Kindle is FROZEN
« on: February 01, 2013, 06:30 AM »
Okay.. Now i've only had my kindle -Jace- no more than 7months :/ (not so long i know)
& the other day it just froze. It went to a white screen.. then froze on the front page.. yaknow the picture with the boy sitting under the tree? well that page!
anyways..
I tried charging it overnight. No change.
I tired just letting it die.. wait a few days..then charging it up again.
Still No Change.
Tried pushing the buttons (There's only two) - limited options with that.
Nada change.
It won't work.
Can't take it back to the store i purchased it from coz i lost my receipt!

& tbh.. this is the first place i've asked/looked for answers lol
Maybe i should google search.
But PTS peepz are pretty brainy.. so i'll ask here first then search elsewhere :)

I have no idea what triggered it to freeze or what to do now :/

No idea if this will help you or not, but here's two things that might help...

You don't say if your Kindle is the Kindle Keyboard, or one of the other models, but I had something similar happen to my Kimy (Kindle Keyboard).

Slide AND HOLD the power button for 30 seconds. This puts the Kindle into a RESTART mode; don't freak if it turns on, and you dont' see any books - it might take a few minutes to completely "boot up" and catalog the library.

If that doesn't work, then contact Amazon's Kindle support group. They are WONDERFUL about customer service, and you probably won't need your receipt for a replacement if necessary.

Good luck!

Thank you for the help!?!
I may just have to ring the Kindle Support group.
I've tried the hold for 30secs step. The page just sorta blinks.. then stays the same!
Oh & it's a Kindle Touch.

But thanks for replying anyhow :)

I've had really good luck with their customer service. Not that I've had a lot of problems with mine, but my MIL dropped hers (amazon replaced it), my mother had issues (Amazon assisted and fixed it), friend had a screen go bad (Amazon replaced it)...

If you send it back, you may want to connect it to our computer and wipe it clean first :)

Hey that's really good!
Hmm.. yes yes i think i better make contact with them. See what they say :)

- I can't wipe everything, coz it doesn't even connect to the computer. Like the computer doesn't even detect it or anything :/ but it still charges (coz the yellowish light shows)
Totally stuffed right!

Have you tried charging it for a while, then performing the restart procedure by holding the power button/switch for 20 seconds?  If that doesn't work connect it to your computer for a while and see if that helps.

Yeah, when it first happened i charged it overnight on my computer. But the thing is, my computer didn't detect my kindle - even though the light shows on my kindle indicating that it's charging.
I just think its just broken broken.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

In that case I would just take it back to the retailer and ask them to replace it or repair it.

Definitely call Kindle support. Even without a receipt they will know if you're still under warranty by the serial number. My Kindle died not too long ago (same symptoms as yours) but I was beyond the warranty period and had to buy a new one. Amazon did offer me a discount when I called them about my fried Kindle, so it's definitely worth the phone call.

I didn't. I think it comes with a standard one year warranty and my husband generally opts not to get the extended warranty because the device itself isn't too expensive to replace. I think they offered me a reconditioned Kindle for $50. We went ahead and got a new one because it wasn't much more for the most basic device.
