Author Topic: What are your fave books in each genre? Week 6:Fantasy/Urban Fantasy  (Read 7789 times)

Offline Suike

With all the threads Jessadia has going on, I have volunteered to assist her in a couple of her threads.  Hopefully I can keep it as entertaining as Jessadia has been doing.

With several people asking for suggestions for books, Jessadia thought maybe we could start a weekly thread where everyone can pop in and list their favorite book from a different genre every week.

This week's poll winner is:

Fantasy/Urban Fantasy

...they don't have to be strictly YA or Adult. Just list your favorites and maybe a reason why or a quick summary. (The books do not have to have both species, can be either or both)

I am going to include a poll at the top so everyone can vote for which genre to feature next week. (I included an "other" option...please specify in a post which genre. Thanks)

 Enjoy!!

My all time favorite urban fantasy books are the Mortal Instruments Series.  Cassandra Clare really has outdone herself in these books.  Great heroine and the love interest, Jace is swoon worthy!  All the other characters are well developed, the story moves along at a good pace and it's full of suprises you never saw coming

I agree- TMI is one of my all time favorite series! and Jace isn't just swoon worthy- he's worthy of stalking, kidnapping, and various acts involving handcuffs ;)

Another UF favorite is the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa- and I'd have Ash tied up right next to Jace ;)

I loved  MIS but The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa is much, much, much, much superior to Cassandra Clare.

I'm sad to say that because I'm a GREAT(huge even) fan of Cassandra Clare since she wrote one of the most perfect Harry Potter Fanfiction of history. So if you enjoyed MIS you will love Iron fey.

Why Iron Fey is my best Fantasy book:

1 -I don't have words to describe Iron fey, it is not just a story, it is a life experience. The writting is so good it makes you rethink what you would pick up next to read. It makes you want for books like that, and think: "Wow, why the others authors don't write like this?"

2 - The Characters are so different and so charming that you fell in love with ALL of them, even the bad ones. Even the ones that you are not supposed to fell for. And their voices are so original and strong that even if all their names were cut off the book you would know immediately who is speaking.

3 - One of the most beautiful love stories I've ever read.

4 - Many kinds of love. As in brothers, friendship, romance, parents. It makes you feel it all.

5 - Funny. No, I'm wrong. The most fun book I've ever read. (And I read a lot) I laugh so much that tears came down my cheeks. My mother thought I got crazy looking at the computer and LMAO.

6 - There are great "messages" all over the book.

7 - The Adventure is overwhelming. There are a lot of action, romance, originality, surprises...

8- There were so many passages that I loved, and so many breathtaken scenes that I had to stop and reread, like, 10 times, and every time I finished I said "wow". How can a human being be capable of writing this?"

I wish I could say more, but if I'm afraid of spoiling it. :D

it's the draco trilogy: draco dormiens, draco sinister and draco veeritas. you won't find it on any fanfic sites cause cassandra asked for it to be taken down..

Urban fantasy? Neverwhere comes to mind, but most people agree that Neil Gaiman is a great writer - that one's easy.

Off the top of my head, I can only remember one other series, but it's brilliant. Sergey Lukyanenko's four-part Watch series. Great read all around.

I think the coolest book I have read in this genre is The Elemental Series by Jennifer Estep. Gin Blanco a.k.a The Spider is a kickass heroine and doesn't take shit from anyone.
