What are you reading? (November 2011)
« on: November 03, 2011, 05:22 PM »
My weekly "what are you reading threads" have not been getting a lot of activity :( so I have decided to make them monthly instead of weekly. This is the first of the monthly threads so please feel free to discuss any books that you are reading, or plan to read, what you think about recently read books or ask questions about books others are reading.

The rules of the thread are simple:

This is a 'discussion only' board. No uploads or requests will be tolerated and will be deleted without warning. Please be courteous and follow the posted rules. Thank you.

I am also going to lock all of the other threads.

Enjoy! ;D

what's a mythical water horse?  ???

I have absolutely no idea. :) To be honest I've never been interested in mythology, so I didn't know anything about them. Here's the link to her website where she explains her obsession with writing about water horses. It's pretty cool. I guess she gave it a number of attempts over the years.

Even though the water horses in her book were fascinating, it's really her characters that pulled me in.

Considering only November, I have read 'An Engagement in Seattle' by Debbie Macomber and am currently reading 'The Eight' by Katherine Neville.
Have you checked this out yet?

 Hello

i am reallly obsesing about The strange angels series by Lilli StCrow read all books. Just Read the last one  :'(  you have to give it a try:)). I am not crazy about teenage fiction but this one was really interesting and different than all the damsel in distress types. I also enjoyed isle Of Night by Veronica Wolf. I am running out of things to read & i would like to start a new Series but one that does not involve a new love story with an existing character  with happy ending i already read to much of those
by the way loved Karen Moning Fever Series.

If you liked these you might want to try her Dante Valentine and Jill Kismet series. Not YA, but super good. I'll give her strange angels series a try.

I just finished Crossed and was trying to decide what to read next. After discussing it with ems338 I decided to read The Old Man and the Wasteland. It was a really fast and fun book. Started last night and finished it this morning.
Now I'm moving on to Rot & Ruin.

After hearing so many good reviews, I just finished Maggie Stiefvater's Scorpio Races. I enjoyed it immensely; did I hear correctly that it's supposed to be a trilogy or quartet?
I don't know what I'll read next...something fun though!

I was wondering the same thing, so I went to her website but didn't find any info on it. I hope so though!!!

Not at all, imo. In Hunger Games, Katniss is forced to participate in a BattleRoyale-style game that is used to control the outlying sectors. In Scorpio Races, it's a dangerous race with prize money and no one is forced to compete.

Well Rot & Ruin was fantastic!!! If you like zombie books I recommend it. Since it was so good I decided to continue the series with Dust & Decay. I'm almost finished.

Then it's on to Hollowmen.

And the zombie books continue...

Too many books! Argh...i'm like a kid on Halloween night- so much candy in front of me and I want to eat it all right now!  ;D

currently I am reading quite a few books- I started Crossed by Ally Condie (only got to Ch 6 before I lost interest...), The Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh (finished book #1, Archangel's Blood, but never got around to starting the second one...) and the Fifty Shades series by E.L. James (Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker- finished book one and went right into the second). I might try starting The Scorpio Races next because I've heard a lot about it...

@ereader- I love zombies but have never read a zombie book (seriously addicted- zombie movies, zombie video games, I even have a zombie poster above my bed....lol). What zombie book would you recommend I read first? Which ones are the best?

I just finished reading Love's Road Home by Lisa Lewis. God, what a BORING book. Literally, nothing happens. I'd heard really good things about this one and I was so disappointed...

I have a few  books waiting for me but I don't know where to start.
Has anyone read  Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star by Heather Lynn Rigaud?
And I also have vengeance (Private #14), which is the last one in the series, so I guess should start with that.

Jessidia, here is a list of my favorites, in no particular order.

Dead Living - Glenn Bullion
Feed / Deadline (Newsflesh Trilogy) - Mira Grant
Hollowland - Amanda Hocking
Aftertime / Survivors / Rebirth (Aftertime series) - Sophie Littlefield
Warm Bodies - Isaac Marion
Allison Hewitt is Trapped - Madeleine Roux
Rot & Ruin / Dust & Decay (Benny Imura series) - Jonathan Maberry
Ex-Heroes - Peter Clines

I think my first zombie book might have been Hollowland by Amanda Hocking (I really can't remember) so maybe start there. It really doesn't matter they are all SO good.

I'd like to add to this list the Living with the Dead series by Jesse Petersen and My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland. Also, the Forest of Hands and Teeth series by Carrie Ryan.

I'm currently reading Trust in Advertising and can't put it down. I was up till 4 am reading last night. I tried putting it down around 2am but I just laid there and thought about it so I picked it back up. I just love books like that! Before this, I read Every Other Day by Jennifer Barnes and I liked it way more than I thought I would. I also just finished Hollowmen by Amanda Hocking and Hocking did it again! Oh, and I also read Breathe by Abbi Glines. It was short but a super cute book.

On the zombie topic.. Yeah I just finished hollowmen, I really liked it but thought the first book was better. I still can't wait for the next book ofc, gotta figure out what happens to Remy. As for the Forrest of hands and teeth.. It was good, I think it's a staple book for the zombie lovers diet but it's not the kind of book I could read again. It's a very serious, kinda depressing book in the way that it deals with death, it's very "real". I think the Benny Imura series hit the nail on the head balancing concepts of death, family, moving on, and first love in a real way but at the end you just feel more, I dunno, fulfilled? Happy?? Hopeful? Those are books I know I'll read again. I have downloaded some more of Jonathan maberrys zombie books, I'll see how they read. I have recently read a bunch more zombie things cuz I found a nice listing on goodreads. I don't remember them all offhand so I'll post again later.

I loved Rot and Ruin, The forest of Hands and Teeth, AWESOME! I am trying to find something new to read I like series that don't change characters every book and have good twists and turns. Sometimes I feel like I have read every book out there.....
