebook sharing websites die out with time from all the pressure from authors and publishers. It is what it is...
It's sad for people from third world countries (I come from one myself), where you can't possibly afford or find books in English, to loose places like this. Whenever I travel abroad, I end up bying my favorite books, those I read and really liked.

On a side note, I have an idea, perhaps it's usable.... There are a lot of young authors (when I say young, I don't mean their age, but their publicastion range) out there who might actually be willing to share their books with us here (shout out to JSterling). They would share their book and in return, we would rate it or something. And those who liked it can buy it (make we can even get special discounts for ST members). I think this could work, as we are a big community of avid readers. What do you think?

That's exactly what we want to do and that's why we are changing the name of the site too. Stay tuned!
Please always feel free to PM me regarding any issues or suggestions.

Pity you also deleted topics in which I only asked for book recommendations and if someone by any chance knew where to buy a specific title. I don't see what would have been wrong with that... And a little tip; maybe somebody can change the text that goes with the general forum... it still says upload any ebook here...

Wow, I'm pretty sad that it came to this. I really enjoyed the service that was provided here, but I completely understand why it had to end. Who wants to have criminal charges, especially for some of the people that have outed themselves as complete brats. Really people? Just because they didn't give you a warning doesn't mean that you shouldn't be grateful for the books that you got here completely FREE of charge.

While I am disappointed, I just want to say thank you for providing a place where I could discover authors that I may not have tried otherwise. I probably won't come around as often because I tend to read the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads first before coming over here, but I will check in later to see what becomes of this site.
