Favorite novel to movie/TV series adaptations
« on: May 31, 2012, 12:21 AM »
Hi guys!  :)
Since one of Hollywood's favorite things to do right now is to adapt popular novels into movies or TV series. I thought it would be good idea to ask what your favorite novel to movie/ TV series adaptations are. It can be Ya/ fiction/ fantasy / romance etc..
I'd also like to know what upcoming novel adaptation are you excited about.
Which novel/novel series you want to be made into a movie or TV series.
Which actor/actress you want to portray the characters.
Which is your least favorite novel adaptation.

You could have more than one favorite or least favorite.

If people say they just love the smell of books, I always want to pull them aside and ask, To be clear, do you know how reading works?

Dexter and True Blood have to be some of the best series that have been adapted to Tv from books.

I was disappointed with the first Percy Jackson movie. it wasn't anywhere close to the book. I'm hoping they get it right with the second one because it has the potential to be the next Harry Potter and the Percy Jackson book series is my favorite.

IKR!I mean they could have done better. They won't even bother to change Anabeth's haircolor  :(

I too thought the best so far has been harry potter, true blood, lord of the rings, the hunger games, the notebook and I have to say my sister's keeper was great (and made me cry) even though it had a different ending. The worst definitely has to be twilight, they totally ruined the books :-\ I am hoping the movies for the mortal instruments and fifty shades of grey will turn out good and do the books justice *fingers crossed* ::)

I was most dissapointed with "One for the Money"
I thought that they could have chosen a better guy :(

My fave book to TV adaptation is True Blood!

I'm really hoping that the Dark Tower series by Stephen King gets made into a movie!

I, too, love Harry Potter Adaptation. I actually know the lines of Sirius Black, Lupin and Wormtail when they finally met in HP3.

"Sirius? Lupin? My old friends!" My dad laughed when I said the lines of wormtail exactly as it is with voice imitations. :3

I'm excited too with City of Bones. :3

BTW, Jessadia, here's another pic.  >:D

I thought when I first saw him, he's goodlooking. but seeing this...  :-[ :-[ :banghead: :021: Why did I think of that??

Worst adaption, Ella Enchanted. They took her curse and the names, but that was the closest they got to the book. Then it started and things go downhill.

Loved the Tomorrow when the war began adaption, except Ellie drives a tractor through town at the start. A tractor without a cab.

Percy Jackson the adaption changed a lot, but I enjoyed the movie anyway.

One of my all time favourite adaptations to film from a novella has to be Brokeback Mountain.
But I can only watch it like onnce a year because I get too emotional otherwise!!  :'(

Am I a minority here because as much as I love JKR's HP series I am not thrilled with the movie adaptations. The only ones that I loved are the first one (w/c made me read the series in the first place), and the fourth one (I really loved the adaptation). The COS I also like because I think it captured the spirit of the book and the only thing that I love about POA is the Ron/Hermione moments (IMO, this is the only movie who captured perfectly the dynamics of their romance and this is the movie where I think the chemistry between Rupert and Emma are the strongest). OOTP was a letdown because I'm really looking forward to Dumbledore/Voldemort epic duel and I hope they stayed true with what happened to the books. The magic that was imbibed during the duel on the books was truly awesome and the movie version paled in comparison. The water thingy? Meh. Give me the enchanted statues Dumbledore made on the book and the rope-thingy that Voldie made. I won't even ramble about the last three movies because I just don't like them. Especially the last one.

On the other hand, I love Message in the Bottle movie so much that I loved it much better than the book. It has better pacing I believe compared to the book. The book could be better I think with a little more editing.

Well, LOTR for me hits just the right spot. It still is for me the standard for excellent movie to book adaptation. The movie made me aware of the book; the book in turn made me appreciate the movie more since I could now follow the flow of the screenplay.

Whoo. Hope there'll be LOTR-type adaptations in the future. Ha!

Lord of Rings? - yep, Harry Potter? - Yep, Brokeback Mtn?- Yep, the Shipping News? - YepTrue blood? -  ???are you kidding me, the books are great & the series is great but it is nothing like the books - the names are the same but the characters are so not.
Chocolate - movie & film different but this time in a good way - maybe it's better because I saw the film before I read the book.
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - I thought nothing could match the original BBC tv series which was completely fab but the movie was excellent.
Truly Bad - The Dark is Rising Sequence, made into a movie called The Seeker - pitiful; as was The Golden Compass.
Worst Ever - has to be Troy with Brad Pitt as Achilles - I'm sure Homer (all 7 of him must have been rolling in his grave) Patrokles his cousin ??? ??? the Rape of Briseus a love story ??? :o ??? oh please - it was truly woeful. >:( >:( Kat
