Author Topic: What are your fave books in each genre? Week 2: Paranormal Romance (Oct 2- 9)  (Read 13575 times)

Offline jessadia

I have seen several people asking for suggestions for books, so I thought maybe we could start a weekly thread where everyone can pop in and list their favorite book from a different genre every week.

This week's poll winner is:

Paranormal Romance

...they don't have to be strictly YA or Adult. Just list your favorites and maybe a reason why or a quick summary.

*I am going to include a poll at the top so everyone can vote for which genre to feature next week. (I included an "other" option...please specify in a post which genre. Thanks)

 Enjoy!! :)

If you're looking for angels and demons, the best 2 options are: The Lords of the Underworld Series By Gena Showalter and The Demonica Series By Larissa Ione. What more can I say about these series but, HOT! HOT! HOT!-oh and the stories are made of awesome. ;)

Offline jessadia

thanks for that, but this week's genre is PNR.... so what's your fave's in that genre?

There are way too many for me to decide but one that made a lasting impression was Hereafter by Tara Hudson

Offline Kallisti

It says books, plural, so I'll just write down some series.

Fever series, by Karen Moning
It has an interesting twist on the Fae, with nice character development

Anita Blake or Merry Gentry series, by Laurell K. Hamilton
Great "adult romance" scenes, with a more...how to put it...uninhibited view on relationships

Mercy Thompson or Alpha & Omega series, by Patricia Briggs
The inter-play between male and female characters is quite fun

Argeneaux series, by Lynsay Sands
One of the more interesting twists on "vampire"

Sunshine, by Robin McKinley
The worst thing about this book is that it isn't the first in a series. Otherwise, it's fantastic.

Offline Mei

There are really many PNR books around...

I liked:

Sydney Croft - ACRO series - it's kind of X-man romance, with lot of spice! ;)
Laurann Dohner - New Species series - similar to Lora Leigh Breeds
Christine Feehan - Leopard series - shapeshifters
Ava Gray - Skin series - special abilities
Leslie Parrish - Extrasensory Agents series - psychic investigations
Nalini Singh - Psy Changelings

etc, etc... there are soooo many....

I loved:

Because they were sweet and simple, yet awesome:
Ripple-Mandy Hubbard
Hereafter-Tara Hudson
Forgotten-Cat Patrick

Just because they were awesome:
Significance- Shelly Crane
Tempus-Tyra Lynn
Only Love is Real- Brian Weiss (not YA)
The Soul Screamers series-Rachel Vincent (definitely!!)

*I only listed books that I haven't mentioned in my other lists, because they didn't fit the genre
Reading is a journey of the mind :)

Thank you for your Thank you ;)

Kissed by an Angel Trilogy by Elizabeth Chandler (Kissed by an Angel, The Power of Love, and Soulmates)

A love beyond life... a danger beyond doubt

When her boyfriend, Tristan, died, Ivy thought she'd lost everything, even her faith in angels. But now she's discovered that he's her guardian angel- his presence so strong that she can feel the touch of his hand, the beat of his heart. Ivy needs Tristan now more than ever because he knows she's in terrible danger. Only Ivy's guardian angel can save her, now that his killer is after her.
But if Tristan rescues Ivy, his mission on Earth will be finished, and he must leave her behind forever. Will saving Ivy mean losing her just when he's finally reached her again?

I couldn't put these books down when I read them! It's like one of those movies where you find out what's happening before the main character does. I was mentally telling Ivy to open her freaking EYES to what she's missing/not understanding. They're really good.

Quite surprised that no one seems to have mentioned the Blackdagger Brotherhood Series by J.R Ward... or perhaps that just goes without saying??

These books are amazingly kick-ass, and make me feel like I'm part of the action.

Long live the Brotherhood (though they are all immortal, so that was kinda silly to say...)

Woop woop!

I'd say Lora Leigh's Breeds series are my great. Very good plots, credible and consistent characters, HOT scenes, the works.

Also, Shelly Laurenston's Pride and Pack series. These are FUN!!! You will laugh out loud! with the dialogues, the characters are truly enjoyable and the plots are good.

I agree with the ACRO series by Sydney Croft. Good!

Of course Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/jayne Castle's Arcane Society series are a classic one cant simly not read...

I'm not sure if it's really Paranormal Erotica but I LOVED the New Species series by Laurann Dohner. The men there are crazy hot and protective of their women. Those interested shud definitely check them out!

Offline CausticPandora

Paranormal, eh?  ;D I guess it's safe to assume that this genre would include Fairies/Faeries/Fey, Siren/Mermaid, and Mythology :))

Faeries...you must think that I'm some 7-year-old-kid, but no I most definitely am not. I'm drawn to the Fairy genre a lot because A Midsummer Night's Dream, a play by the famous English playwright, William Shakespeare, is one of my favorites :) My favorite for this would be The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa, Wings Series by Aprilynn Pike, and Wicked Lovely Series by Melissa Marr, of course Wondrous Strange Series by Lesley Livingston, and, I hate myself for nearly forgetting it, the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer. I can't help but love the Criminal-turned-Hero :)

Sirens and Mermaids...what more can I say? Both are rumored to lure people to their deaths with their captivating songs. Besides, My favorite tale as a child was The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen :) I definitely like the Siren by Tricia Rayburn, there is also Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs, Ripple by Mandy Hubbard, Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs, Mermaid, a re-telling of the story The Little Mermaid, by Carolyn Turgeon, and Dark Tides by Devyn Quinn. I'm still waiting for the final book of this one though.

Witches/Warlock...Wiccan :P hehehe...Well It's because it seems like this genre is sort of difficult to write, that's why I deeply appreciate authors who chose this genre. Harry Potter tops this list, because I sort of grew up with the movie, and I definitely love how J.K. Rowling came up with the spells and history and curses and all :) Wicked by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguié, Witch Song by Amber Argyle, and Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins :))

Mythology...I've got nothing to say about this, except that I've been interested in mythology since I was young. I was attracted most to Greek Mythology though :) My first on the List would be Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Kane Chronicles, and Heroes of Olympus...What can I say? I love how Rick Riordan alternates the storytelling between the characters :) Next Would be Goddess Summoning and Partholon by P.C. Cast, and then there's Goddess Testby Aimee Carter :))

For The Supernatural, I'm all hands-down on Night World Series by Lisa Jane Smith, It's got everything :D There's also Pittacus Lore :) It's not sci-fi, right? There's also Georgina Kincaid Series by Richelle Mead and my favorite Banshee, whoops let me correct that, Bean Sidhe Story, Soul Screamers by Rachel Vincent. The whole series was definitely a fresh read and it was a rare thing, as far as I've not noticed not many YA authors opt for the less know side of...the supernatural :)

Well that's about it ;D

P.S. I'm quite the talkative reader :) so, sorry if my post was quite long
