Only one book for a long journey. What would you choose?
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:08 PM »
Hi fellow STPs

If you have 5 minutes to spare, I have a hypothetical question for you:

Let's say you are to embark on a long journey (months away from civilisation) whereby you can only take one (1) book with you.  What book would choose and why?

Reason I'm asking this question:
I'm wondering if I have missed out on the "book" of a lifetime and I'd hate myself if I did!

Just one itsy bitsy rule:
Book has to be a romance/adult -hey, I don't have anything against YA but heck it, if I'm gonna be stuck somewhere out of civilisation, I'd want me some action ;)

See results below.

I am still curious and it is not too late for your response  ;D

cheers
Aoibheal

1200 books???  Avantgarde140...that's insane!!!

I wonder how you keep track of what you read??  I know for a fact that I have trouble remembering if I have read a book or not.  It's only by reading the blurbs then I can remember..unless of course if it's an emotionally charged hot and tragic story like thoughtless or beautiful disaster  :P

In case you're wondering, yes I have calibre.  But I have 1 desktop, 2 laptops, my htc desire z smartphone, 1 second generation kindle and coming up..1 kindle fire.  So it's getting a little hard for me to manage all my books hehehe..

hotnholy...is Gabriel's inferno as emotionally charged and covered in turmoil or is it lighter?
well, unless it's a book i really want to reread over and over, i delete it off my kindle once i'm through with it. but i actually keep a folder on my hard drive of all of the fics and books i download and read, just in case i want to reread them or someone else wants them. every now and then i burn that folder to a cd.

it's funny, b/c i have a desktop, 2 laptops, and a 3rd gen. kindle. i don't want a fire one. i eat when i'm reading. lol.

I wouldn't be able to pick just one book (unless it was my nook with a giant microSD card), but I'd recommend the Argeneaux series for some fun adult romance.

Avantgarde:  I do keep a folder..the problem is sometimes I just get so impatient to start reading a book and just cannot take the time to sort my folders (yes..i've got multiple folder..stupid me)   ::)

Are you kidding me HOTNHOLY!!

I've finished Guild Hunter's series except for the last one on Dmitri, just not interested in him..why is Nalini writing about him as a continuation to this series??

Now awaiting for the next one hopefully a continuation on Raphael and Elena.  I also can't wait for the next instalment on Riaz and Adria of Pys-Changelling series which is seriously hot!!

Sarra Manning's book is on my pile of TR list.

I do love a good bodice ripper book ;)  I believe we all have that primitive instinct hidden behind the veneer of humanity 8)

All right, Aoibheal, fine. If I can only bring one book, then I choose the Chronicle of Amber by Roger Zelazny. It's technically 10 books, but it's in one giant volume, so that should count!

Hotnholy....... as suggested, I spent the whole of yesterday and today (time difference, GMT+8) reading it!!!

And...it's a D#$M good thing this book (Stormfire by Christine Monson) has a HEA ending!!  I might just have to give you a good whipping had it ended differently!!  :P

Interest in historical bodice ripper aside, half the time (early chapters) I wish I could kill the H and I spend the other half of it rooting (later chapters) for him. Stockholm syndrome not only affects Countess Catherine but me as well *grimace*.

As for H losing his balls...don't you think it's Karma?  Anyways, of course
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
(how convenient) ;)  What with H's constant vengeance filled actions (early chapters) that I am sure you realised has been sorely misplaced especially taking it out on a young Catherine.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
...and then to turn hate into love?? Urgg....it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.  Consequently, I find that the Author's convoluted, tragic and twisted stylised romance too dark and depressing.

Later into the Chapters....the sacrifice both H and H had to go through ....for what??  They could have just leave everything in the first place and not have to deal with Liam, Raoul and Napolean!!!  Skip all those tragic /stupid matrydom!! All in all, I felt that the author could have left the Napolean crap off the book.   :P

cheers
Aoi

ps:  i would suggest readers who decide to read this book with the music titled "Down with the sickness" by Disturbed

Lol!! I wouldn't go that far babe.  I think that story is too dark even for a bodice ripper :)

Judith McNaught was the author who had me addicted to reading romance ;)

Read all her historical books and my ultimate favorite....and oh..I have been remissed...  I didn't answer my own question on this topic did I.  My heart of the hearts book the one book that I would go for on a long journey and will not tire of is titled Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught.

Sigh....it is such a beautifully written story.
