Only one book for a long journey. What would you choose?
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:08 PM »
Hi fellow STPs

If you have 5 minutes to spare, I have a hypothetical question for you:

Let's say you are to embark on a long journey (months away from civilisation) whereby you can only take one (1) book with you.  What book would choose and why?

Reason I'm asking this question:
I'm wondering if I have missed out on the "book" of a lifetime and I'd hate myself if I did!

Just one itsy bitsy rule:
Book has to be a romance/adult -hey, I don't have anything against YA but heck it, if I'm gonna be stuck somewhere out of civilisation, I'd want me some action ;)

See results below.

I am still curious and it is not too late for your response  ;D

cheers
Aoibheal

you don't have to say you love me  ;D and maybe thoughtless/effortless. But if I were away from all civilization I would prefer to have Kellan (*sigh*) with me  :P

i've moved your thread to general since it's not really a request but more a general discussion (hope you don't mind) but that way there's a bigger chance for participants i think

Woahh! I've never read books from Sarra Manning and SC Stephens.

These are going in my MR list.  Thanks filouke!

I love your thread :)  I am going to move it to the Bookstore Cafe so it'll get more traffic (it's perfect for that section)

I agree with Filouke....I'd have to take Kellan with me so my vote goes to Thoughtless & Effortless by S.C. Stephens (I know you said one book but i couldn't decide which was the better of the series....)

Congratulations on the job!!.
And you are saying no to the second book cos youve not read thoughtless. Once you do, you'll want to read effortless too asap so the one rule book shall have to go :).
Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you – not because they are nice… but because you are nice

Thanks Anams! After all those multiple 4 to 2 panel interviews...I've finally received a job offer.   Indeed I am blessed.

Ok, back to this subject...   ::) If there are no parameters, then all hell will break lose.  Let's face it, it is hard to choose a book and not just any book but that one book that satisfy you on multiple levels and that you will never tire.  Obviously, I'm sure I'd go crazy after reading Thoughtless and would have continued on with Effortless.

But my aim for this hypothetical question, would be to discover the one book that holds a special place to each and every participating STP readers heart. For me, that one book would have to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Romance
  • Hot and spicy
  • Betrayal or a specific event that just about rips the h/h
  • the Courtship
  • the happy ending

Cliche?? I know.  But I just feel that sometimes it's the traditional romance book that stays lodged deep in my heart.  ;)

So Anams....tell me...what's the one book that sits in your hearts of hearts??

congratz with your job!! and i think it's pretty obvious you should pick up thoughtless asap  ;)

•Romance => definitely!
•Hot and spicy => kellan is all hot so no prob there  ;)
•Betrayal or a specific event that just about rips the h/h => the girl is messing with 2 wonderful guys, so here you have your answer
•the Courtship => kellan didn't have to do a lot of courtship because he's just (in case you're still not convinced) HOT!  :P hehe. No because of the love triangle he had to convince MC he's the one ofcourse
•the happy ending => yep! in the end everything works out for everyone

okay, okay. i guess it would have to be katie macalister's you slay me, the first in her aisling grey/dragon sept series. it's got it all. humor, lemons, snark, sarcasm, and a heroine who you can really rally for. she definitely makes for a great heroine. anything by katie mac is great, in fact. she never disappoints.

oops, i forgot another one if i couldn't have katie mac. i'd choose karen marie moning's dark highlander. your name, aoibheal, made me remember that it's a great book too.

Aoibheal, just one book? For a few months? Even though this is a hypothetical question, I feel like someone had walked over my grave!
I'd die with just one book, no matter how good it is. :/
But, the girls have given a very good book as an answer, Thoughtless rocked. And Kellan, uh, he's one of those guys you could just eat up! I think I'll have to re-read the books again. :P

My my my...I have just finished with thoughtless.  Indeed the book is aptly named!

Whilst reading, every now and then I have this strong inclination to smash Keira with a frying pan for being obtuse !!  Indeed, I hate that I went through a whole gamut of emotions just from reading her actions. Seriously, she's got my insides twisted up like pretzels.  Even now, my heart is still aching for Denny; for Kellan and I can't believe I'm going to say this..for her too!

Ladies, thank you for your recommendation!  You ROCK!!

cheers
Aoibheal

ps:  did i forget to mention how i wholly approve of Kellan?  Let's just say that his hotness can "fill" me anytime ;)

hehe glad to hear you like it! And you've made a good summarize of the feelings i got to by reading the book... frustration, annoyance, but you can't put it down  :) and yeah, i also felt bad for Kiera sometimes! Because she didn't mean to hurt someone and she's devastated about it. And whily Denny is such a great guy, he is not kellan... i mean, how can you NOT love Kellan (like your end quote btw  ;) )Wow my frustration are coming back all over again  ;D

So, now effortles??  :P

You girls are far too forgiving. All my sympathy for Keira went out the window, by the end of Thoughtless. I wanted to pluck out her hair, hair at a time! I mean, seriously, how could someone be such a freaking idiot?! She kept going back and forth like a ping pong ball, between Danny and Kellan. And Kellan, omg, he should get the "Patience personified" award for all the crap he's put up with from her!
