Which E-reader are you using?
« on: October 13, 2011, 11:48 PM »
Hi, I wanted to know what is the most bought e-reader and the best place to do so is... here :D

If you have comments or like to expand more about your selection or the reasons - you're welcome! Your experience might help other users when they consider buying an e-reader. By the way, if you have two or more different e-readers you're certainly encouraged to vote for each of them! 8)  (Yes, the vote limit was modified. Much thanks to Mr. Admin!)

Any comments about the poll are also welcome.

All the best and thanks! :)

So far I'm using Calibre since my Kindle PC crashed. I also use Adobe Digital.

I am planning to buy an e-reader, can't decide which one to buy.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

It all depends on what you are looking for:
- A plain reader or a tablet.
- Do you read more in the day, in the sunlight - you would prefer an e-ink reader. If you read more at night you would need a backlit screen.
- Do you want color or would black and white be fine.
- Are touch screens ok??
Best thing to do would be to go to a multi brand outlet and choose from the options. To see what other members are using took at the results of the poll on the top of the page. :)

With tablet comes LCD and hence glare, so I have to opt out of it as it's not the best thing for reading.

I usually don't read in the sunlight but I would like to keep that option open for the sometimes that I do read in sunlight.

I would have loved color but as far as I know it would mean LCD which I am avoiding.

Touch screens should be ok but I have read endless reviews on their too sensitive touch.

Now that I have contradicted all of my statements, you would know how confused I am.

I see the most famous is Kindle (not touch) from the polls. But if it not touch, I wish it was more specified like Kindle Basic or Kindle Keyboard.

Thanks.

It really comes down to personal choices. I have a sony ereader, which was nice, but since I've switched to the ipad have not gone back at all. The lcd is fine for me, i love that it is a complete entertainment package with movies, books, music and internet on one device. Since I read mostly at night the backlit screen is a boon. So there you go, you'll have to choose what suits you best. Happy hunting. :)

I have the Sony PRS-350 Touch Pocket Reader, which has completely changed my way of reading books.  It is small and very portable, has a 5inch infared sensor eInk touchscreen display and can hold over 1000 books (depending on file size).  It doesn't have Wi-Fi, or expandable memory or an audioplayer.  But since I'm mainly using it as a book reader it does the job beautifully.

I have a Sony touch ereader which I absolutely love.  It's helped me to rediscover reading again - I've read more books this past year than I have my entire life.

It's easy to download books but my only downfall is that my ereader sometimes freezes.   Does anyone have the same problem?

If it freezes constantly, use a pen, pencil or the stylist to press the reset button to reset your reader.  It won't erase your books, it will just reset the reader settings and every thing should run smoothly.  I had the exact same problem not long ago, and this fixed it.

I'm using Nook 1st gen. I hate it ! and I don't like BN. I spent 200plus dollars on it and then the cheaper one comes out not to long after that. Their tech support sucks, I had to send it in because the nook froze after a firmware update. It was only a couple of months old. I had to get a refurbished one *rolls eyes* then the new one they sent didn't have updated firmware and I was told that I would have to go BN and they would update it but it would take 30mins.  I hate it but I can't bring myself to purchase a new one.

Hi, All.

My first ereader purchase was a Sony ereader. It was black and white and couldn't download magazines. It was great for my original purpose-to house acadermic articles. But now that my graduate program has completed, I became enamored with "color" and the paper saving options of having my magazines delivered electronically and was gifted the nook tablet. That said, I have books that I purchased through Sony that I'd like to convert to epub, so that I can read them on my Nook. Is that possible? I also purchased one ebook from Kindle and have an ebook certificate from Amazon, but since I have a Nook, I am hesitant to use it unless I can convert the files to read on my Sony and Nook. Can anyone offer some advice? Could the oft-mentioned Calibre help me?

Thanks very much,
Kit

I have a Nook Simple Touch.  It has room for a 32gb micro sd card.  That and my first reader was a Sony is why I have it.  I really like it and have had no problems.  The books loaded on the sd card show up in the library just like books you've downloaded from B&N.  This in not the case with the Nook Tablet/Color.  The books are loaded into a different file section.  I hope this helps!

My first reader was a Sony, too.  I now have a Nook.  My husband still uses that first Sony.  I chose the Nook because of the 32gb sd card and because my Sony books are in epub.  I now use Cailbre as my "library".  It is very easy to use with the Nook.

I used my Ipad to read before I bought my Kindle Fire and I've been using the KF to read ever since. I love to read on both but my Ipad is a big distraction because I have many games on it and I get notifications so I take a lot of games break while reading on the Ipad. The KF is obviously lighter and easier to carry around compared to the Ipad so now I read on the KF.

I use my IPad and IPhone to read. Alternating between the Kindle and IBooks apps. Because of that, I don't have the need to buy a Kindle or a Nook although I did consider purchasing them a while ago.

Yes, you can convert the books you have purchased for your Sony Reader to epub with Calibre.  But you will have to remove the DRM code from the books first using DRM removal software, which you can easily find on the net.

I was given a Nook (3G) by my husband about a year and a half ago. I absolutely love it. Only complaint is having to use a light for night reading. This is the device I use for all my epubs.

Then my husband got me a Nookcolor, which I also love. I use this device for books purchased directly from Barnes and Noble. My complaint about this device is reading outside in bright light.

For the first time ever I now read two books at one time. One on each device. The great thing about this is I always have a device charged and ready to go.

I've been toying with the idea of buying the new Nook Simple Touch. And yes... I admit to having a serious problem. :)

I just wanted to let you know that My husband first bought me the Nook 3g also and the bought me more Nookie when he gave me the Nook Color. I read my color at the beach all the time and the trick is to change the background to black or gray. It works like charm. Also by changing the background color to black and turning the brightness way down it does not bother my husband when I bring more nookie to bed (lol) and my hubby is sleeping. Just an FYI, when I commented I did not even notice the date of your comment so for all I know is you figured it out already. I love my Nook Color and read about a book a day also.
