So I'm feeling nosey/curious...
« on: August 21, 2012, 09:14 AM »
Since we all love books here I thought I might ask a few questions. Feel free to answer if you want. :) I'll give my answers in another post after this.

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
I'm not a hoarder... Ok, maybe a digital hoarder. But that's not bad right?

Here are my answers to my own questions. Since I'm sure you all are dying to know.  :D

1. I'm not sure of an exact number, but its probably at least 10,000! Collecting ebooks is one of my favorite hobbies. Yes. I know I have issues.  ;D

2. My favorite types of books :
    1 - Anything zombie/apocalyptic/dystopian.
2 - Fiction w/crime, serial killers (no I am not one I swear lol), thriller, horror.
3 - Christian fiction/amish fiction.. Stuff like that.
4 - Love any series like the Miss Julia or any book that is set in small southern town with fun characters.
5 - True crime - not something I read often but it does interest me.
6 - Biographies - again, not something I read a lot of but there are some that I find very good.

3. I try to read at least 1 book a week. If I'm on a roll or I've found a good series and gotten hooked I can get sucked in and not come up for air until I've read them all right in a row. lol

4. Yes, I do. I know all the judgey judgers in this forum who shall not be named will judge me for this. (You know who you are!)  ;D Certain covers just don't appeal to me and I will move right past them.

5. I read lots of books when I was a kid. Some of my favorite types were things like The Boxcar Children, Mandy By. Julie Andrews Edwards, Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley, anything by R.L. Stine or Christopher Pike were also awesome.

6. The Diary Of Anne Frank is my all time favorite book. I was given this book by my aunt when I was 13 and I have always loved it.

I'm not a hoarder... Ok, maybe a digital hoarder. But that's not bad right?

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
-> er, less than 1000 books, I guess? Didn't know since my ebooks are scattered in my laptop. :D

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
->YA. That would be Paranormal and Dystopian. Then Contemporary. :)

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
-> I've been reading non stop for quite some time now. I read one book a day.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D
-> Er, I mostly pick books based on the cover. So if it's pretty, then I'll pick it up. I guess I am? :azn:

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
->I like Snow White, Rapunzel, Bambi... uh, Dumbo? ;D

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
-> Harry Potter books, Vampire Academy. :)

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
Umm maybe around 630-ish.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
It's pretty much all paranormal with some dystopian thrown in there.

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
Most of the time it's one a day or two and then other times it's one in a week or so.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!
Yes. If a book has an ugly cover don't want to read it.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
I didn't really have any.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
It's not really favorite books but the series are Guild Hunter and The Hollows.

Oh poo I forgot Chicagoland Vampires

Err probably getting past 6000 now I have the same problem dontbreakme lol I pick up books I know I will probably never read. I guess I just like to have the option to read them if I want to.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
Right now contemporary romance, but I read by my moods. lol I think my all-time favorite genre is Historical Romance. So in order it would be....
1) Historical
2) Contemporary
3) Paranormal
4) Young Adult
5) Dystopian
6) Biographies

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
I try for 2 a week but it doesn't always work so at least one a week. Hopefully lol

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!  :D

HAHA nah no judging from me this time :P I do it too I try not to because a lot of good books are hidden behind ugly ass covers but its hard. lol So yes I do and yes I am more likely to pick up a pretty cover then an ugly one.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
I read some boxcar children and R.L. Stein but Harry Potter is what really got me into reading.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
Kiss an Angel and Ain't She Sweet by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and the Harry Potter books.

This was a great idea Dontbreakme!

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
According to Calibre, 3,521 and I've read 672 of those haha.  Most of my collection are probably books within a series. I won't start a book without purchasing/downloading the rest of the series.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
I stick mainly to romances: Contemporary, Paranormal, the occasional Historical.

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
Usually 1-2 books a day depending on the length, 4-6 a week.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!
Yup. If a book cover looks too cheesy or looks like no effort was made to impress, then I'll skip it.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
I memorized most of Dr. Seuss' books by the time I was 5 (haha, I can recite Green Eggs & Ham and The Cat in the Hat still). I was really into mythology also.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
Nope. I'm so indecisive, I can never pick a favorite.

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
10,242 and it says that I've read 337. Goodreads has a different, higher, number but I figure that has more to do with my hard drive dying. I figure I've read 1/10th maybe a little more. But I download books for a lot of people I may never read. I do keep them just in case they lose their hard drive.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
Romances: Contemporary, Paranormal, Cowboys are a favorite.

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
1-2 books a day, 7 days a week.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!
Totally.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
I loved Little Women & Little House on the Prairie

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
No. There are a couple that I'll re-read but no real favorite.

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.
OK lol I have 10 books at the moment. lol I know pitiful lol but my comp crashed and I have been using my sons school comp and some ancient comp I had in the garage. So I can't keep anything I download.

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
Is there a genre for depressing emotionally haunting books? Books that make you hurt physically and emotionally for the characters. Yeah I am weird I know! Second fav dystopia, zombies, then paranormal like vamps and weres and chic lit

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
I usually read a book a day, or try to.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!
OMG YES! I know that is awful but I do. Doesn't mean I won't give it a chance though!

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
I like Stephen King books, anything to scare the crap out of me. I would only read during the daytime! LOL But I won't watch scary movies! Yes, I know, there is something seriously wrong with me!

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
Ummm No, nothing that I can say is my all time favorite. I am always waiting for the next book that will WOW and throw me for a wicked ride!

1. I think it's around 1,500. And I have around 2,000 on paper. My bookcase is huge, well actually I have 6 lol.

2. Contemporary Romance, Chick Lit, Historical Romance, YA, Suspense, Thriller, Drama. I'll read practically anything, except paranormal/supernatural and some adult books (no m/m, f/f, menage, group smex, or shapeshifters for me).

3. Usually, at least one per day, so 7 a week, some HPs in the middle. I am an avid reader and when I was young, my parents' form of punishment was to take away my books so I couldn't read.

4. Yes! Totally! My dealbreaker, though, is not the cover, but H/h's names. I can't get over bad names.

5. Pretty much the same as know, and every book I found in my house lol. I used to read a lot the Babysitter Club, Danielle Steel, Sidney Sheldon, Howard Fast, Robin Cook, Louisa May Alcott, AJ Quinnell, Francis Roe, Amy Tan. Many YA collections that my aunt left behind when she moved out, and books that once belonged to my grandma and my uncle. We were required to read at least 15 books per year when I was in school, so I read a lot. I remember in 7th grade, we read Dracula, The Catcher in the Rye, The Wizard of Oz, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and some Spanish classics, and we got to see the Lion King lol, so it was a good year.

6. I actually don't have an absolute favourite. It's constantly changing. Some of the books I remember the most are The Gamble by LaVyrle Spencer, Born in Sin by Kinley MacGregor, Second Opinion by Francis Roe, The Blue Ring by AJ Quinnell, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

Well counting all the free ones from Barnes and Noble also, about 3000 I guesstimated

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?
           Science fiction/fantasy, horror, mystery

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.
I try to read at least 1 book a week.

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!
Sadly yes I do. Not all the time, but the cover is what gets my attention.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?
              Fantasy

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?
Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel and Meg by Steve Alten

1. How many ebooks do you have? It doesn't have to be an exact number.

considering I just cleaned up my old Demonoid Torrents I downloaded but had not added [minus the ones on Latin and ancient greek]  and not counting disks with Zip Files...   Best Guesstimate is 9000 on Harddrive

2. What are your favorite genre's to read and in what order?

Mystery:  All sub genres
Science Fiction:  esp Military and mystery
Fantasy:  urban mystery and military
Historical: mystery, military, some romance
Nonfiction: History, religion [historical], languages ie ancient Greek, Latin, military
Humor

3. How often do you read? 1 book per week, 3 a month, etc.

average about 1 book a day.  I'm a speed reader.  One book about the size of  Johanna Lindsey an evening is about my speed

4. Do you judge a book by its cover? Don't lie!

No.  I judge a book by its first two chapters, last two chapters and a couple pulled out of the middle.

5. What kinds of books were your favorites as a child?

Anything the library had on the shelves.  By the time I was 10, I was reading in the adult sections.

6. Do you have a favorite all time book? If so what is it?

No.  I have favorite all time authors such as Robert Crais, Michael Connelly, Ed McBain and all time favorite series such as Dana Stabenow's Kate and her Liam.

LOL how many of them have you read so far? Out of the 10,000?

Around 1000 of them I've read prior to owning them in ebook format. I just like having the whole collection in ebooks now. I've read maybe 400 - 500 of the rest since I've been collecting ebooks over the last 4 years.
I'm not a hoarder... Ok, maybe a digital hoarder. But that's not bad right?

Me too. I don't want to feel like I've missed something! I'm the same way with a tv series. If I cannot watch it from the beginning I will not watch it at all. lol

Damn I am bored, so sure why not.

1. This one is hard since I literally(HaHa) have books all over the place, but my guesstimate is around <500, that is including physical copies.

2. Fiction: Fantasy, all kinds of Scify, Paranormal when I succeed in finding something that isn't just a sub-plot to romance, Steampunk, Mystery preferably mixed with horror, Cyberpunk, Dieselpunk, Alternate History, Crime.
Non-Fiction: Science, Psychology, Philosophy, Technology, Futurism.

Since I just started my third and last year at my current school, I have had to tone down some, but I still manage to read at least one fiction book รก week and about one non-fiction every two to three months that isn't school related.

Me thinks that every non-blind human being, judge first on the visual and then later with the other senses. Applying that to books, I once picked up some simply because I liked the cover and found the back description interesting, and then ending up regretting immensely.
Needless to say (But I will write it down anyway) I learned my lesson.

When I was very young I really did not find reading books interesting, then along came Harry Potter, and the rest as they say..

I really do not believe in favourites. That and I am one of those people who needs a very varied selection of things to do since I am so easily bored.
I'm what happens when you read a book widdershins. Tock Tick, tock tick.

Half the joy of reading a good book is finding it.
