This is so freaking amazing. Kindle Paperwhite (improved screen, refreshes and built in front-lit light) $119. Kindle (buttons) $69. Kindle Fire $159.

Whoohoo! I just ordered mine too. When the Kindle first came out if was almost perfect in what I was looking for in a ereader, but I most definitely needed to be able to read in the dark so it was a no go for me at the time. Now it seems the paper white is exactly perfect for me!  Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE my iPad, but the kindle will be more 'portable' for me, lol! Did you spend the extra $20 to get it 'without special offers'? I wasn't even sure how the whole ad thingy works & didn't want ad's popping up all the time so I decided the extra $20 would be worth it  for me  8) Whew, I think this is the longest message I've ever written but I just couldn't help myself. I'm so fricken excited!!!

I got the special offers too, I got it on the kindle touch last year also. I like getting the SO Iv'e gotten some really great deals on it and the adds don't bother me.

Exactly. Not annoying at all. So many places have taken advantage, I'm glad Amazon didn't.

New Kindle Fire HD is supposed to arrive on Friday!!!

I have an Adam tablet and it was fun to use (it had microSD slot, USB, etc.) but the hype for the software and all its supposed abilities were never met. :(

I have a Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight and it's my favorite so far. I new it wouldn't be long before Amazon had a Kindle with the backlight. You will love having the one simple, light, device that works in daylight or at night. I very rarely ever grab my Original 3G Nook or my Nookcolor anymore. There really isn't a reason to.

Congrats to all of you on your new readers!

Woohoo!!! My Kindle Fire just arrived and I've been setting it up. Books and other media were really easy to upload via the computer. Note: I'm a little computer-literate but not an expert by any means. With 4 hours of ownership, my Kindle rocks! :singing:

How are you liking your fire HD
I think I decided to get the wifi instead of the 3g since I always buy a new kindle when there announced. I just need to cancel my 3g order.

I like it a lot. I have an Adam tablet (software never lived up to the hype) and an iPod touch. It isn't as intuitive as the touch but it's nice, responsive, big (a bit heavy though) and easy to read. My daughter already dropped it once on the tile floor and there was no damage!

lol I bet your heart stopped for a second there. I wonder if someone will make a video of the kindle hd being dropped like the kindle. Glad your liking it.

I am still debating whether to go with the Paperwhite when Canadians can order it, or wait for the new mini pad when it comes out.  Love new toys!
Please excuse any spelling errors.   I have dyslexic fingers!

Ok so I've had a couple of days to play around with the new paperwhite and I love it.

Someone asked about the ads. Well the ads only show up on the bottom of the 1st page of home and after sleep mode.

I did have to look up a few things tho:

  • No book covers! Apparently this is the same as the Fire so all I had to do was go into preferences and click enable sharing of book content and run thru Calibre & they were there.
  • Can't do Collections off Calibre. Have to do them manually. Hope plug in people figure that one out.
  • Make a note. I fix poorly converted ebooks in Calibre so really needed this. Press on word til it highlights then move finger over sentence.
  • How on earth do I turn off Wi-Fi?? Airplane mode. Geesh

All in all I really love the light. It's the reason I bought it and I'm really not disappointed.

Just curious but how do you go about point 1? I can't find a setting for that in the Paperwhite, or are you talking about Calibre? If so, how do I do that?  :o
