So I'm feeling nosey/curious...
« on: August 21, 2012, 09:14 AM »
Since we all love books here I thought I might ask a few questions. Feel free to answer if you want. :) I'll give my answers in another post after this.

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
I'm not a hoarder... Ok, maybe a digital hoarder. But that's not bad right?

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.

Shh...i don't really count. But mostly i look for what i want to read.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?

Don't have a favourite genre. It used to be crime but nowadays i am more experimental in my reading selection. It open up my eyes and that i learn more than my confine area of crime. (in a good way though ;))

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.

Used to read quite a few but now about 1 to 2 books per week, depending on the amount of spare time i've had.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!

Definitely.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?

Nancy Drew, all Sweet Valley series and Enid Blyton were hot stuff as a child for me.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?

Still Nancy Drew. Love her detective experience and how she brought her sharp observation to her life, her surrounding that help her to solve mystery and that her life attitude and focus towards her mysteries and also added advantage is the adventure which nowadays writer just get down to business. You don't see much stories starting with helping a person but it happen to be a mystery to be solve or while on a vacation or maybe on a honeymoon (this is one story i make up of, but the two former can be found in Nancy Drew books)

Well for starters, I guess I don't know how many do I have, but I just got a new hardrive bc I already filled the last 3, not bragging but I think I'm a digital hoarder! not worried, I think that as long as I've read all of them I'm fine, I do judge a book, but not by it's cover, mostly by the summary or the reviews! I'm actually looking for books by Tiffany Reisz, if anyone has any and would like to share then Please and Thank You!

How many books do I have?

3000+

What is my favourite genre?

 - Fantasy, especially heroic!
 - Humor
 - War, tearjerker books
 - Romance
 - Young Adult
 - Biographies of truly awesome people only.

How many books do I read?

2-3 in a week.

Do I judge a book by it's cover?

Hmm... Yes and no, the cover is what attracts my attention initially, thereafter, if the first and last paragraph of the book doesn't hold my attention it doesn't matter how interesting the cover is.

What did I read as a child?

Goose bumps, Anne of green gables, Sweet Valley, Nancy Drew, Thomas@

My all time favourite book?

All of the David Gemmell books.

1. How many ebooks do you have?

  Around twelve hundred I think..

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?

- Romance
- Paranormal
- Young Adult
I don't have a specific series of choice because it usually depends on my mood..

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.

If I have time to read I usually read 2 to 3 books per day.. But if I have classes I usually read 6 per week..

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D

Of course I do.. There are books that if I don't like the cover I don't even read the blurb :P

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?

The Harry Potter and Inheritance series..

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?

There are books that I have read more than twenty times each but I don't have a specific one.. Is too difficult to choose..

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
 About 500 gb

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
  Romance (1-historical,2- paranormal, 3-science fiction, 4-steampunk)

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
  4 per week on average

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D
Almost always---I look for ratings by readers as well. Forums like this one tempt me to try new authors when other posters highly recommend them.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
How to books--I wasn't much of a reader.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone--it got me reading with my kids now I read 4-5 books a week.

PS yes I'm a digital hoarder. I read on my iphone, android, tablet and computer. Unfortunately I have 8 full bookshelves of my favorite authors as well.

As soon as I started reading (before I discovered share sites) I'd buy lots off ebay of the latest books. I always buy a paper copy and digital of my favorite authors new books. Sometimes it is just nicer to grab a paperback and head to the beach to read. I re read  and am rarely tempted to throw out my collection (have donated tons to the library when I got doubles). PS there are really nice fabric boxes to store paperbacks in on the shelves (I get mine at London Drugs and Michaels).

For those of you that use calibre, do you still keep separate copies in other folders? Once I add a book to  calibre I delete the file from wherever it was stored previously. I do however keep backups of all the book folders and the calibre library folders on two separate external HD's.

I do the same thing. I keep all my books in calibre and then delete the original from the folder it was downloaded to. I've been a bit busy lately so I do have books in a few folders waiting for me to enter them in calibre.

I also keep backups of everything on an external harddrive. I haven't done it for awhile though and only have about 1/2 my books done.

1) How many ebooks?
According to calibre I have 7,204. Then a few hundred in various folders.

2) Favorite genre?
A tie between zombies, dystopian & post apocalyptic. I enjoy mystery thrillers too.

3) How often do you read?
I read every day. I set my Goodreads goal to 104 each year and always go over.

4) Do you judge a book by its cover?
    I sure do!!!!!

5) Favorite books as a child?
I have NO IDEA! For some reason I can't remember what I read back then. :)

6) Favorite book of all time.
Not just one book... but a series - The Newsflesh series by Mira Grant. Loved it!

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.

14000+ .... yup, I'm a proud digital hoarder  :D

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?

*Romance-
1. Contemporary (1. Mystery/Thriller, 2.Drama, 3. Paranormal/Fantasy, 4. Chick-lit, 5.Sci-fi)
2. Historical
3. Young Adult (1. Contemporary, 2. Mystery/Thriller, 3. Drama, 4. Paranormal/Fantasy, 5. Sci-fi)
4. Classics

* Business - As a business graduate I try to make a habit of reading books from this genre.
* Classics
* Psychology - I don't read them often, but it's a interesting subject matter to me.
* Graphic Design - I am interested in this area.

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.

When I'm in the mood, & the time permits too, I can finish average 3/4 books in a week. & I have a tendency to re-read my favorite books  :).

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D

Not really! It's usually the tittle/book name that catches my eyes initially. But, yes, if the cover is really nice I'll make a note to read the blurb & read some reviews/friends ratings to decide whether I want to add it to my Goodread to-read list or not.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?

Comic books! Lol  :D   Me & my brother had hundreds of comic books. & I was crazy for fairytale, fantasy & children thriller/adventure books. I was a big fan of Tarzan & Mogli  too! :)

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?

Yes I do!

One series in my native language, which is Bangla - a young adult thriller series named "Tin Goyenda (or Three Ditectives)". There are like more than 300 books in this series.

& another series in English - Harry Potter.  :)

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
I have about 6000 ebooks, and a bit more of the paper ones ( great for insulation, by the way...) most of which I've read at least twice.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
I like shifters, vampires, YA, (historical) romance, erotica, thrillers; and the order depends of the mood I'm in. But I read almost anything.

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
At least a book a day. More if I can, up to 20 books a week if I'm in reading mode, and I sleep a lot less !

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D
Never. I go by the title, and the read the back cover. Then I buy it. Usually I can't even tell you the color of the cover !

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
I liked The Famous Five and Agatha Christie.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
I do, but it changes every week...  :P
I'd say the Artemis Fowl series, by Eoin Colfer (I know, it's kids stuff, but still, it's great ! And funny).

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
About 500.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
- adult fantasy / paranormal romance
- fantasy
- sci/fi

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
That depends on my mood. Sometimes I read 10 in a week and then I don't read anything for 2 weeks. Right now I'm on a Doctor Who 2005-complete-series-re-run-marathon, trying to catch up to the season finale on saturday. So no books until after.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D
Haven't done that since my earlier teens. Cover can be beautiful and the book rubbish. Many of my books have awful covers but amazing stories. I judge by synopsis and the first chapter or the first few sites.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
Can't really place the genres so I'll post some titles. Momo, The Night of Wishes, Anne of Greengables, St. Clare's.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
Though it's not my favorite book anymore, it has been my fav for the longest time: The Raven series by Richard Kirk I had all 5 books in one huge paperback. I can't decide what my favorite book is right now, too many brilliant ones out there.

Just a heads-up for all you lovely readers out there:  if you ever want to move Folders (that contain files) from your computer/laptop to another device such as your; computer, external hard disk drive, USB stick, etc., please copy the Folder (instead of moving it) to your other device.  Then check the (moved) Folder to make sure all the files are there.

Or if you don't want to copy a Folder, please start a new Folder and then move the files to the new Folder.

Some of us had our files deleted when we moved Folders, thinking the files were safe!  :'(

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
Embarrassingly, it's probably only around a dozen. I really should have more ebooks, it's not like I have enough space for all the physical copies I own. Oops.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
Contemporary fiction, historical non-fiction, Dystopia, Sci-Fi, Romance. This isn't so much in order because honestly it changes.

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
2-3 a month? On average.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D
I have been known to buy new copies of books I already own because they got reprinted with a shiny new cover. (And otherwise, yes.)

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
Mostly sci-fi and fantasy. Less Epic Space Operas and High Fantasy Swords and Sorcery and more like "kids stumble into an alien and find out the Earth is being invaded" and "girl discovers she can use an old family heirloom to travel through time"--both things I actually read as a kid.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
The Andalite Chronicles by KA Applegate.
